Gor Mahia extended their unbeaten record in Kenyan Premier League despite being restricted to a barren draw by Western Stima in a match played at Kisumu Stadium on Sunday.

It was the fourth draw for Gor Mahia and it slowed them down from hitting the 30 point mark but they will still be glad to remain at the top of the standings. From the start, it was a relatively balanced affair with both teams giving as much as they received.

But as the minutes rolled on, Stima upped their efforts but there was still no clear cut chance to talk about. Stima could only boast of a 30th minute free-kick awarded after Ali Abondo fouled Ronald Okoth inside his box.

For the KPL champions, their best chance of the game came at the stroke of half time when Abondo picked out George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo and the latter set up Meddie Kagere but the last shot was not keen enough to count going above the post.

Going into the second half, Gor Mahia with the backing of home fans, showed some flashes of aggression and they could easily have got a goal. Abondo and Kagere kept the Stima backline quite engaged and they were able to get the third of their opponents half often.

But the best Gor Mahia could create from their efforts were corner kicks with Ali Abondo allowed to take most of them. By the 50th minute, the KPL champions had forced three corners which however, all ended fruitless though it still helped to bring out their opponents.

Kagere was to come close in the 75th minute attempting with a shot that Gabriel Andika in Stima goal dealt with well. Two minutes after that, Gor Mahia’s pressure allowed Ronald Omino to make another attempt at the Stima goal and the hosts attempted a feeble fight back with Ronald Okoth wasting to do something better.

Gor Mahia captain Musa Mohammed was cautioned for foul play. After this, George Odhiambo wasted a free-kick from close range and in the end K’Ogalo had to be content with a single point.

Starting XI :Bonface Oluoch  – Musa Mohammed – Karim Nizigiyimana – Abouba Sibomana – Harun Shakava – Ali Abondo – Meddie Kagere – Timothy Otieno – George Odhiambo – Khalid Aucho – Innocent Wafula

Subs: Jerim Onyango – Ronald Otieno – Bernard Odhiambo – Simon Pierre – Eric Ochieng – Ernest Wendo – Kevin Oluoch

    • Jamaneni sio vibaya kungojea shemeji.

We sacrificed Olunga for a lost cause and maybe dropped 2 points due to his absence.
Anyway CECAFA will be held in July so TB should work on the dept of the team but so far so good
Aluta continua, hope payment of salaries & allowance are upto to date so no “go slow” this this.

congrats to the boys…It was a very difficult game.
i thought this may have been the chance for BlackBerry and Timothy Otieno to shine in Olungas absence but they disappointed me!!

It’s sad that we didn’t win but let’s desist trom finger-pointing. In this league there is even no guarantee that we will not lose but how fast we recover is what matters

  • Western stima could easily have won the game. Tactical blunder from the coach……Wendo should have started in midfield with aucho pushing more in attacking midfield. Similarly abondo should have played behind kagere with both blackberry and simiyu starting from the bench. A 4-2-2-1-1 is something we should try when we don’t have our best players

Congrats are also in order for the junior team for qualifying for the next round of the Nairobi Champions Cup. Looks like our fates are tied. When the Senior team wins the youth also win. They both drew this time but the youth team proceeded courtesy of penalty shootouts

Ooh Laa la……..!! ” I HAVE ALL REASONS TO BE VERY OPTIMISTIC”….!!.
That was a perfect double “AWAY RECORD” bagging 4 points out of 6.

11 games played with 27 points out of an ideal 33 point equals to 82% success rate. With the remaining 4 matches against THIKA,TUSKER,TOP FRY and MUHORONI there is a maximum of 12 points to fight for and supposedly if Gor Mahia can manage another 83% collection which translate to 10 points then we shall close the the half-season at 37 points.

We play 4 more matches for the second half and get another 82% before KAGAME CUP; then Gor will have opened a 12 points gap with 47 points and no team will have recovered the Top spot BEFORE the expiry of two weeks tournament.

As we approach the league halfway let’s start also thinking about CECAFA from the 11th of July to 2nd August. We might need to strengthen our mid as well as have options in the striking department. The game at Kisumu exposed us with the reliance of Kagere and Olunga. The other players did not have what it takes provide that punch upfront though we must continue encouraging them

Agreed 100% with@ Dan Original, as much as they are below our high expectation we just need to encourage them. But if luck was on our side i believe MEDDIE KAGERE had close to three open chances but he just failed to use his killer punch. Anyway that is now “water under the bridge”; TUGANGE YA JAYO: The JUICE of all 4 pending fixtures is that we are going to play all our remaining matches on SUNDAY’S starting with TOP/FRY – CITY, then MUHO-KISUMU and then THIKA -Thika. ( We bag this 9 points and then wait for TUSKER politely. @83% performance we might close with Between 37 and 38 points. THIS IS VERY MUCH POSSIBLE.

OR WE WIN ALL AND CLOSE WITH 39 POINTS. ITS POSSIBLE..!!!!

        • if we close with 39 point, we only have to win 6 game ie 18 point and 4 draws to get to 61 points……….eeeeeehhhhhh

  • @Admin, it was the third draw not fourth. Get your facts rights.

That was good performance and congratulations to teaM Kogalo:
Stima 1point and millions, Gor 1point.
Mkate deal, how is it progressing? Updates please. Having played two matches away we can’t talk about any gate collections. Brethren we had better be talking about how to keep the playing unit intact though with one or two additions in midfield and striking.
