Gor Mahia host Sofapaka
Having won five straight matches without conceding a goal, Gor Mahia will continue their 2016 Kenya Premier League campaign when they take on Sofapaka at Moi Stadium Kisumu on Wednesday. Its an opportunity for Gor Mahia to continue their ascent up the league table. In the last five matches, Gor Mahia have risen from 12th place to 2nd place. They are now only 2 points behind league leaders Tusker.
Gor Mahia have now settled after the turmoil of the early season when Frank Nuttall and the club’s executive committee were embroiled in a fight over Nuttall’s contract. Rwanda striker Jacque Tuyisenge has proven to be a reliable goal-scorer and will be relied upon once again. He is currently 3rd in the goal-scoring chart with 6 goals. George Odhiambo “Blackberry, Geoffrey Walusimbi, Khalid Aucho, Karim Nizigiyimana, Innocent and Eric Ouma have all been in sensational form. Ouma for his part has credited the support he has received from senior players for the success he has had.
“The senior players have been motivating me to keep moving and work harder. Without them and their motivation I would not have made this step” he said to futaa.com
But also keep in mind that Marcelo is learning from Ze Maria who in his heyday was one of the best wing-backs in the world. Ouma who has been the subject of transfer rumours should keep that in mind if he considers joining a rival team. He may not have similar success under a different coach and different system.
Aside from individial brilliance, what has also carried Kogalo is the fighting spririt of the players.
“We were playing a good side, and I expected a tough match. I think what won this match for us is the fighting spirit of my team. You could see that they were hungry for a win. We deserved to win,” said coach Marcelo Ferreira after the Mathare match. That fighting spirit was also evident when Gor Mahia fought gamely to grab a late winner against Western Stima last weekend.
They will need to carry that same spirit against Sofapaka who though a pale shadow of their 2015 edition, still pose a danger. Heritier Luvalu and Barnabas Tiema are two players that Kogalo will need to pay particular attention to.

@Jakoyo at times i fail to understand if you do mean good for K’Ogalo. why are you comfortable with a draw, yet you indicated that we need 34 points to clinch the 16 title in 2016.
We need the 3 points as the home team. Otherwise we will not be off the hook since ULINZI, MATHARE, RANGERS & TUSKER are equally contenders. More Points ,goals and clean sheet needed to separate us from the chasing pack.

To our shemejis, please show some sense of commitment and beat Tusker by a solitary goal tomorrow. Such an act of generosity will elevate kogallo towards the title so you will have a reason to fight next half of the season. A 5-0 thrashing of sofapanya will be bearable.

@ Ogango Trailer, Lets us not disrepect Sofapaka by this 5-0 , 3-0 or some cricket like scoreline i hear poeple talking about, that attitude is not the best way to approach a match. Tusker just scored one goal against sofapaka with the same attitude.
Sofapaka is a very good side and caution will have to be exercised otherwise I see a draw ! thats what i mean……
Am sure Gor knows better than to underrate Sofa.This is soccer,anything can happen.However,having gone on a good run of results,we are confident of notching up the 3 points!!
The article on the events since the season started is a fair summary. I think the fighting spirit is the evident of a team that works together. At the beginning of the seasons some fans even panicked, which could have easily dampened the spirit of the players especially when they do not get encouraging words. In disguise one can however say it was a blessing. For the fact that it happened at the beginning rather than latter. Look at what is happening with efusi. It is not a very good position to be in.We are thankful that we are now pulling together. The best way to reward the efforts that are being made by everyone connected with the team, is to be there at all times and wherever else they go. I concur that Kisumu must encourage each other to attend the match in big numbers and as expected they will enjoy the display on the pitch
Surely, hii ya Jakoyo is not about being modest. This is one of the most rediculous pronouncements/ predictions!! How does a team fighting for the championship lower their taget to the point of expecting a draw against the last placed team in the league!!! Sofapaka has lost to almost every team they have played against this year so how do they expect to draw against an inform defending champions!! Pole Jakoyo, but this time you have missed the point. All the teams that have either drawn or beaten Gor Mahia this season will all struggle against them in their current form. Gor Mahia has all the ingredients of a domineering defending champions. A very good goalkeeper, very hard to beat, strong and dominating centre backs, the best full backs in the league, a midfield flowing with all manner of talents and lastly a reliable goal getter. As currently constituted, we only need to compliment our lead striker’s efforts by bringing in a player capable of scoring at least once in every 2 games (a 10-15) goals per season. We must appreciate the fact that we have a master tactician who is inclined to improving every player in Gor Mahia hence avoiding players burn-out. This is exemplified by his use of the whole squad. We only need to weed out non performers and we are good to go. As Good as they may be, the following players should be released for their own good:- Sammy Okinda, Keli, Edmund Murai, James Ogada Ouma. Incoming should be Duncan Otieno and Ian Otieno (Posta Rangers) Byron Oketch (Western Stima). My opinion please.
Le Pastre,how does one insinuate that Sofapaka is a good side?What depicts a good side or rather an “improving side” with every match as alleged by jakoyo,is it by losing 11 consecutive matches the way Sofapaka has done while having also the worst defensive record?C’mon believe,we are a class above the rest and intend to pick 3 points and top the table in the first leg God willing.Debates abt sofapaka being good are ludacris,forgive me jakoyo I never intend to talk to you directly based on your comments but @ times they irk me,still am ever civil.We are going for a win & the mood in camp is electric…
