Gor Mahia humble Shabana

Goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda missed an 86th minute penalty as Gor Mahia FC cruised into the 2013 GOtv Shield round of 16 with a 6-0 thrashing of Shabana FC at the Nyayo Stadium.

K’ogalo were the favourites in the match and dominated possessions despite Shabana FC’s earlier attempts to contain their strikers.

The first goal of the match was netted on the 34th minute by Kevin Omondi, who teamed up well with Danny Sserunkuma.

Opponents

Shabana had a real chance of scoring on the 36th minute when Joash Ogega received a good ball in the Gor box. He connected with it using his head but sent it out.

Four minutes later, Sserunkuma received a good cross on the left flank. He shot hard and the ball, slipping through the hands of Shabana Keeper Stephen Mokandu, went to rest in goal.

The second half was even better for Gor Mahia as they managed to pull down their opponents defense plans ans ran rings around them for the better part of it.

Heavily marked

Sserunkuma was however not a free man this time as he was under heavy surveillance from the Shabana defenders leading to his substitution in the 60th minute.

He [Sserunkuma] was however not replaced without clinching his brace in the match which he did in the 59th minute after being set up by unselfish Paul Odhiambo who could have gone for goal himself.

The goal came three minutes after Shabana defender Christopher Machuka had given away a penalty after handling the ball in the box which was converted by Kevin Omondi.

Things fell apart for Shabana

Ex-Tena United striker Angelo Okumu then opened his account at Gor Mahia with a well powered left footer hat goalkeeper Stephen Mokandu on the Shabana goal could not contain for the fifth.

Harambee Stars defender David Owino had his flick saved in the 75th minute before Mungai Kiongera’s curled in shot from the edge of the area rattled the woodwork before heading out for a goalkick in the 85th minute.

Gor Mahia has an opportunity to make it six through a panalty but goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda sent his shot way off the mark to the amusement of the fans and colleagues.

Lavatsa however made up for the missed chance after a defensive lapse that saw Shabana defenders fail to clear a loose ball which the Stars forward pounced on and scored for the sixth and final goal in the third minute of added time

The winner of the will face Thika United in the pre-quarters which will be played in the weekend of weekend of 21 and 22 September.

  • Shabana fc match was like a preliminary match to K’ogalo and the real test is a head and if we r to defend the title we must be ruthless with any team that comes our way regardless of their strength. All teams in the kpl r out to out do K’ogalo and any team meeting Gor will play like a final. so I wud urge our players to always play to win against any team.Next is tusker and we must beat them to lock them out of contention and wait for thika utd.Long live Bob williamson, David Owino, & Long live Gor ,

Well done K’galo that’s how 2 deal with “small” teams.

    P.S
    1. Structured & more organized membership (With a monthly contribution of btween shs 50-100) is most crucial if GM is move to the next level. Instant membership of 100bob during elections is very counterproductive.
    2. Some of the current EC should challenged on why they’ve fallen short on their pledges.
    3. Come next elections avoid unknowns & give legends a chance in a lean office with an effective & efficient secretariat i.e CEO,FIN MGR

  • what I keep wondering is that this guy have been campaigning for these so called legends but they have not even come out to declere their interest in vying for elective positions in Gor.plis let us concentrate on the matches that r ahead of us instead of bringing unnecesary campaigns.Long live k’ogalo.
