Additional reporting from the Nation

A last-minute strike by Samuel Onyango handed Gor Mahia a convincing 3-2 win over Zoo FC in a Kenyan Premier League match at Kericho Green Stadium on Sunday.

Following the result, Gor Mahia remain top with 48 points while Kakamega Homeboyz climb to second with 44 points after thrashing Chemelil 6-0 at Bukhungu Stadium.

Zoo had the upper hand to cause an upset but poor defending cost them. The hosts, who dominated majority of the first half, opened the scoring through Kepha Ondati’s low shot after he caught Gor defenders napping.

Zoo forwards Collins Neto and Bernard Odhiambo were a constant threat to Gor’s defence in the first half.

K’Ogalo missed a chance to restore parity in the 31st minute when Geoffrey Ochieng’s shot wide after Clifton Miheso picked him out with a delivery from a freekick.

But Elvis Ronack made no mistake in the 54th minute to level the scores. However, the hosts regained their lead through Mathew Odongo who capped a brilliant solo run with a goal in the 67th minute.

Nicholas Kipkirui punished his former employers in the 77th minute after converting from close range following a goal-mouth melee.

Gor continued to pile pressure and it’s Onyango who found the winner at the stroke of full time with a powerful shot.

Elsewhere at Bukhungu Stadium, title contenders Kakamega Homeboyz humiliated Chemelil Sugar 6-0 in a lopsided match.

The victors scored their goals via Chris Masinza who netted a brace, Benjamin Oketch, Shami Kibwana, Ronald Omino and Peter Thiong’o.

Efforts by Chemelili forwards Frank Doso, Richard Oti and Paul Odanga to secure an early lead were thwarted by a strong backline led by Kennedy Onyango.

Homeboyz, however, stunned their opponents in the 10th minute when Masinza scored the first goal after connecting to David Okoth’s cross from the left.

Chemelil resorted to long balls after they were unable to penetrate Homeboyz’s defence.

Oketch doubled Homeboyz lead with a rasping drive from the edge of the box which flew past custodian Daniel Kiptoo in the 37th minute.

At the stroke of half time, Homeboyz roving attacker Masinza netted the third after he was put through by Oketch.

In the 55th minute, Omino fastened on a loose ball in the box to score the fifth for the hosts before Thiong’o sealed the big win with a goal of his own.

  • The players are in their low season. Escaping against Zoo Kericho? Meanwhile, Ingwe beat Sofapaka, a clear testimony that our players are in their low season.

We almost lost to ZOO of all the teams. The problem is the technical bench and not the strikers or playing unit for that matter

  • Going by how hard times have been at K’galo , even just honouring matches is a cause for appreciation , winning amidst all this is a cause to be appreciated and celebrated and not to dragged through childish remarks perpetrated by something called Gor Player , Kudos to all those unappreciated people in the background who continues to make this happen .
Two days ago , I arrived from wherever I disappeared to only to be confronted by an article in the daily nation that a noble initiative moreso in the prevailing circumstances I.e GMAF was being wrestled by a group led by one uncouth , unhinged , echesa-istic semi illiterate organising secretary of Gor Mahia , firing all kinds of Incoherent and unsubstantiated innuendoes at the Initiators of an initiative that as an organising secretary should have been expected to Innovate , but having failed to do so , was expected to promote and support .
Pray tell , what does GMAF got to do with the failures of Gor sacco , lotto , bread , inability to stop theft of matchday revenues , a bloated rudderless and directionless office .
For those here who are always quick to defend Nyangi’s populistic outburst and who cheer her along , this unsubstantiated outburst against your noble group is a wake up call , the only person coming to your aid on this noble initiative is the one who on most occasions is the target of our fire and mostly based to an extent on is normally termed as “Nyangi’s transparency and accountabilty .
The office we have , the one WE ELECTED , is 5% human and 95% hyena .
GMAF is an initiative that must be protected and the failure by whoever not to place that article on this wall for members to ventilate is a great disservice to this wall .
Ati even the branches are complaining , waah , community club indeed

That was a real fight from the team in the circumstances. One match at a time and we shall be there.
You see someone is trying all tricks to stop kogalo, now Tusker has a game in hand, how that came to be nobody knows, and even today we had to play slightly ahead of Tusker. However the God of football saw all this and gave them only one point today.

I don’t understand it when we say we blame the coach. We missed three glaring chances through Muguna, Apugo and K7, how does a coach come in here? We miss Batambuze,Wellington, Joash, Philemon,Tobias and the two westies which renders our squad very thin. Any coach will have a hard time with such a deficit. To make it worse the financial position is not improving. We should note that Sofa, Chemelil, Nzoia are teams that can perform under the circumstances Gor are in because it has been the norm. Even Bandari when they had financial issues they lost almost 8 consecutive games but since that was sorted out they are now on a winning trend.
Let’s not look for excuses yet we know our problem.is financial which we can partially resolve through the GMAF. I hope all contributors on this wall are members else we should just accept whichever results we get

@Joe Riaga, unfortunately there is nothing we as fans can do about the team’s form but we can motivate them (by encouragement and also financially) to rise to the occassion. Remember it’s a derby and even the last one we were so down but the two Westies showed up in that game.
It will be the case again this time. Owusu and Balinya will show up, Remember derby does not recognize form

    • This is so funny! Leopards are in good form from the way they clawed Sofameaow but beating Gor is another thing altogether. We will even pack the bus to share the spoils at 0-0.
