Gor Mahia in shock loss to Mathare United

Kagere tussles with Andrew Juma of Mathare United

Gor Mahia’s plans of taking over the league leadership were stifled on Sunday when they surprisingly lost to struggling Mathare United 0-1 at Thika Stadium. It was an unexpected loss since Mathare have been on the receiving end of heavy defeats.
Additional Reporting from goal.com
Former Gor Mahia youth team players Cliff Nyakeya and Derrick Onyango collectively ensured that K’Ogalo walk home bare handed. Onyango was the man with the assist and Nyakeya is the man, who placed the ball past keeper Boniface Oluoch in the 34th minute.

With the aim of securing three points in order to go ahead of Posta Rangers on the league table, Coach Ze Maria named a strong squad with Jean-Baptiste Mugiraneza and Jacques Tuyisenge being part of the arsenal.

Indeed, Mugiraneza showed intention of wanting to etch his name on the score-board in the 20th minute but Mathare United proved smarter by clearing the danger.

Karim Nizigiyimana then launched a number of attacks after Nyakeya goal but things did not work out well for him.

The fight continued in the second half-with the likes of Godfrey Walusimbi being instrumental in search of an equalizer to no avail. Even the introduction of Maloba Oliver never bore any fruits for Gor Mahia.

The Mathare United win is a big morale booster for coach Salim Ali putting into consideration that the ‘Slum Boys’ had registered a draw against Chemelil Sugar after suffering a 5-1 defeat against Ulinzi Stars under him in the absence of head coach Francis Kimanzi.

They have since revealed on their facebook page the secret behind their historic victory. Their Chairman Bob Munro had a word with them in the dressing room ahead of the match.”Gor (Mahia) are clearly confident of victory but seriously underestimate your talents and teamwork. So prove them wrong today.”

Gor Mahia : Boniface Oluoch, Karim Nizigiyimana ,Wellington Ochieng’ , Musa Mohammed, Shakava Haron, Otieno Philemon, Kahata Francis, Jean-Baptiste Mugiraneza,Walusimbi Godfrey, Tuyisenge Jacques, Meddie Kagere.

  • A loss is always good for the pocket ( sportpesa wise ) but Me thinks It could have been worse .

Did we not say that some players need to be benched more often to give others a chance…..tafakari hayo!

  • If midfielders or defenders don’t score in Gor then we lose the match coz there are no strikers. This is the reality this season. What a pity!Anyway let them fight another day(against Ingwe)
Honestly tusker will retain the league or Pamzo may as well take it.As for gor eih tusahau bwana.

  • Nothing surprises me anymore really since Gor is an average team that can beat any team on a good day and lose to any in equal fashion on a bad day as there exists no outstanding difference in class or technical capability btn our beloved and other Kpl Teams. Being as it is all we can do is Thank God whenever we win and Accept and Move On when we lose like today. A team with no striking force will always struggle my friends

  • Mathare scored one goal. For Gor to win the match, they ought to have scored two goals.
That never happened. With today’s fielding of tried-and-failed nondescripts (more so the 4m problem), the writing was on the wall that a loss was achievable.
We lack strikers. Period! This has been proven beyond doubt.

  • since the games are not on TV; I’ll say this was a sportpesa win against the most followed team. Tupatieni analysis.

I love Kogallo so much, but my brain tells the heart to start flirting with Posta…. I just don’t seen to understand Gor. The heartache next week might be the breaking point.

  • I would advise Jausenge to avoid social media. I think the guy is nervous. Why are we not crusifying other players.

  • That Gor lost shouldn’t make us lose our focus. It was just a bad day in the office. I wish the team well in their next match against Efusi. Good luck team.

  • Derrick Onyango who gave the assist to Cliff Nyakeya who tucked it home for Mathare to beat Kogalo 1-0 on sunday are both former gor under 19 players whom we loaned out citing lack of space at the senior level. How funny then that they best our hugely and expensively assembled foreign strike force who by Age are also very experienced at both club and national team levels?Kweli mpira Hudunda majamaa….Oduor12 in kanye omera…mia pachii

Man the same script we had last season is replaying, for every opportunity we have to over take the leading team , we squander it. loose or draw. Mako dhogi nono…then we loan players out who excel in those teams except in Gor- Philemon Otieno was phenomenal at Posta last season. Thoooooo. Can Re-Union resurrect? I may have viable option yawa.

Only, then can I know whether its Ze Maria, lack of value for money or bad luck.
Could even be that winning bonuses not paid issue.
AWOL OSIEPNA, someone said you have to grease palms to be a GMFC player.
We’ve seen the likes Odulas and Kelli’s earn salaries until they had to be released. These guys came to GM with injuries even where they gone they still bench warm. Now here comes our rejected ex-youth players to finish us.
Kwani huyo Ze Maria and TB cannot see such talent.
You and La Pastre are the technical experts but mimi huyo Ze Maria can’t deliver, EC does not want CAF because it will eat into the money for their stomachs.
WHEN GMFC STARTS FOCUSING ON FOOTBALL AND NOT BEING A CASH COW, MARA GM LOTTO, GM SACCO, GM WATER THEN DECEMBER 5TH 1987 WILL BE REPEATED. BUT TAKE HEART ALL WILL COME TO PASS.

  • I attributed last season’s failure to missing Tok Komwanda. Those that didn’t believe better start believing. Our team is most of the time average like all the others . It’s the fans that would push the boys to play and especially at Tok Komwanda.

Last season we dropped points we would previously have picked and it will be the same this season. Who has followed Loga’s career since he left Gor? He is unable to deliver anywhere else because our fans were his player no. 12 and he can’t seem to get that much needed push elsewhere.

Otherwise i still believe the team can grind out results and go for the title.

Let’s all for a moment stop attacking Jausenge and see what happens, may be we are too much on him and eroding his self confidence. I can’t believe that he is such a bad striker, the TB could have seen that and his country as well.

As longs as good players with experience are not respected in this team, it is bound to fall. Where is okoth? Why Wafula started from the bench? Why the 4000000 man started with Kagere? The two can’t coordinate well unless one is on the wing and not as strikers at the same time
