Gor Mahia invited to Mapinduzi cup

The organizers of the Mapinduzi cup, which is held every January in Zanzibar. Kassim Haji who is the secretary general of the Zanzibar Football Association has confirmed that Gor Mahia have been invited along with Tanzanian giants Azam, Yanga and Simba, as well as URA of Uganda who are the defending champions.

“Tunaendelea kuzialika timu nyingine ili kunogesha michuano hii lakini kwa timu za nje tumezitumia mialiko Gor Mahia na URA,” said Haji to Mwanaspoti, a Tanzanian sports magazine.

The Mapinduzi cup is geared towards providing entertainment to the people of the Island of Zanzibar who rarely get to watch top class competition while affording the teams an opportunity to prepare for the season. The tournament is named after the The Zanzibar Revolution (Mapinduzi Ya Zanzibar), which occurred in 1964 and led to the overthrow of the Sultan of Zanzibar and his mainly Arab government by local African revolutionaries.
Gor Mahia have been invited before but declined the opportunity. Tanzanians and Zanzibaris have a tremendous amount of respect for Gor Mahia and are keenly aware of the intense battles that Gor Mahia has waged against the Tanzanian giants since the 1970s.  If Gor Mahia miss out on continental football in 2017, the Mapinduzi cup will be their only international showcase.

@dawaplus, dont sweat too much, we have complained so much but seems the coach still has so many people behind him even on this blog, the complaining wont help. You will have the last laugh sooner than later when his record becomes indefensible and his only option will be to leave honourably. I promised myself to stop complaining about him and wait for the shit to hit the fan…..it may do you tons of good to do the same!!!

Hey Jb,wouldn’t it be fairer to criticize Ze Maria’s failings from a coaching perspective. Whether he’s Indian, Greek or from Mars really isn’t the issue. This Mapunduzi Cup will be ideal to test (not the loaves, butterflies or cement teams) the 2017 targets (AND GEL) especially after assessing the current squad against the regional clubs in December Kagame Cup. But elections fiasco may derail this, infact AR may push elections to 2017 so as “not to interfere with the clubs CECAFA preps”. My view is elections be held in mid Nov16 so that new EC can use CECAFA & Mapinduzi to plan for 2017 season. AGAIN PLEASE GOR MAHIA FRATERNITY LOBBY FOR A VERY STRONG WRITTEN YEARLY PERFORMANCE CLAUSE TO BE ENSHRINED IN THE AMENDED CONSTITUTION FOR ALL ELECTED EC. FOOTBALL IS ABOUT WINNING TROPHIES. EC MUST ENSURE THAT EVERY YEAR GMFC 1) QUALIFIES FOR A CAF TOURNAMENT 2) REACHES AT LEAST THE SEMIS OF EVERY CECAFA TOURNAMENT WE PARTICIPATE IN 3) REACHES THE 3RD ROUND/GROUR STAGES OF EVERY CAF TOURNEY WE TAKE PART IN

This is good idea but I think it should be captured in the annual performance contract. However, resources that include players, funds, logistics etc will be required for such proposal to become reality.

We have a match against Western Stina tomorrow. Guys do not raise your hopes lest you are treated to the usual disappointment after 95 minutes.

@BB methinks stima game was pushed to the 19th Oct after our Top 8 final on the 16th against Muhoroni. Note last weekend was free for both GMFC & Muho. brewkenge play tomorrow 12th. Don’t know why EC can’t insist we play our matches at the same time since playing after them isn’t “working” for us.
