Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana tells Goal they have opened negotiations with KCB to sign striker Paul Kiongera on a permanent deal
Gor Mahia are keen to give top striker Paul Kiongera a long term contract at the club when his one year loan deal expires at the end of the year.
In this regard, the 2013 Kenya Premier League champions have started talks with KCB inorder to keep the striker though nothing has been agreed on so far.
Kiongera was loaned to Gor Mahia at the beginning of this season on an initial one year contract. He has so far scored four goals for Gor Mahia and is one of the key players, who have helped the club to win the title.
Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana has told Goal that they are doing everything possible to keep the striker.
“He (Kiongera) has been instrumental in our campaign this season and we are currently talking with KCB to keep him for a longer period of time. So far nothing has been agreed on but we hope to finalise with the bankers soon.”
Kiongera will not be eligible to play against his former club when they meet Gor Mahia on Sunday. “The terms of our contract with KCB is that he cannot play against them and that will not happen when we meet on Sunday.”

i am for his release. nothing personal but tell as it is. this guy is overrated as a striker. as much as i was against kevin when he confronted kiongera i can understand why. the guy simply thinks thats it’s his right to be given the ball. what he has done with after receiving good passes is why i condemn him. he does not have the intgelligence that wanyonyi has displayed infront of goal. the guy has no speed either and his passing accuracy is below average. wanyonyi has missed goals infront of goal but he has more than made for it buy giving very good assists. for africa champioships gor needs someone sharp infront of goal. with a record of for goals in the league if find it amusing that this guy can be a pro. and when u call a player ‘top striker’ what do you exactly mean?
He has football skills rarely seen in Kenya,he just need some football brain,then he will b a bang.he is much usefull in the wings where he gives quality crosses.Footballers matures with age and experince
Dispite his short comimgs in the field, Kiongera is stil one of the best strikers and i think it will be a big blow to loose him. He needs time to get his form. The EC should be serious with the new signings. I support the idea of fishing James Situma but be serious otherwise our great rivals will net him.
isaac i agree with you as for this guy dinga i think he should learn to think as he writes footballers are groomed it takes time and patience to make stars.
Kiongera is for me a good striker….harrasses and commits defenders into making mistakes,has a good shot and an eye for goal inspite of the fact that he has not scored many.
However,he needs to put his head down and concentrate on rectifying his weaknesses.Tie him down to a long term contract please!!
With him on the side chances will be created and goals scored.Big club factor seems to have affected him but the boy has found his feet and the only way for him now is up.Lets keep him!!
Those who critisize Kiongera shud know that playing 4 Gor is not like playing 4 other teams. when a player is playing 4 Gor there is a lot of pressure than playing 4 small teams like kcb & thika.U can sign a good player from Kcb or thika but he cannot replicate his perfomance in Gor.So i believe that if Kiongera if given a long term in Gor, he will mature and perform better in Gor than he did in KCB. So give kiongera time he is young and is learning to play for fans unlike when he was at kcb.
Remember Mbiru, the Rwandese striker & many other needless speculations. When Bwana & Faiz start yapping then they r more likely seeking attention/ cutting deals. Let’s wait 4 the TB 2 decide who 2 retain,who release & who 2 sign. With CECAFA/CAF beckoning am sure BW will set high standards & won’t b surprised if a many as 6 midfielders/forwards r realeased. So Bwana & EC don’t try to schew the TB’s decision maaking. Y single out Kiongera when we’ve more “important” concerns e.g “Flava”, Oboya.
TESTING WATERS OF MOI AND KANU ERA. I BELIEVE KIONGERA WILL GROW UP NEXT SEASON AND SUPRICE MANY. HE IS A QUALLITY PLAYER.
This is a good player who must be retained at any cost. There is a lot of potential in him and if properly natured, might blossom into one of the best strikers in the country.

I think that any player on loan and shows signs like Kiongera would draw attention. Without prejudice, I feel and hope that the talks would be fruitful. I agree with @Michael Odhiambo Ogolo that playing for Gor is never easy as search there are days that a player would have a bad day.And considering Kiongera’s age, it can easily be compounded. My personal thought however is that it Kiongera be kept if it is also his wish and desire.
I think Bwana is campaigning, I think it is the duity of the technical bench choose players. I think Kiongera had the most playing time than our strikers. a deadly striker is judged with our many goals even assists,movements. Kiongera should go back KCB and we look for serious striker who is ready to play as ateam.
Personally I know Kiongera has the potential to be great. Even Torres was once being villified for not doing what he needs to do and so was Drogba. Locally even Danny had at some time lost it but is now back on form. What we need to do is to encourage all our players and I believe we still need Kiongera more than ever if we are to compete regionally and in the continent. Situma would also be a good buy since we equally need mature, tested and experienced players. I know Ingwe will go for him and maybe get him since Gor has openly stated their desire to have him. We also need a player of Eugene Asike’s status to help behind. We ‘overplayed’ Mosoti this year. Eugene’s height, Mosoti’s industriounes and Emuge’s build would really help us behind there. For the midfield players like Mangoli would really help us. Why did we release Yusuf Juma? Am yet to understand. Kahata and Kingatua are also players we could be looking at to assist. Can we get Mieno back from Azam? How about Eric Okoth from Bandari and Keli from KCB. Any other suggestions
This is to Mr Dinga @2: I dont know what you are looking for, but this is one of the best strikers around presently, he had better be inside Kogalo rather than outside. In international matches I would bet my last penny that he would be the top guy, skillful,very fast on the ball and with sharp eye for goal. If he stops his childish tantrums and I believe he has seen sense lately, he would be a deadly striker. So, EC, Bobby W and Bobby O,please kip this guy.I believe in Bobby W to mould something very good out of him very soon.
@ Dan Orig. In my view Dan”Flava” Sserunkuma has never “lost it” bt was mysteriously not fielded 4 long by Loga . My speculation is it had something 2 do with his transfer request/saga. Were it not 4 that am double sure he’d be top scorer in the league.
This lad put all that behind him,won over B.W & delivered goals when they were needed most is something special in a special team.

Guys, Kiongera is a great player to have in Gor Mahia permanently. The lad just dropped in form. He lost some confidence which I know the coach can work on to inspire him to a greater striker.
Kiongera could be the best striker in the country. He has the talent, height, body and skills to excel in Gor Mahia regalia. He will be a big hit next season.
more if given a chance. The lad is also young and will learn from Bobby Williamson.
If Kiongera is on form, none of the current players can be compared to him apart from Dan Sserunkuma. Let us give him a chance and opportunity.

I remember the goal Kiongera scored against Sofapaka in our first league match. What a goal?
I do not encourage signing established players. Many a times, they have failed to fit in Gor. TB should go for the unsung heroes, known to nobody. Who knew Jerim, David Owino, Musa Mohamed, Eric Ochieng, etc before they joined Gor? Such players have from time immemorial performed better than the big names. Instead of chasing Situma, I would go for Omino of Chemelil.

Some of the best players were have seen came in as established players: Sserununkuma, Oboya, Kiongera, Mosoti, Emuge, Dube, mapunda, ………………And all have been very useful. A big club has to go after established players. You cant compete in Africa by relying on unknown players. We tried that in 2008 and were humiliated by Rwanda APR
With regard to this article, I salute George Bwana for keeping the fans up to date on issues pertaining to the club. He has to do that because if he does not, some here will accuse him of being inactive.
I support, and i hope the technical bench are the owners of this decision, Bwana is only communicating.
We should try and keep our key players. A winning team should only be strengthened but not overhauled.
Tusker did overhaul their team last season NA HABARI WAKAIPATA.
We have a very able bench, and the only thing they need is support.
I think that with big assignments coming,the Technical bench has already started working. Thanks that we have Bob Williamson and Bob around.Am sure they have been hawk-eyed even as the league progressed on. Though this is not to say that they do not pay attention to others advise or contribution.

Several Kenya Member of Parliament (MP’s) have proposed the transformation of Gor Mahia Club to be a company in order to raise funds and sustain itself.
The Legislator’s who included Homabay county senator Otieno Kajwang, Migori legislator Junet Mohamed, and his Embakasi East counterpart John Ogutu said if the club becomes a company,it will be run professionally and make the team realise its dreams of being among the best in the continent.
“Many successful clubs in the world are being managed as companies and that is what we want Gor Mahia to pick from and conform to the latest tradition.”Observed Ugunja legislator James Wandayi.
The legislators made the remarks on Wednesday morning after visiting Gor Mahia at the clubs secretariat based at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium.
In attendance was former Kenya prime Minister Raila Odinga who lauded Gor Mahia for winning the Kenya Premier League (KPL).
He said winning the League was not a mean achievement as the players showed massive commitment and hard work to achieve their current status..
He said he was delighted to see Gor Mahia and their rivals AFC Leopards finishing top and promised to reward the latter if they finish second in the League. Odinga gave Gor Mahia players a personal donation of Kshs.1million(US $ 11,627).
Other donations came from Embakasi East legislator John Ogutu Kshs.100,000,Unguja MP James Wandayi Kshs.50,000,Migori’s Junet Mohammedshs.20,000 among others.
The function that was graced by the entire playing unit was also witnessed by the entire playing unit led by Goalkeeper cum captain Jerim Onyango,AFC Leopards secretary General George Aladwa, and businessman Fidel Odinga.
Gor mahia as a team has a culture of which brand of football they exhibit, thus being a league top scorer doesnt qualify one to join the team. Can the player fit well in our pattern of play, when he join what will be his designated role and what does it add to the team? I hate the felixihno, samba boy and others saga. We need a player whom can be moulded
@Akuot post 25, I dont understant you, anyway about gor being transformed into a company for self sustainability, i think this is in order and modalities should be worked out to achieve this idea. It should have been done like yesterday.
I am also against signing the so called established players. I see guys have just forgotten how many of such we’ve signed and sacked, some within six months in the last three seasons. Some of them went back to do wonders elsewhere.
Again its of very little relevance and use to shout about these players as the tech bench should or must have the final say on who is coming in and going out. I feel the Bwana guy and his ilk truly are just campaigning.
The tech bench i heard recalled young players previously loaned elsewhere to develop them at GM and i think that is the way to go. Its not a must we win cecafa and other caf competitions next year.
Looking at the big win in 1987 GM was always on the radder in Africa in the years 84..85..86.and so 1987. Signing old established players will just continue the roller coaster of hire and fire that has become GM of late.
But anyway its a win or loss for all.
