Gor Mahia launches anti-hooliganism campaign

In a bid to stem the tide of hooliganism which has caused the abandonment of two matches this year and has given the club bad publicity, Gor Mahia club officials in conjunction with sponsors, Tuzo, have started a campaign to combat hooliganism.

The club has also appealed to the Police to assist by arresting known hooligans. According to Chairman Ambrose Rachier, the club has identified 25 hooligans who caused abandonment of the opening day match against Rangers.

Says Rachier, “As a club, we are limited in the ways with which we can deal with unruly fans. Other than identifying them and banning them from our matches, there is little else we can do. We urge the law enforcement officers to help us by charging them in a court of law.”  Usually, it’s the club and ultimately the players that suffer when we get banned or fined over crowd trouble and we feel that if the transgressors are held to account individually, it will deter them because they will undertake the costs,” he added. “We are determined not to let a few criminals tarnish our name and deter us from accomplishing our goal which is to champion  the 2011 KPL. A true K’ogalo fan would never do anything to jeopardize his team and we will weed out these hooligans who pose as our fans,” added the enthusiastic chair.

The club wants to educate fans on the damage that hooliganism does to the club. G48 , a security company, will train marshals on how to circumvent fan trouble before it starts. Other stakeholders such as KPL and Suipersport will also be consulted on the way forward. The chairman emphasized the need to sensitize the fans from the 123 branches across the country on the need to shun violence and accept match results as they unfold. Rachier emphasized the club’s stance against hooliganism,

Tuzo brand manager Rosemary Aloo said, “We would like to offer our continued support to Gor Mahia and stand with them on this endeavour. We believe there are many ways of venting out frustrations during matches but neither violence nor anti social behaviour is one of them. We understand this will be a process and it will take time but we have to start from somewhere to not only curb this vice but eradicate it all together.”

Rachier also affirmed their commitment in continuing in corporate social responsibility activities (CSR) as a way of giving back to the society, an activity they embarked on last year when they visited Loitoktok district hospital and engaged in other environmental cleaning activities.

In an unprecedented move, The club will also train cheer-leaders in how to get fans to rally behind the team.

  • RACHIER: GOOD BUT PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GROUND ON THIS MATTER

I also take this early opportunity to commend the officials of GM and sponsors, TUZO for the drastic steps they took to rid the club of what they termed as hooligans. This move comes at a time the club is already paying a heavy price for crowd trouble during Gor vs Rangers & Gor vs Ulinzi matches. Pay TV channel, supersport, gave Gor black out to protect what they term as ‘their crew & equipment’.

I think we should adopt a multiple prong approach on this issue. Apart from identifying the goons in our midst & handing them to the law enforcement officers, there is need for all these 100 plus branches to take responsibility of their membrrs. The fans who sit on the Russia side of nyayo national stadium must also take responsibility. The second round of matches are very crucial to us and we want to collect maximum points in order to lift the 2011 KPL trophy that has dogged us for sometime now.

Let’s get down to business ladies & gentlemen.

Forget alcohol, the amount of Bhang that is smoked in Russia is the root of the problem. It makes the smokies very irrational.

  • this is my take 1.the rangers match we were a way team incase of away matches tickets should be sold by gor mahia so that we sell tour fans whom we will send our steward s to usher if not gor mahia should disown the fans before the match and ask the home club to be responsible 2.why not make effort in camera to meet these hooligans already identified and offer them counseling services 3.event organizations are still very poor you started advance ticketing can we add a column for name and id number 4. the office to meet all those who buy tickets occasionally cos not all people handle emotions the same 5. office to blacklist these match officials who have been the cause of fans trouble 6. referees body to to educate fans on rules of the game cos some cause trouble whereas the ref was right finally gor is too big to be played with we should sell our image ,image is money with a fist burn alcohol and bang in our matches

The first step to curb hooliganism, is to bring competent refs in our matches not ignorant fools.Any way lets 4get about this hooliganism and am confident, we will never talk about it again.K.P.L should stop forcing sony to play at afraha, am sure we can beat them even if the game is played at burma or wajir.Gor has made good signings, but the problem is similarity of the names. We have 2 moses-one is lucky dube, lets call the other one rufftone, also kevin omondi(daddy),-kevin ochieng should be(mummy).Zico should loan surplus players so that their talent is not wasted e.g Owiti,&kiplagat coz i doubt if thy will get playin tym.

I have said it before. As much as we would like to curb hooliganism let’s involve the sixty(60) branches. They will be able to talk to their members thereby harvesting a true sporting culture. My only suggestion is to ask all branches to recruit let me say 5,000,000 members.and with each member contributing Kshs. 10 monthly fee, we will be able to sustain K’Ogallo with Kshs.50,000,000 monthly that sums up to Kshs. 6000,000,000 per year. This will be enough to run all the affairs at Gor Mahia.

WE WILL PURCHASE A MODERN COACH
WE WILL HELP IN GETTING PLAYERS ALLOWANCES REMITTED IN TIME
WE WILL MAKE PLANS TO OUTSHINE OTHER CLUBS BY BUILDING A MODERN & CLASSIC STADIUM
WE WILL OWN A TEAM THAT WILL BE SHOWING GREAT FOOTBALL DUE TO SATISFACTION.

Now! with this in mind, all branches will own a piece of “Mayienga” and who will want to spoil a good thing?

    ALL BRANCHES LET’S TEAM UP.

Professionalism is the best way to success, this can only be achieved through discipline. The players are already discipliened, what about the “fans”.

last season at a time like this we were the most disciplined club in the league,so its never late to achieve this, let us put 1st leg behind us and focus on what’s ahead of us.we are well placed to lift the league title as most of the second leg matches are home based and the sadest thing to happen will be to see our points being deducted because of the few so called fans.

1.7million that has been imposed is more than enough to reward the most disciplined, best uprising, most industrious, darling of the crowd, players’ favourite, best scorer and so on to the tune of 100k each.

winning, losing, drawing.whichever the case, let it be honourably.

  • Symon, I agree with you the strength of GM can only be realised further if the branches are strong. And some of the information we crave dearly to get from the central office we could be getting from our branches. To make GM a great team we have to actaulize all these plans we are talking about. I believe at this time we should not be talking about the team bus but how to purchase a piece of land to develop a stadium for the team and how to develop/acquire/invest on some commercial enterprises to make the club self sufficient. I wish someone could shed some light on what happened to the piece of land we were aloocated some years back. On hooliganism enough has been said but the first thing is to accept that we have some hooligans amidst us and messing our reputaion. Jabez, not all GM fans might not find use for steel and let’s not limit/restrict GM fans to an ethnic group. We have fans all over including some who contribute to this site. Otherwise I hope we have an incident-free second half and i have this belief that we will lift the KPL trophy come November

This is the best initiative ever, but we as individuals just tell your neighbour to keep peace during matches; let him tell his neighbour and next and next until everybody will have gotten the message.Stop drunkenness. I witnessed a very sad incident on the Russian side during the Super 8 final and the LG cup. Out of no where as young students from Kiambu Technical institute were celebrating, some people just attacked them and seriously injured a very young boy, for no reason at all! If somebody says it is bang smoking, I would agree but it is very bad indeed. What became of that boy I dont know as he was rushed off in an ambulance. Shame on the man who started it all.

  • The different branches need to be organized and have a leadership then the groups check on which branch is most notorious. Facebook branch, though still very amorphous, frequents the Russia stand. It should be upon them to stop bhang smokers from smoking their bhang in the field.

  • Ouma,Eric Orwa, you are a big dreamer.
where did your understanding of the Kenyan population go to.
for your information, Kenyan population is barely 40Million or so, where do we get your numbers from?
talk of every branch marshalling, 2000 members then work out your maths.

  • Good inititive but targeting the wrong people how to you expect holiganism to stop yet club officials are not interacting with the branches, they are eating our gate charges this what leads fans to bring holiganism

Papa micky, it’s good to dream.( Let’s dream positively on behalf of Mayienga coz no pure success can be achieved without a meaningful or an eventful dream)Though I have been away for some time but let me work the figures with your suggested 2000 members per branch.

With 60 branches. This counts to 2000×60 that is 120,000 members for K’ogallo countrywide. With each member contributing kshs. 100 per month, it means GM Branches are capable of raising Kshs. 1,200,000 per month and an annual contribution of Kshs. 14,400,000 per year.

Now papa micky, even with this kind of input, don’t you see K’ogallo branches having a say in straightening affairs in GM? Let’s have more suggestions over this please.
