Gor Mahia leave on Thursday

Kenya’s representatives in Caf Champions League Gor Mahia leave the country on Thursday for Libreville, Gabon, ahead of their return leg match against US Bitam slated for Saturday.

The team of 18 players and 10 officials will depart Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11:30 am where they will connect to Libreville from Kigali, Rwanda.

“We have finalized our travel arrangements for the return match and it is now official that the team will travel on Thursday morning. The technical bench and playing unit are upbeat for the return duel and we are hoping for good results,” vice secretary Ronald Ngala told Goal on Tuesday.

Gor Mahia travel to Gabon with a slim 1-0 lead from the first leg match played in Nairobi last weekend. Bitam Coach Omam Biyik is confident that his side will do well at home and frustrate Gor Mahia.

“We wanted to come off the first leg with a barren draw and finish the job at home. However, losing 0-1 is not that bad as I feel we can overturn the result. Coming here, we wanted to see how Gor Mahia play then plan on how we will tackle them at home.”

Biyik however, took issues with Saturday’s match referee claiming that the penalty awarded to Gor Mahia which Dan Sserunkuma converted for the lone goal, was unwarranted.

“The referee made some decisions which were questionable like the one of awarding a penalty to Gor Mahia. It does not discourage us however, because we understand that there is still a chance for us to go through.”

Biyik said his team did not have three of their key players and believes their presence in the return match will make all the difference. “We did not have a key defender, midfielder and striker but they will be available in the return match. They will certainly make a difference in the return fixture.”

Bitam players celebrated widely after the final whistle despite losing as well as signaling to Gor Mahia fans that ‘they will complete the job in Gabon.’

Branch meeting to discuss Hooliganism

courtesy of the Standard

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC have called for an all branches crisis meeting today at Nyayo National Stadium from 5:00pm to outline measures to curb hooliganism. “As a club we have received communication from the league’s governing council and we want to inform all our members of the new regulations so that they know the repercussions of unruly behaviour,” Gor’s Organising Secretary David Kilo told FeverPitch.

Gor have on many occasions been either fined orbanned by the league’s judicial body, the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC). KPL CEO Jack Oguda last Saturday released a Press statement giving IDCC powers to dock points from club’s whose fans perpetuate hooliganism. Oguda’s communiqué said that KPL Governing council “Approved the docking of points from the League standings by the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee for any club found culpable of causing an abandonment of matches due to acts of hooliganism and crowd trouble.” Maintain order Kilo said: “We want to work hand in hand with the law enforcers.
The branches will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring that their members maintain law and order in the stadium,” explained Kilo saying that the new plan will see all Gor fans sit according to branches in the stadia stands as the club seeks the hand of the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) “We are going to meet with NACADA chair John Mututho to negotiate on various formulae that will ensure that we keep all our matches free from alcohol and drunken behavior. If possible, we wouldn’t mind using the controversial Alco-blow,” added Kilo.

Thanks jakoyo, please update us on this site. As for hooliganism. Let us also involve the Police to identify the culprits. The solution lies in careful intelligence gathering and selected arrests and prosecutions rather than the mass tear gas the police are fond of.
Some of these people are criminals who thrive in chaos and hence tear gas offers a perfect opportunity for them to cause chaos.

All will be well! Despite the threats and psychological games being issued by the Gabon coach! That was his perhaps their slogan when they landed here. Let’s wait and see if they’ll beat the mighty GM 3 or 4 goals as they had stated earlier. God is with us fair and the best team will win

  • EC are the real hooligans for me i feel they have been part of it let us have order at the gate let tickets be genuine no jaraboun prints fake ones they are the ones who do and lets only ticket holders enter the stadium in advance before kick of
the kpl ruling did not touch on referees action based on their open errors the EC should petition for an open ruling on what action will be taken against errand refereeing this will let fans rest assured of action , without that we shall have fans take actions which is hooliganism
EC to involve brunches in sale of players this will pass information to fans in advance and not let them cause chaos and further they do things openly and in a transparent manner
night runners who come to matches needs prayer to let the devil leave them so that they stop ido during the day
police to ban processions to town after matches

trained stewards to man our matches inside the staduim and police to handle outside security on teargas or bullets they should not be with the police at all if not they provoke anger

Fans have to play a critical role in policing by identifying and handing over such hooligans to police. Let all fans make a resolution by helping the police and football administrators in curbing the hooliganism. Let us be our brothers and sisters keepers.

On the game against US Bitaam, let the club not succumb to mind games they are playing. Gor Mahia will carry the day with clinical finishes which was lacking in the first leg game.

We need to have more plain clothes policemen sitting in the terraces and mingling with the fans.

We all have to curb this hooliganism menace from all our fans all over the country.

Blaming EC for chaos due to fake tickets, selling of players, biased officiating etc cannot justify hooliganism. @JB please read your contribution again. Who are jarabuon and how do they contribute to our fans ‘stealing’ chairs from Nyayo and harrasing motorists? Unless we accept that we have a problem it will be very hard to ‘heal’. At least most of the bloggers understand the negative implications of hooliganism. This time AR is the chair of KPL and will be looked upon to make tough decisions who which i pity him.
I am sure we can go through the whole season , win trophies and more fans without resorting to our moments of madness. Aren’t EPL fans uman where the ref makes glaring mistakes like disallowing a goal for a ball one meter after the line? The fans know that to err is human and they have another day to fight on.
As @Mwakio puts it the ball is in our court as fans and what any sensible team will do is to provoke our fans when they are losing. This way they can turn alose into a win. So guys let’s use the white substance in our heads correctly instead of using it as a hat/cap.
All the same I have this feeling that we will move to the second round and meet Esperance for a mouth-watering grudge match

18 players & 10 officials to make the trip.
Yawa 10 officials isn’t that on the higher side. Can’t some of the officials give up their places for the players left behind. Am sure the players can learn more from observing the match & such lesson learnt by the players will benefit GM more in the upcoming matches. So much for the “gelling” time some bloggers always insist on.

In contrast what’s the benefit of such a high number of officials making the trip?
Anyway there is the saying that “the more things change the more thing remain the same”
All the best players & TB and nice holiday to the joy riders.
When will we ever put football & players first.

IN NEED OF YOUR HELP This boy is called Martin Obila. He hails from Rongo in Migori County. Yesterday, Monday at around 7.30 pm, he sauntered into Kakamega High School armed with an admission letter and a result slip showing that he had been called to the national school after scoring 387 marks in the last year’s KCPE examinations at an institution called Siala primary. He had trekked for two days from his home, since Sunday, to make it to Kakamega, a place and school he had never been to since he was born 16 years ago. He was exactly the way he appears in this photo. He covered that distance on empty stomach and in slippers. He pleaded with the school to help him get admitted because he was a destitute but had the thirst for education that would eventually see him becoming a neurosurgeon. The Principal Oliver Minishi was moved by the boy’s plight, offered him a place to sleep after having a meal. This morning, he was paraded on the school assembly where fellow students, also touched by his predicament, offered to contribute cash to help him get some shopping. They started from 0. However, Mr. Alex Wakhungu, the teacher who was sent to do that, says the less than Ksh. 10,000 that was raised was not enough. He only bought what could sustain the boy in school as they await any help from any Good Samaritan(s). Martin is in dire need of help. He covered a distance of over 100 kilometres to reach the school of his dreams. He says whoever agrees to help him with school fees will never live to regret. Please if you are touched and feel you can help, kindly reach the school on 0723 830 135 and talk to Mr. Andati. Thank you in advance and GOD bless.

  • 10 OFFICIALS? BULSHIT!

This is a typical Kenyan trip where officials will stop at nothing to milk the club dry and ran away after it collapse. How do you decide the number of officials who accompany the team ? What is there in Libraville that these officials are dying to see and do? Nothing, I dare say. What is there is the daily allowance and the usual deals being cut between by the said officials and hotel managers, transport companies ferrying the squad around.

This is one area the president AR must put his foot on the ground firmly in order to avoid wastage and ensure the little resources at the club’s disposal efficiently. I know a quiete war is now between the officials on who will make the next trip. That is why nothing good can be written about this club a quater of a century years later. And you saw it during the recent AGM. It was like a matter of life and death to some aspirants.

Before I forget, my sincere thanks to senator Gideon Mbuvi aka Sonko for his generous gesture.to our club but we should also feel ashame of ourselves for continuing to receive handouts by a club which boast of being the most successful club in East Africa. Look at his contribution yesterday.; Ksh 500000 for President Kenyatta and the rest from his own pocket. Does it ring anything to you? If no, continue to embrace handouts.

Finally let me wish my great club every best of luck in their assignment at Libraville. I also wish journey mercies as you travel back home. There is no need of us talking of past glory. We have gotten another golden opportunity to search for new glory. It is possible. I have no doubt about the depth and strength of our team, the single mindednesd of our Technical Bench and ofcourse the ominipresent God whose name these boys call at every start and end of each match, This one is not different. I bet.
