Gor Mahia lose Crown Beverages sponsorship

Gor Mahia’s secondary sponsor, Crown Beverages have pulled out. According to Chairman Ambrose Rachier, financial circumstances have forced Crown to pull the plug.

“Crown have written to us terminating the deal we signed last year because they are experiencing some financial difficulties.” said Rachier according to goal.com

The sponsorship was worth Ksh 50 million It was signed in March of 2016 and was to last from 2016 to 2019. The deal saw the Crown logo emblazoned on Gor Mahia jersey sleeves.

“We have no option but to understand their position and we appreciate and thank them for the one year we have worked with them. It is our hope they will one day come back and work with us” continued Rachier.

  • Finally, the DsTv supercup and the league are here for us to watch. This is a much anticipated relief from the chronicles of Nyangi, Rachier, Ottamax and Nick Mwendwa. We have listened to their Tv series and it had become boring.
As for the withdrawn sponsorship, we just have to thank Crown beverages for the much they offered and pray that their financial difficulties may end.
Now back to Ze Maria: If you dare lose to Brewkenge in the DsTv supercup then expect…#$*!?%¤¿€???

  • These deals all have a confidentiality clause yet GMFC constitution says that every year the club shall hold an AGM and financial reports/statements SHALL be presented at the AGM.GMFC has 982 members who voted and 3k registered. The only way such a clause can be upheld is by refusing to present accounts, a trademark of Mugabe admin. Anyway income for GMFC in 2016- SP sponsorship kes.65M, Crown sponsorship kes.16M, gate collections even@kes.6 00k per match is kes 9 counting only the 15 league matches. Not counting the league grant the least GMFC earned in 2016 is kes.90m.Yet EC could not pay office and training field rent.We are in year 2 of SP sponsorship and the club still has “Mugabe’s mysterious HUGE DEBTS”.Contrary I hear Crown left coz they were not getting value for money for their sponsorship.EC did not even have an year end award for GMFC players sponsored by the Crown money.Like with Tuzo AR waited till Crown pulled the plug to react.Different forest same monkey!

  • Inflation hitting 9 plus percentages, hard economic times, high cost of living, the withdrawal is not too surprising. We thank them, it was nice while it lasted now we part in joy like we had met and good luck in your future endeavors Mr Crown Beverages. That would have sent me into depression but all that is overtaken by the joy of being able to watch my beloved team play competitively on Sunday after all the hanky panky. Who is game for Afraha? Bloggers Branch, is it possible we organize and travel together? Just a thought……but I know with the friendly fire this site elicits, most wont be willing to lose the anonymity they get from their pseudo-names.But still, anyone?

I still suspect the DSTv will not be held though I would have loved to see the two teams play a competitive match. If no formal game then I think the two can play a friendly match.

On Crown Beverages it’s unfortunate that most firms are struggling and laying off their staff so I am not surprised.

On the league let it start . we have waited too long

  • Gut feeling the DSTV cup will be moved to mid-week or even cancelled altogether as DSTV is also facing growth challenges. Furthemore, I notice the anouncement about the date of DSTV cup came from KPL not the promoters DTSV.

    Just my thoughts.

  • Is Mugabe being economical with the truth? He forgets he chairs a public/community club that is always in the spotlight despite his superhuman efforts to operate the club opaquely.Has anyone read of any profit warning/financial troubles @ Crown to back AR’s utterances. For Crown the following may have led to their decision to pull out-Poor publicity coz GMFC 1)won no titles in 2016 2)reduced match attendance & paltry membership.Negative publicity by:1)not paying rent for office/training ground despite sponsorship 2)EC/stewards fighting over gate collections etc.All these point to a poorly managed club. SP’s attraction to GMFC was to penetrate the betting industry throuh its fan base.Unless GMFC delivers titles nationally but moreso regionally & continentally, sponsors will disappear coz of what they want is increased publicity/advertisement period.Membeship and fans, who attract sponsors, are also themselves attracted and maintained by TITLES. +8years experience?

  • …..meanwhile FKF questions the date of the dstv cup and Ngala comes out with guns blazing insisting the crown beverages sponsorship is not terminated but still under review.

rhetoric wars and the battle for relevancy continues….You know you are in Kenya .

    • Jakoyo is it right for FKF to question a league curtain raiser really or is it now a free-for-all bare knuckles approach for supremacy in running football? Also AR says one thing crown sponsorship terminated then Ngala refutes the same with Gusto…So who is what and where hapo EC that getting clarification is impossible and when some of us try to clear the air using insider sources we are held at gunpoint for same issues that even EC itself contradicts on Gor Social media platforms…

  • A company like crown are after value for money. Of late the kogallo following has been dwindling and it will still dwindle as long as the ec cannot account for the millions! On another angle, crown expected to promote their brand through some of us whom the know it all bloggers refer to us goons! You need these goons to own the crown bottle and consume crown drink so that for sponsorship is sustained. I can see that people are sugarcoating the circumstances! Oh Mara hard economic time! The timing of the withdrawal also comes against the backdrop of nyayo and toyoyo. For those who are quick to classify me as a hired goon, remember the late kabasella said “jela Sumba yawuoyi” Keep your safety and leave me alone . Why are you bothered with my potential suffering?

  • Somethings gotta give for sanity to be restored in Kenyan football.Too much war, pushing and shoving btn FKF and KPL is killing the spirit of the beautiful game.I once advised the Office that we win some and loose some and had been winning the argument for many years on 16 vs 18 team format. It is time to let go of this back and forth…

  • Oh wakili oh wakili! Let the sycophants sing that until Mugabe ruins kogalo beyond salvage.I am waiting to read that some goons must have been sponsored to convince crown company to pull out. Na bado, Mugabe’s kingdom is crumbling very fast. Gor is capable of attracting many sponsors but the sponsors are not ready to sponsor individual pockets.

  • This is surely going to be a troubled season. Dstv have pulled out of their own cup. I’m not sure if they are willing to support the league this time around. The game won’t even be live.

The Chair and his team MUST start getting their act together. Time is coming when the few companies willing and able to sponsor will push them to the wall on accountability.
