Gor Mahia lose to Muhoroni Youth in Top 8 final

Gor Mahia were stunned by Muhoroni, losing 0-1 and dashing any hopes of lifting silverware in 2016
Additional Reporting from Citizen Sports
Muhoroni Youth completed a stunning smash and grab 1-0 victory over titleholders Gor Mahia in the KPL Top 8 final marred by crowd trouble which saw the game halted for almost a quarter of an hour at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

Chaos descended when irate K’Ogalo fans set their ire on assistant referee Gilbert Cheruiyot accusing him of not being fair to the two-time winners of the knock-out tournament.

Missiles descended on the pitch as tear gas was lobbied to contain the in another shameful outbreak of hooliganism in domestic football that saw both sets of players dash for their changing rooms immediately after the final whistle with no presentation of the trophy and the Ksh1m prize to the winners possible.

South African pay television channel that was broadcasting the game live across Africa went off air moments later as trouble continued in the stands with defeat too painful to stomach for Gor supporter who saw the Top 8 as the only realistic stab at taking home a trophy this season with their hopes of defending their league crown fast receding.

Amid the rubble of anarchy, Muhoroni celebrated their first ever silverware when Kennedy Rono capitalised on a terrible mistake by the Gor defenders to pinch the ball and coolly round off captain Jerim Onyango for the winner.

His opposite number, Farouk Shikalo Miya put on a match-of-the-match performance to thwart the profligate K’Ogalo who spurned chance after chance to win the game by the margin of daylight before the sucker-punch against the run of play floored them.

I said we give sammy omollo pamzo the job on an interim basis a month ago, nobody listened. How many times will I say that starting both blackberry and nondi on the starting eleven is a recipe for disaster ? Since when did kagere and jausenge both scored at the same match ? Since when did walusimbi play a holding midfield role ? Since when did blackberry play in central midfield ? Enough is enough ! We have seen it all with jabrazil.

Wuololoo…and we still believe we shall win the 2016 league . tell that to the birds bro !

The infamous week of kichapo is back…next is western stima and ingwe , both candidates for a another beating.

I expect heads to roll before the season ends.

    Enough is enough thoooo…

  • Surely, how do you throw missiles at an assistant ref when the real culprits for your missiles are left scot free?? I mean your own mediocre players. Even though the coach played some players out of their usual positions, how do you blame a coach for a lazy player who on a one on one with the goalkeeper decides to go for a feeble shot that doesn’t trouble a goalkeeper with defenders well beaten. Is it a coach’s mistake that a player misses target after target even when the midfield does well to create chances after chances??!! Kagere, Tuyisenge, Baron and BlackBerry were all victims of clear misses. We can say the coach did the best gamble by playing other players out of position coz it worked very well with chances created and again it is the prerogative of the coach to play his players as he so wishes and not fans’ duty. Remember these people train before they come for a match and the coach watches them as they train. Before a player plays whatever position, he and the coaching staff agree and ascertain that the player will be comfortable playing in that position as demonstrated during training. So when they come to a competitive game the player already knows his position and in his full consent. I think gor players are a big let down especially the strikers. Spare the coach a bit!!!

This coach is pathetic and has no ideas at all. He does not know his players, poor in tactical approach and his one way system does not work.

I just blame those that hired him and they should be accountable and carry their own crosses. I have stopped watching Gor Mahia and at this rate I can see Tusker winning the league. The coach is clueless and football is about changing patterns, scoring goals but not making useless comments to the press.

Though painful I think GM shuld be banned frm top 8 for 3yrs or more.It would also be sad if none of these hooligans were. Arrested and sentenced to many yrs in jail.On the other hand how do u equate a coach almost conquering africa with one struggling to win a trophy locally. Incompetence of ZeMaria could easily be seen with his mid season signings. He claims to want to play a certain way bt doesn’t know the type of players who can do that.AR and his ungreatfuness to FN & miscaculatiion has cost us this year.what would be the worst thing that can happen if kimanzi is hired as the coach or even the stima coach

This obsession with FN where did he come from. Real, Chelsea and ManU even fired coaches who won them the UEFA CL and are still strong. Was FN only wired to coach Gor. We can get many coaches all over the world including Kenya. The problem is the complex we have that only a foreigner can do it at Gor. Muho with a stand-in coach still beats us but if the same coach was to come to Gor you would here so many noises. Just like we were told about Kagere not possibly replicating last year’s performance even FN might not

Gor Mahia is winning this league. It is not for faint heartened. I am 100% sure that come 6PM on Wednesday this week, the naysayers of this blog will be showering the team with praises. Watch this space. My reason is simple. The team is playing very good football. If only we can be clinical in our final third and I am seeing that happening in the remaining matches. Those who cannot stomach, please talk a walk or move to Tusker which is now the “better team”. Kuwa shabiki wa Kogallo na Roho moja na mdomo moja. If its too much to bare, kaza mwendo utuondokee.

I was in the stadium and I saw our fans clapping when the goal went in and Muho was celebrating on the Russia end. From what I gathered is that they were applauding Muho who took advantage of the blunder from Shakava as well as encouraging Kogalo to put more effort. Why do we throw stones when we are having a domestic issue to resolve? We are good at kicking the ball around but we still need to work on the final third.
I also heard some fans saying that we have been winning for so long and it’s not a crime for the other teams to win for a change. These are the fans who know that soccer is a game with three outcomes

@ Albert Kosero and other who are advocating kogallo is playing good football.

Brethrens, the results of good football at the end of the day is TROPHIES. No football club in this world will stomach a coach and players who display good football dont deliver the KPI – trophies. To date we have scored less than 30 goals in close to 40 competitive matches in all competition ( the worst in 10 years ) . Fine, we have been defending well but how do you win matches if you don’t score ?

Truth be told, this season there has been serious underperformance issues from the fans aka hooligans , TB, EC and even some players but the buck on the pitch ultimately stops with the head of TB – Ze Maria.

    Gilbert Selebwa comment
Gilbert Selebwa feels Brazilian coach Ze Maria is not the ideal man for the league champions and that he should be replaced

Former AFC Leopards coach Gilbert Selebwa has slammed Gor Mahia tactician Ze Maria, terming him as clueless.

In contrast to his predecessor Frank Nuttal, the Brazilian has faltered in all competitions this season, crushing out of the GOtv Shield, and the latest nail on his coffin being a 1-0 defeat to Muhoroni Youth in KPL Top 8 final on Sunday.

Selebwa feels Ze Maria is not the ideal coach for the fifteen times league champions, and he should be replaced. “Well, I do not think Ze Maria is the right man for Gor Mahia, you can tell from his tactics and fielding at times. He is solely the man to blame for K’Ogalo’s results, and I do not think the team will go far with him in charge, he is clueless.

“He has the right players, but he cannot use them effectively. I think this season is done for Gor Mahia and it is high time they started focusing on the next one.”

K’Ogalo is currently placed in second position with 44 points, seven behind leaders Tusker, who have played one match more.

Listen Here All Ye who always defend Ze Maria while attacking anyone questioning his methods. Pure Joga Bonito aka Tiki Taka is a preserve of very few teams in the football world. It is an art perfected from structured academies in the under 6 to 16 age brackets therefore the feeder system works to ensure Barcelona, Real Madrid, Villareal and SEvilla execute it well. Not even Athletico Madrid prefers that system of play and uses Cattennaccio which is a solid defensive display with counter attacks to beat opponents. English Teams prefer Open wide wing play with fast transitioning and forward pressing. Germany teams prefer a Nationalized footballing system called Blitz Kraigh which is sudden attack based on all departments working effectively and complementing each other automatically hence the jargon German Machine. The rest of the world uses Adaptive formations of 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 and their derivative adaptions of 4-3-2-1 or 4-1-3-2.So which supposed players are this people want us in the EC to sign Ze Maria so he can play Tiki Taka next season?Give names and remember foreign slots remain 5 with three not coming up for extension leaving only the two fullbacks karim & sibomana who the coach is set to release one for Thiaggo Da Silva should he remain Gor Coach. So who are these local players capable of being signed who apparently possess skills better than the players we currently have and will be able to finish the moves in the opponents final third? Please don’t be Rhetorical..I a UEFA Pro B Credential Holder know what i speak of when i tell you this tactics cant work,as has been seen that any team in Kenya even Savannah Cement and Timsales can line-up a counter strategy to this experimental football and get results against Gor so the Onus is for the responsible person to ensure it work,Head of TB…I already shared this sentiments with him long ago and No senior player supports being shepherded to play against his strong points like he does or benches even the best when we have no alternatives. What attractive football has Tusker played to be 2016 champions or Muhoroni for that Matter yesterday to be crowned Top 8 Champions and us losing Finalists?A system is onlyu as good as the Trophies it delivers, nothing more, nothing less…

Abt FN let me correct the hear no evil, see no evil fanatic of AR & ZeMaria @Dan,it is not obsession bt respect for Mr.FN,a coach who achieved much under very difficult conditions and was even willing to renegotiate his salo depending with the financial position of the club only 2be blackmailed & treated unfairly. I beg to disagree with the opinion that the coach is introducing something new,the team is still relying on crosses same as FN ‘s team, the only difference is backpasses which we have perfected.Numerous times we had a chance to overtake tusker bt what did we do?,if nearly all the local coaches have mastered our style of play and the coach is unable to change tactic & u still want more time.even a layman can see waliusimbi is more effective in the flanks than Beri or kagere. This excuse that the coach does not have the players, whose fault is it?,games are aired on TV unlike kitambo,a gud coach can easily identify the players that suits his play.He had that chance of offloading & signing. What players did he bring on board,?the u claim u do not have the personnel, give us a break pls.

  • There is one game that affirmed Ze’s philosophy; and that was the league match in Kisumu of Gor vs Muhoroni which ended 2-0.The intensity of Gor was comparable to some EPL or bundesliga teams. The triangular passing was sweet to watch and effective. In fact we could have pumped five goals in that game. That play was/is the one Gor should adopt for league and to conquer Africa but with a replacement of these foreign based players and some local ones. Currently we are “sailing near the sea shore” it terms of tactics by doing what worked last year under F.N which is a flop since it has been mastered.Solution; Get competent foreigners and mix with good locals like Nondi and watch Ze conquer Africa.Coach apewe authority; akisema No Kagere like Kaka ni No.
