Gor Mahia once again tops FOYA Awards

Gor Mahia was the most awarded team at the 2012 Footballer of the Year Awards.

Dan Sserunkuma won the coveted footballer of the year award , finishing ahead of Paul Kiongera (KCB) and Mika Baraza(AFC). Sserunkuma has been in sensational form scoring freely and giving defenders and opposing coaches plenty to think about.

Coach Zdvarko Logarusic was voted coach of the year after taking Gor Mahia from relegation candidates to contenders.

Anthony Akumu was voted midfielder of the year. After a down year (2011), in which he seemed to lack motivation, Akumu is now back in the form that saw him earn a trial at Randers FC.

  • Gor win big in FOYA awards. Shows that we have quality. Apart from Jerry who we also expected to win, all the rest won their categories.

Sweeping nearly all the honours on offer means we are the true champions….we’ll be back in Feb 2013 to launch an unprecented campaign to take the Cup that belongs to us. This time we’ll start early and i don’t see why we shouldn’t win the trophy with 5 games to spare. And how about going unbeaten? If we carry this imperious form then why not? Prudent recruitments here and there, Tech bench intact, green army in their usual spirits…..i can’t wait for next season. And yes, am truly excited for Akumu….this talent should stay with Kogalo and develop even more…i watched his effort against Sofamiew on tv when i got home…it was going to be one of the goals of the season.

The towel and ma-donkey was the most entertaining moment of season 2012 and it will go into GOR MAHIA history books as the most physiological research of the year. Just do not forget the TOWEL and the “CAT FAMILIES” of EFUSI and SOFA MIAU. Till we meet again.

Congrats Danny, Teddy, Ivan and Log for the well done job you guys achieved.

We once again return glory, honour, praises and thanksgivings to our Almighty God for this far he has taken us in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Surely our heavenly father is our Ebenezer, Yahweh, Jireh, Loi, El-Shaddai, Shamah, protector and provider. God answered all our prayers and he is faithful to his children if we seek diligently.

We are proud of this team and may be the coach need to add five new and experienced players next season. Remember also to go youthful players in nationwide, schools and colleges. Youths have always been the backbone of Gor Mahia.

To all bloggers and fans, thank you very much for your unreserved support, commitment and dedication. Next year, please let all green army fans jam the stadiums or any other sport facilities with at least approximated number of 35,000 fans per match.

  • As we break for the xmas season I feel that some of these players can help our course for next year if we can have them. Mieno, Kiongera, Kahata, Dodo Kayombo (I hear he is coming back from DRC), Francis Ouma (Mathare, with the grooming in Gor the player can be one of the best strikers), Gattusso (I know some will scream at the name), Eugene Asike, Masika PPO, Mugalia, Okello(Bandari Captain). Not sure of Black Berry, Jesse Were. Some of these players can help us to have the depth Sofa had when they played in the CAF tourney a few year ago. I believe these players have the potential and it’s just a matter of coming to the right camp for that potential to be released. Remember how Viera, Lucky Dube and Besigye were a few months ago? Now compare Masika and Besigye and you know what proper coaching does to a player, the confidence he used ti lack as a midfielder now he has it in defence!!

@Dan thanks so much. You have been one of my inspirations this season. May God bless you immensely. Please add Pinches to your list as well as Kennedy Oduor and Obadiah Ndege. I would not mind Jimmy Bageya but the problem is his indiscipline.

I agree with the proposition to get more players. I also still believe in Kenya its at the Green stable that dreams are made for players in most cases.

I remember K14 (Daddy)and many others came right from school to be a stars at GM.

I find it compelling to agree totally withn @Dan that all these players mentioned above are great on the pitch..i’m only scared that Dan has given a full squad! We may end up starting it all over again the way a former coach did it in 2011, Remember?

    It’s a wonderful opinion though.
Mine would be to re enforce the defence and provide cover for Akumu, get another cover for Love A Star, and with the rest in the bench we are good to go instead of creating a full blown confusion with average players. I would propose that we get fresh players to be moulded for bigger assignment with time. By the way it worked for GM in the olden days when GM was GM.

THE GREATEST OF ALL IS THAT THE BUCK STOPS WITH THE TECH BENCH. I SUPPORT AND WAIT FOR THEIR DECISION.

Bloggers well this is simply the best site for K’galo talk.
EC please please scrap this GMFC security. The incompetence displayed by this unit at the end of the game was alarming. Both the trophy and players were exposed to risk of damage/injuries from overzealous fans.Surely fans should have been controlled more, perhaps form two lines or corridor for players to pass in the middle.Lets have more SWAG

  • @Kassim, the idea is to pick from the suggested lists. We have realised that a lean squad is easier to manage but we have to esure that injuries don’t leave us with ‘holes’. We also need utility players like Viera, who at some time was our last man and David Owino our midfield maestro. All the same the current squad is good but definitely some reinforcement will make our local assignments easier and the continetal ones manageable. To me a maximum of 5 players will do. What happened to Kevin ‘Master’ and is Imbem coming back? If they are not available then those are two slots to fill.

Gor have been congradulated with everybody apart from the sponsors TUZO. Are they not happy with the achievement. Was this contract not reward based?. Hey the Green commanders we need to know what our title sponsors have in store for Rama and the group. Mapunda needs a nice holiday down the beach of Dar. After all he is an expertriate working in Kenya.

  • CONGRATULATIIONS WINNERS

Please allow me to congratulations all the nominees and indeed the winners of the FOYA awards at a colourful gala night held at Safari Park Hotel.

I’ll start by congratulating the Footballer of the Year winner, Dan Sserunkuma. The award did not come on silver platter. It was sheer hard work and dedication by the player. You will all recall the difficult period we went through during the beginning of the season when we had a serious goal spell. He is now the highest goal scorer and only one goal shy of the top scorer. He has also contributed alot to goals scored by other players. Pongezi Saba.

Coach Logarusic also deserve the coach of the year award. When he joined K’Ogallo, the club was lying on the bottom of the table with a serious threat of facing relegation. At one time, the ‘ white witchdoctor’ was heavily criticised by bloggers no nonesense decision and sometimes for his loose tongues. In one stroke of pen, he axed 8 players, opeing up hue and cry from fans. On his regular press briefings, he made it clear who he wants players who can ran and think at the same time. Whether he has achieved his objective, i leave it to you. Gor Mahia is now the runners on the TPL standing with the Top 8 and FKF cups safely in our trophy cabinet thanks to Zdravko ( or did i hear somebody say Logarithm?). Got Mahia will now represent Kenya in the continental championship. What’s more?

Akumu on his part has proved beyond doubt he deserve the award. When Gatusso was axed, the club technical bench was at pains to look for a replacement. Akumu has indeed earned the position through hard work. Fans will recall that I was blogging under the name’ Pareyio 09′. I have since singled out his ( Akumu) number to be engraved in my club jersey. How i choose this players is a matter I have articulated elsewhere on this blog.

Ivan Anguyo has remained a towering figure in our defence. His big frame, height coupled with adoring fans has propelled the player to pick this year’s award.

As the curtains comes down to the the TPL, K’Ogallo has once again a strong showing from the fans, standard of the game and the qualty of the technical bench. When I look back, the road this club has travelled to where we are, I now understand why tears were flowing freely at Tok K’Omwanda during the TPL final when K’Ogallo failed to lift the prestigious TPL trophy. Thank you all.
