Gor Mahia players, fans, officials must style up
Gor Mahia completed a memorable 2015 season in which they won 3 trophies and did not lose a single game on the domestic scene during regulation time. Now with the 2016 season underway, the club is on the verge of throwing that run of success into the gutter.
Indiscipline has crept into the playing unit as was evidenced by their refusal to pick up their runners up medals. There were other reports that at the Mombasa airport, two players fought over a debt and both ended up in a police cell. Because the story has not been confirmed, this author desists from naming the duo. This lack of discipline stems from the fact that there are no natural leaders on the team. Gone are the days when players stayed on the team long enough to become natural leaders. With the departure of Bobby Ogolla, the technical bench does not seem to have the wherewithal to rein in players. Goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch is said to have been involved in a shouting match with coach Frank Nuttall. Some reports suggested that Nuttall slapped Oluoch. But the keeper denied it and simply says he and Nuttall do not get along.
“Truth is that I have not enjoyed a smooth relationship with Nuttall, since last season, he does not like me. I play because I am good and because the coach has no option but play me. No, he did not slap me or came close to doing that. He was furious with the way we conceded and shouted at me…nothing much though.” said Oluoch to goal.com
Oluoch also absolved himself from the blame from CNaPS goal.
“It was supposed to be a simple back pass from defender (Karim Nizigiyimana), unfortunately it did not happen and everyone could see it. The blame game on me was just a scapegoat because I do not talk much.” he continued.
The clubs executive committee has also messed up the team’s chances for this year’s champions league campaign. Instead of building on that success to reach a higher level, vested interests and lack of attention took centre stage. They insisted on picking a fight with coach Nuttall thus undermining the coach in front of the players. Their lack of attention resulted in key players not being registered : Francis Kahata, Jacqque Tuyisenge, Luke Ochieng were all ineligible because they were not registered with CAF on time. The same scenario played out last season with Sibomana, Kagere and Nizigiyimana were not signed on time. Apparently the club did not learn any lessons. They were playing against a Madagascan team that bolstered its team with key signings and had the full compliment of players available such that the Madagascan media described their coach Hery Raberisoa as being spoilt for choice with so many good players.
The fans are not helping the club much. Attendance for the Saturday match was below par. The stadium was mostly empty. One would think that fans would be excited after such an exciting season. It is a stark contrast to what Kogalo will face in Madagascar where the fans turn out in droves. And fans do not seem to have learned from having gone three years without a sponsor. Reports suggest that EC member David Kilo was attacked by fans at the stadium, beaten and had to seek medical treatment at the Nairobi hospital.
“The fans that attacked me were led by Jaro Soja. He is the one, who spotted me out asking the fans to attack me. I have reported the matter at Nyayo Police station and I hope the police will bring to book those behind the attack.” said Kilo to goal.com
The club is imploding just as it did in 2012 when a similar drama caused the club to lose 4-0 on aggregate to Ferroviario of Maputo. Except this time it is much worse. It is unfortunate when indiscipline and vested interests combine to lay waste to a glorious opportunity that the club has been given to the club.
Chairman Ambrose Rachier who was roundly booed by fans for his role in the Nuttall fiasco will need to step forward and be the leader he was elected. First he will need to publicly throw his weight behind coach Nuttall. This will empower Nuttall to bring a sense of stability into the playing unit.
Gor was playing with no motivation and commitment and it was evident on the number of blind passes and even the harrasing of opponents after losing the ball, the indiscipline should not be entertained and any player who thinks is a star with no discipline should be relagated to the bench immidietly, EC to come out and support the coach in this discipline issues
So sad that it’s Nick who some of us were maligning here is the one who normalised the situation. Previously during such situations the Gor chair would address the fans, players and TB to let them know what was happening and how they were handling it. Unfortunately AR thinks that money will solve everything and the only persons he needs to talk to are the EC members. On indiscipline we all know that we have players who are naturally not disciplined on the team but no player or individual is bigger than Gor. On Jaro soldier behaviour am not surprised. He should know that there is life outside of Gor
I saw it coming long time ago, AR may be a good person with good intentions for the club but he has allowed himself to be encapsulated by some EC members that he cannot see things are going hey wire.
To some extend am tempted to liken AR to M7 of Uganda who thinks that because he rescued Uganda from the shackles of dictators and led them to where they are now successfully, he thinks that Uganda is his and he is Uganda that no one deserve to be the president and Uganda will not exist without him.
A divided house can never withstand anything, It is now high time AR and his so called EC should throw in the towel and let some one pick from where they left before things get out of hand.
@Bob, I think the biggest issue we have that needs sorting out is our constitution. Removing AR and retaining the archac rules would just give rise to another AR. if we have a constitution where evetyone knows their role then we won’t have rogue fans, EC and indisciplined TB and players. Can we as a matter of priority have a constitution that conforms to the sports act. And those fans who physically molested some officials I wish action is yaken against them. In 2016 we cannot do the same things we did in 1996. Only wild animals have one option of squaring their differences , physically
AR is capable of solving any problem and he can do it. But since some fans have decided to demonize him without good reasons it may be difficult for him to have authority over TB. The truth is that Nuttal can do anything and no one will correct him because he is protected by the fans.
Remember:
AR was for us when thing were not easy.
AR ensure players salary were paid.
AR could call on friends to help the team.
AR struggle until he got a sponsor for GM.
Because of these if any harm AR him physically – GM will be doom by gods curses.
IS NUTALL the current Chairman of GM? Why did BOB leave? Why do you look down upon OUNA? Do you think GM Last Year success was only Nuttal contribution?
It is not easy to build a working Team, Destroy this team and you will remember the same. Sponsor are on alert.
NUTALL will simply have to go ! I told you he is going to drive a war that will pit the fans between the players , the technical bench and the EC. Now the war has started , somebody must stand up and extinguish the fire .It is not AR as most of you think, it boils down to the quality and expectations of fans that Kogallo have.
@Jakoyo, The BEST thing you have said there is on the QUALITY of fans. AT TIMES some of our fans behave like Gor has a RIGHT to win every match. Aren’t the other teams in it also to win? Even Nuttal acknowledges that we cannot replicate the form of last year, even if we had Olunga and Kagere. Some of our fans even dare say that the curse is the sponsorship and they are better off with it. Very archaic thinking. Unless we change our thinking about how we want Gor to progress all the evils in Ingwe can be transferred to our team despite what the others think. My prayer is that we exit the CAF CL and target the local league and CECAFA. As it is we need to have like a 5-year plan to conquer Africa since currently we cannot. Lack of knowledge on our fans is also causing us issues, Tuyisenge was signed in good time but the Rwanda FA could not release his ITC ’cause they wanted to us him in CHAN otherwise he would have been eligible. The office has the responsibility of letting the fans have such info. Am sure the sponsor can help the team set up a competent PR office since that is what is currently lacking
Replicating the success of last season won’t be easy. However, since we retained the core of the team expectations are that we should perform fairly well.
As for fan attendance, the low turnout was expected.from what I heard, the gate charges disillusioned many fans. That is something that the EC has never learnt from..we needed the numbers to create a hostile atmosphere for the visiting team.Instead we had a small graveyard atmosphere.EC look across the boarders and borrow from what they do to encourage huge fan attendance! !
@Dan Original, I concur with your sentiment, the only problem we are having is that, EC has been very limited with the truth, GM is a big club with many stakeholders but sometimes the way EC are addressing issues pertaining to the club is like we don’t owe them any thing.
There are many initiative that have been started of which if properly implement GM can self sustain, so instead of this office leading the way in making sure this projects succeed, they are only interested in things that benefit them.
And on fans misconduct, you don’t have to look far, in political perspective they are the same mongrels who never listens to anything, they thinks actions/violence is better than reasoning
On what happened on Saturday, how I wish that we take it like sportsmen. Though an important match, it was also an opportunity to expose where we are considering that we had just started our season. It also gives the Technical bench light into what the need to do. Loosing and winning is part of the game. And I think that going for each other’s neck may not be very healthy because no man or team for that matter is an island. Let us stand and support the team and encourage them that there is another day.
On CAF competitions, if at all EC wanted Gor Mahia to make any impact then probably they could have registered Francis Kahata, Tuyisenge, Innocent Wafula, Luke Ochieng’ and any new player. But then the matter was treated casually then we have very high expectation?
As fans we need to be open to any results, otherwise there will be too much violence and end result will be losing the sponsor. The other undeniable fact is that some of the fans use hard drugs and control can be a problem. Police should be on the alert and treat fans as fans and criminals as criminals.
On the EC issue, Gor Mahia needs to do an election. Chnage is psychological and I think majority of supporters/fans no longer want to see the current office. Their reasons for change could be valid or not, depending on which side you stand. Kilo can’t pin-point on Jaro Soja as it was a mob justice and he might not be having a clear evidence to support his allegations.
Players – yes, all players must be disciplined if at all they are thinking beyond Kenya Premier League. Secondly, no player can’t be replaced so Boniface must respect the coach and he has to know that Gor Mahia has 3 other goalkeepers so there is no need of spoiling his career with foolish argument.
Current problems in Gor Mahia were initiated by the EC by poor leadership style and sacking of Frank Nuttal without any apparent reason. Did the EC saw this coming before making poor decision?
Please do not beat around the bush the players who fought at Mombasa airport are Collins okoth and nzigymana.
The player who fought the coach at nyayo stadium dressing room is Boniface oluoch
My question is why are these players not suspended are they trustee of gormahia.
Currently match fixing is rampant at gormahia from players.Ec and very soon fans will follow suit due to these sportspesa betting
The chronic players perpetuating this match fix are Musa.shakava.nzigynana.agwanda.keli.collins.blackberry.oluoch n some tb jolawi n ongweno
I totally support jakoyo by saying coach nutall should leave gor urgently before these fans who cheat that they with him start molesting him. Soon the fans will b bribed and start throwing the objects at coach nutall so he better leaves immediately. Coz big money without brains is always dangerous. N Ec will not work with him even players. Nutall please leave in peace Africans don’t have brains.
Very sad that Boniface oluoch has decided to destroy his career by fighting the coach he will never feature in harambee stars he is just an idiot
This is all utter nonsense. This is not taking us anywhere for sure. Of what use is it to win the local league in that manner last season and totally fail to plan for continental? If we are not careful, am afraid we are going the shemeji way and it could be worse for us considering what we have passing as fans. Am seeing that something has to give if we really want to be somewhere. Last, there are no two ways about playing units discipline, whoever is misleading these young boys please stop it.
i really dont see much problems in Gor mahia if we can have Ngala shown the door Jolawi shown the door and Tom ogweno given a serious Warning . if someone wants to eat sportpesa money should not plan for Cheos in Gor plz let us have these people giving our dear coach a good room and environment for doing his work so that we play well. i cannot blame any player because these are people bound by the rules and someone should be there to ensure they follow the policies not organise them to do politics in the team for fans to suffer. NB NATULL should not be compromised at any point because without him Gor will not play in the league. why this time and not last year or previouse season when we did not have sponsor onboard.
Poor leadership is the biggest problem at Gor Mahia. EC saw the money and they want to be paid too. This hypocrisy from AR and his entire EC. Players fought, official sacking coach, team is losing, etc
Some bloggers should stop this bullshit of criticizing players for their unbecoming behavior.
You got to have known long time ago that there is no leadership in this great club. How do you expects staffs to work in an organization where there is no structure, organization and discipline mechanism…..The players are simply taking advantage of the vacuum in the office.
Who can discipline the players if the office are the one showing them how greedy they are and blatantly disregarding rules and regulations in the club, If there are some which I doubt.
People, the truth is unless we proffesoinalise the club, the likes of AR or the wannabes will continue taking us for merry. Take an example of Cnaps game, who is supposed to promote events? Where is Amina Oketch? Let’s have a clear work cut out for individuals. Have a performing CEO with a fully fledged office and I assure you everyone will envy us. Let John Pesa and the likes be council of elders with their own secretariat. We gave a lot of Ideas to this blotted office but no one would give us an official appointment for presentation. To me let’s vote in thorough minds to take us forth. I want to hear from like minded persons on this forum and let’s have a forum to strategies. I’m willing to be part of good minds.
@blackmarket as your name betrays you, Africans aren’t stupid so stop generalising US. Your English does not portray you a better African. Give us constructive Ideas to better the club.
APTLY PUT ADMIN, ALLOW ME TO ADD LET’S ALL PGF=PUT GOR FIRST. Say what you may about him but the best thing Logarusic did to K’galo was instill discipline in the playing unit and keep Ec meddling at bay. That said you can’t wish away the Nutall factor, of coz its not a one man show but AR, legend JBO, Ouna, Williamson etc were all there before but in comes Nutall and he takes GM to a unmatched level locally and makes us recognized regionally. Me believes we lost the Gortv Cup due to these machinations. What Ec has done is sacrilege and all must be done constitutionally or by whatever means for EC to get a very clear message that such actions are simply unacceptable, thank-you J.S
@blackmarket, were you in Mombasa airport. Wacha Udaku mingi ile haina maana. Gor played badly but lets give them a chance, even Barca, Bayern, Juve and the rest have their bad days in office. Tuwache udaku na tusupport team.. MIGHTY K’OGALO FOREVER
