Gor Mahia pursuing Ivorian striker
Gor Mahia are in negotiations with striker Ephrem Guikan. The Ivorian who plays for AS Port Louis of Mauritius is well known to Kenyan football fans after his double sent Tusker FC crashing out of the 2017 Africa champions league.
CEO Ludovick Aduda confirmed the news.
“It is true that we are talking to Guikan over a possible move to Gor Mahia. The player is currently in the country and was in attendance as Gor Mahia were crowned champions on Saturday in Kisumu. Everything looks positive for now and I can promise that an agreement will be reached soon. We are working on giving him a two year contract and should be part of us before the start of next season.” said Aduda to goal.com
Given that Gor Mahia have already reached the limit of foreign players they can sign, the club would need to release one foreign player should the deal go through.
Care needs to be taken
It is not clear whether this player is any better than the current set of strikers that Kogalo has. The mere fact that he is from CIV does not automatically better. His video CV is very sparse. Also there is no indication of whether he has undergone tryouts, medical exams or whether coach Kerr approves.

Yeah man…that winger is deadly and he is leaving defenders beating duster but will complicate the quota. With Migi mercifully surrendering his spot after an experiment gone wrong, it is only one spot for Guikan. How do we accomodate this ‘African Ronaldo’. From the clip, I think this is the type of a striker we need. Sammy Onyango of Ulinzi is also a very good addition. If Miguna, Phileomon and Wendo are still with Gor next season, then I do not think we need Mieno. i would rather we recruit upcoming players and groom them as opposed to established players who are almost in the sunset of their careers.

@ Albert kosero, good initiative UG is kogallo market with huge untapped potential, how i wish in future you would give some of us, 2 weeks advance notice.
On the other hand my 2 cent contribution to this recruitment agenda is two things
(a) the ivorian should not join kogallo simply because he scored against our arch rivals tusker…and
(b) if we loose out on shami kibwana, it will be a big shame to a club that boosts of attracting the best from the region……
@Jakoyo, I will endeavour to give adequate notice in future. I also pray that EC may consider coming to UG for pre-season and play their counterparts – Onduparaka.

Jakoyo the ivorian went on to score 9 goals in 15 matches of the Mauritius second leg…That is by any means clinical considering he’s just few goals shy of our own strikers who played 34 matches all season…Let him come fire goals in K’ogalo
This Gulkan fellow is a good striker. How old is he? Look at the way he chooses his spot as he scores his goals. Evidence of a composed quick thinker…..and a hustler too. Get him and release Mig7. Meanwhile Shami Kibwana or Sammy Onyango should replace Timothy Otieno. I don’t support the roping in of Humphrey Mieno and Paul Were. I can bet Paul Were may pull a Collins Okoth Gattuso on the Tech Bench.

Guikan is a good striker… I had the privilege of watching him against Club africaine …he’s fighter one on one a complete finisher. And i think around good players will be a force to reckon with.
