Gor Mahia ready to regain continental glory

Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) representatives, Gor Mahia, are out to disprove the country’s low FIFA world ranking by embarking on an extended run in the competition.

Speaking in Nairobi on Monday after conducting his first training session of the season, Gor’s returning Croatian coach, Zradvko Logarusic affirmed his charges were fired up for their continental campaign that kicks-off mid next month.

Domestic Cup holders Gor have been drawn against Seychellois side Anse Reunion in the preliminary rounds before facing Egyptian side ENPPI in the first phase of the competition.

“The Cup may be coming too early for us since we have just started our pre-season but we will go step by step.

“We will give them respect but they must also respect Kenyan football and Kenyan players. First, we must pass the Seychelles test and then we come to Egypt and that is where I hope we shall prove that Kenya does not deserve to be position 126 on the FIFA rankings,” Logarusic said.

He acknowledged the enormity of the task of toppling ENPPI should they as expected, navigate through the Islanders whom they face between Feb. 15 and 17 and March 1 to 3 in a two-legged aggregate winner tie.

“Of course, anything can happen with the Seychelles team but we pass them, we are playing a club that has a budget of 25 million U.S. dollars and ours is only 600,000 dollars per year and is sponsored by companies like Nike and McDonalds.

“It says everything but we shall play without fear,” the coach of the only Kenyan club to lift a continental title when Gor won the 1987 CAF Cup Winners Cup (now defunct) added.

Logarusic spoke as his side unveiled six new players, including Giovanni Rodriguez Bissolli, the first Brazilian to feature in the Kenyan league.

Ugandan-national Israel Emuge, Nigerian-national Abbey Natti as well as local players Zachary Onyango, Paul Kiongera, Innocent Mutiso and David Otieno are the other additions.

Logarusic who ended speculation on his future after leading Gor to two domestic cups and to within a point of the league title also explained why he returned to the most supported club in Kenya.

“I could not disappoint these people; I did not finish my business. We took two titles and the one we wanted most we did not take. We are here for business, the season is long and for the next 10 months, it will be very hard work.”

At least 3-0 scoreline against Seychellois side Anse Reunion will be really good. However, any win is ok as long as we don’t allow them to get an away goal that may later on work against us.

O.G.A.T but Yes 2/3-0 to be safe.
For the future TB must work on the attacking midfield.

Maybe David Owino could be adapted he so versatile.
Pole Love-A-Star is out with injury (Don’t know why I see so much untapped potential in this lad but he also has to step up his game, its his 3rd season)and Emuge is ineligible.

With Logarusic’s firm hand (administratively this guy is good, brings so much order and direction in the bench and office) and Sir Bob’s tactical ability we should prevail at least through this round.

    All the best team K’galo.

Ingo@4 thats what I wishful thinking, na wacha hayo ni yako, maybe you have another Kogalo that we don’t know. For the Kogalo I know I can tell you confidently today: Dan 1, Kiongera 1, Rama 1, Kevo 1 and Dube 1- sema 5 and repeat 5 to nothing. Any way shemeji you are very much welcome to watch a great match and bring isikuti to add to the cheers.

  • Wish the boys all the best. I know we can do it despite all that is said and written. My only appeal is for the fans to do what they know best and that is to cheer the team. The kenyan fan mentality of pressurising the coach to sub a player they think is not meeting their expectations should not be there. I believe the coach knows best what he is doing. We have seen coaches playing by the crowd and substituting a player only for the sub to perform dismally.
The other request is for all of us fans to behave responsibly. Do not inconvinience those who have nothing to do with the game, especially motorists, pedestrians and other members of the public. Remember this is an election high tide and our mis/behaviour can have negative/positive implications. Let’s be humble in a win/defeat/draw

II know all those players you have listed above. What I am saying is that Re has betterpayers than those listed above. They (Re) are quick to the ball, more skillful and have a structured 4-4-2 system. Any way my broda, sukuti nitaleta, lakini matokeo ni yale yale…..Re moja, gor sufuri

Oooh Laa laa a!!!!!! ” STOP THIS CHEST THUMPING”

@ Dan your post above confirms your maturity and sportsmanship attitude. I agree 100% that we should expect any kind of result inclusive of a draw or loss.

@ ingo am happy you share my worries as depicted on your own predictions and lastly we should respect your decision to support K’Ogalo opponents. There is nothing like lack of patriotism simply because you are an ardent EFUSI. That is what make soccer entertaining.

I will be in the stadium to support K’Ogalo as usual but with an open mind that anything can happen and not the kind of unrealistic fanatical wishes am reading above. PERIOD!!!!!!!

Can someone tell me even a single day that ingo said that Gor is going to win a match. This ingo is only hopping that Gor will fall to Re-union bcos Gor have not lost a match since they lost to ulinzi last season yet with Efusi they keep on loosing to even division one clubs. When did ingo see Re-union play and judge that they are more tactical than k’ogalo. If you hate Gor, it means that you hate the entire family of k’ogalo and there is no reason to like you & therefore I hate you and I have no apologies

Let us pray to the Almighty God, that our players are in good health, shape and mind. I am sure we are going to win. But we must put alot of effort. Longa knows all teams in Africa. He is adigital coach and am sure he must have checked Anse pattern, strenghths and weaknesses. So guys lets go tomorow to reclaim our place in the continent.
