Gor Mahia receive walkover

Gor Mahia advanced to the semi finals of the KPL top 8 tournament. This was after AFC Leopards came through on their threat to boycott the match. Kogalo officials had implored their fans to turn up for the match. And despiteĀ  the uncertainty about whether the game would be played a sizable crowd turned up.

AFC now face a fine of ksh 8 million. Gor Mahia will play Tusker in the semis on August 2. On Sunday Gor Mahia instead played a friendly against Talent academy.

  • Its a pity that in this century we still have people like Ole Magelo, endowed with twisted, bent and reversed thinking still leading our football teams. AFC Leopards will never grow if they continue to be lead by Ole Magelos of this world as Chairmen. He has auctioned the players’ interests to satisfy his personal ego of being the most powerfull man in AFC Leopards. Let him fight his personal wars in the club without involving the players and the technical team. The club has HEAVILY been fined now by KPL despite the fact that they claim not to have the money. Ole Magelo has totally lost any moral authority of remaining relevant in football management in this country. My take on all this: Run baby run. AFC Leopards MUST run away, VERY FAST from this clueless man before they are run aground and to a grinding halt. Be warned Efusi.

  • What Ole Magelo displayed is not in the spirit of football at all. It is regretabble that this man decided to display act of yester years of arrogance despite being the member of the council that met in Mombasa recently to fix the top 8 match.

Magelo noted that AFC Leopards accounts had been frozen, what about the recent western Kenya air trips to and fro by KQ? These are the kinds of officials that should be booted out of office and be replaced by those that care about football as sports for the interest of players and fans that form greater part of the team.

    Very unfortunate indeed.
I hate politics but I can’t help to smell politics in this historical misdeed.

Apparently the political game plan is to create and sustain a wide schism between the political voting block to which Efusi is affiliated and their perceived political foes. It is sad that desperate politicians like the perenially xenophobic medical doctor should resort to exploit sports to polarise communities that share so much historically and culturally.

The architects of this heinous plot should know that at the end of the day Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards need each other and must co-exist. There is nowhere in history that evil has prevailed over good. In all instances the gains of evil are very temporary and raw justice always catches up with the evil mongers.

To Dr Mheshimiwa and Efusi chairman: what happens to these two clubs after the elctions? Will you organise for reconciliation?

@ 1 & 2 – I echo your sentiments. One thing I’m not sure is whether AFC will pay this fine the way their ‘boss’ Mr. Nyamweya has been talking. In fact this guy contributed to all these mess. When AFC was talking about security, does it mean us GM we are made of metal and don’t care about our security so that someone may feel he’s insecure and GM are secure? Let’s wait and see whether AFC’s Magelo and Nyamweya will manage to run away from GM during KPL second leg match. I rest my case.

His love for us is deep for it reaches to the depths of despair and discouragement..

God’s love for us is always with us through out all of our experiences in this life. The Apostle Paul wrote,
“FOR I AM PERSUADED THAT NEITHER DEATH
NOR LIFE, NOR ANGELS NOR PRINCIPALITIES
NOR POWERS, NOR THINGS PRESENT NOR
THINGS TO COME, NOR HEIGHT NOR DEPTH, NOR
ANY OTHER CREATURE, SHALL BE ABLE TO
SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD WHICH
IS IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.” ( ROMANS 8:38-39 )

So fellow bloggers, when you are feeling left out by Magelo or AFC leopards or all alone remember that you are never without God’s Love, and that He is right there with you!

I am quite disturbed by the kind of tantrums you are throwing to Ingwe chairman, Alex ole Magelo and his executive committee for failing to honor the SuperSport funded Top 8 tournament last Sunday.

The chairman has never minced his words on the reasons why they are giving the fixture a wide birthe. They have cited lack of money and insecurity. But Koops is also on record saying they are now focusing more on the league title and the least they expect is distractions from external quarters.

Football Kenya Federation has already awarded Gor Mahia a walkover and Ingwe is awaiting a bill from the losses and liability incurred including broadcast rights by SuperSport. Whatever the amount, it is none of Gor Mahia business.

It is true the country is already in an election mood, however it very wrong to impute improper motive on the part of AFC Leopards for failing to turn up for the Nairobi derby without substanciating the allegations.

In the meantime, let us focus on the league match ahead and ofcourse the semi final of the Top 8 tournament. The kind of counter acussations against your purported in laws is uncecessary and overtaken by time.

That walkover is not as important to the Gor Mahia community as the harmony and peaceful coexistence between the two communities from which these two clubs (Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards) enjoy their larger support.

We should not give a blind eye to the potential catastrophe that the unravelling events potend. Let us not be sympathetic to these actions simply because one of the main actors here is our kin (Ole Magelo).

@Pareyio please take a second look at the snapshot above. Yes, that’s how fans of the two great clubs should relate. Do you see Gor Mahia fans appreciating that Leopards fan by tossing him in the air?
The actions of Ole Magelo definitely do not encourage such friendship. Consider that many soccer fans are youth who happen to be volatile and energetic. I shudder to imagine what would unfold if youths sympathetic to Ole Magelo’s school of thought were to get a forum for expressing their feelings; and how such actions would impact on peace.

I refuse to be muzzled. I cannot keep quiet when I see a bad seed being sowed. Politics must just be kept away from sports. These two clubs must exist even after we are long gone.

@bfb no3,and wab 4,swali bado ni ile ile. What about september when the two teams are supposed to meet in the second leg?
With not so much being at stake yesterday,I think yesterdays, match could have been used to diffuse tension between the two teams ahead of the title decider in september.Because,With ingwe leading kogallo with just two points and with just five games remaining I see the september 23rd match being a very explosive one and decisions like the one reached taken by efussi not to honour yesterdays’match, only does us more harm than good, and just poisons the atmosphere and raises unnecessary temperatures and tension, before the ‘final’ in sepember

  • my take remains that this tournament was not well sponsored. tournaments such as super 8 are good but they must be CREAMY. spending 800k to win 1mil is not good in football hence my argument that supersport shud have added to the kitty of another tournament eg prezzo cup. my other take is that fkf has no right to punish afc. this tournament is a tournament that the clubs can choose to participate or not. as much as they could have signed a contract then its up to afc to see that they followed on what they agreed on while choosing to opt out. but fkf should not tell us that they will use some rules to punish afc. i am not an afc fan but i hate to see supersport come to this country and start flaunting its muscles just coz it sponsors the league. i feel compelled to defend the kenyan tuff and on this issue of punishment then i choose to stand by leopards side. the nxt thing supersport will be telling gor which tournament to be playing in. supersport is trying to build its clout in e africa with the super-eight tournament…i have nothing against this but guys pls remember how windy and money oriented fkf is. so pls watch out that the kenyan league will one day not be decided from some studio news anchor in south africa.

@bfb no7,spot on.The picture above says it all.
We are not lambasting ole magelo or dr khalwale or efussi, because they come from a different tribe like for example the majority of fans who support kogallo,or on account of them belonging to a different political party than for example a majority of gor fans.NO!what we are saying is that the actions of ole magelo and mheshimiwa just goes to erase the gains made in bringing the two set of fans together and creating camaraderie as captured by the picture above. We appreciate the afc leopards supporters, and we also appreciate anybody who belongs to or supports a political party different from what we subscribe to.Besides, you don’t have to support a specific political party for you to be a fan of kogallo.Mheshimiwa,it may even suprise you that we have a good number of your party members supporting kogallo.
So let at all times try let politics be politics and football be football.

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are our pride and as Dinga puts it, no one should rejoice that Efusi has been punished. Le Pastre is equally right in post 1: “My take on all this: Run baby run. AFC have the right to choose whether to play this worthless tournament or not. As we speak the same scenario is being witnessed in Tanzania where the two leading clubs Simba and Yanga have refused to take part in the same tournament(Tanzania Super 8)and instead opted to concentrate with the League. May be by bad luck one of your key player gets injured in ur semis with Tusker that is when you will fill the pains of such games being organised in between premier League games. Clubs will be serious with the FKL Cup because the winner represent the country in continental tournament unlike the super 8. Super 8 can be organised a few weeks before the premier League.

    Reply
  • I was at the stadium and what I witnessed is very different from what the powers that be are potraying. The few AFC fans were all over the place mingling with GM fans. After all apart from footy these people are very close to each other and share so much in common. As much as the Dr. spews venom every week to drive a wedge between them, as said by Mwakio the good will prevail over the evil. In SA the super 8 is a very tournament and just over the weekend a pre-season cup tie in SA attracted over 93,000 fans. That’s what we should do and Ole Magelo should spearhead this. The moment these two teams play fequently the better for Kenyan football and cohesiveness of communities. We might say that Super 8 is not important but in Kenya some teams literally play only 30 games in a season. In Europe they play the league caup, the FA equivalent, the league and european. This could be as many as 50 games a season. In kenya without a reserve league some players will go a whole season having played less than 90 minutes. That’s why tourneys like super 8 are good. I even had a chance to see the GM players like Githu (Gaucho) and Mbugua doing their staff yesterday in the friendly match. Maybe those are the games we need for them. AFC say super 8 has no money (only 1m) yet they have entered for FKF where you only get a miserable trophy and then you incur even more cost before being knocked out in the preliminary stages. They should ask Sofapaka and Gor how expensive it is to honour those matches. Even Kidero personally cannot foot that bill. On finances how does a team like City and Rangers honour their matches without money that AFC was not able to emulate. Travelling from Kawangware to Kasarani I’m sure AFC fans could afford. GM could even have afford to transport them using our bus!! Another question from me is what happens if we are drawn together in FKF cup? Another boycott since the circumstances, especially of the fans won’t have changed.

  • I think Nyamweya and co. should concentrate on making the FKF cup arrangements to rival the Top 8 arrangements. From what went on last year unless something changes we expect the same. I used to have a low regard on how Oguda and co were running KPL but have since changed my stance. The association with supersport must have injected some professionalism in them. Our only problem as a country (and by extension the football family) in impunity and accepting medicrity as a way of life.

Gor, AFC and Tusker among top 100 clubs in Africa
Updated on 30/07/12 | By JOHN MUNENE

The Kenyan Premier League may be ranked at position 122 out of 122 according to the latest IFFHS rankings but this has not deterred local clubs from making it to the latest top 100 all-time African Club Rankings by clubworldrankings.com.

At position 45, Gor Mahia is the best ranked Kenyan club. The former Mandela cup champions have a total of 90 points.

Arch-rivals AFC Leopards are placed at position 79 in Africa with 43 points. Defending KPL champions Tusker FC are third in the country and at position 87 in Africa.

Egyptian clubs Al-Ahly and Zamalek occupy the first two positions. Esperance Sportive (Tunisia),TP MAzembe (Congo), Asante Kotoko (Ghana), ASEC Mimisas (ivory Coast) Raja (Morocco), Jeunesse Sportive (Tunisia),Canon (Cameroun), Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia) complete the top 10.

Tanzanian club Simba FC is placed at position 55 while arch-rivals Yanga are at 60.Ugandan clubs Villa SC and Kampala City Council SC are at positions 59 and 99 respectively.

It was big shame in Kenya football,by Leopards not playing the game, even if they consider putting all their resources and effort in premier league,i believe is its wrong advice because Top six teams can still be winner in the league. They should have chairman who has feeling for team but not for popularity.I believe almost 80% of leopards players were really willing to play that game.

@12 Efusi Damu – I wanted to ignore your comments but I have to talk…Recently you played U20 and lost 3-2, was it part of KPL? What if you got injuries as you are saying? Players do get injuries even during training sessions. As for the super 8 tournament, AFC did not feature last year but other teams have been playing it and yesterday it was a great embarrassment…if anything, Ulinzi stole our victory last year just like this. Ideally, this supr8 is not meant for incentive but for marketing/exposing players so it should not be taken negatively. Again we can’t say teams to play it at their own convenience. In summary it’s good to be sincere – was it because of injury, financial constraints, sabotage, etc that AFC did not show up? if anything, they were called into pre-match meetings and decided to go to Nyamweya instead; that truth has to come out clearly and it’s good FKF is by your side and maybe they can reverse all these decisions made

Whenever ingwe and kogallo fans meet on the blogs and social medias,it is always matusi, matusi, matusi. So today atleast I’ve met somebody who wants to discuss football with some objectivity.
@12,efussi damu,I totally agree with you, that as it is right now that top 8 thing is a worthless tournament in terms of the cash incentives involved .But again all the tournaments in kenya are euqually or even more worthless than the top 8.Look at the fkf,gor was given a paltry ksh330,000,for winning it last year.Look at the kpl,you only get about ksh3m,after playing 30matches,spread over 10months.So by those standards the top 8,which is played over 3months might as well be the most prestigious and luxurious tournament considering that kpl also takes care of the logistics and bonuses.Anyway that is just one way of looking at it.

What should be important though is that the top 8,was establihed to bring some form of competitiveness in the league. Before we used to have just 2 or 3 teams competing for the title and another 3 or 4 fighting relegation.Atleast with the top 8,midtable teams will also have to work harder to the last day of the season,to make it to the top 8.
Imagine a scenario where going into the last day of the season, you are playing relegation threatened oserian, and tusker with whom you are level with are playing 9th place kcb who are just one point off 8th placed stima.Stima will have to win to guarantee a place in the top8 at kcb,s expense.Meanwhile kcb will give joint leaders tusker a game of their lives as they try to dethrone stima in 8th.Afc will go,into their last match without the fears of kcb ‘selling’ the match to tusker. In other words am talking about COMPETITIVENESS of the league, brought about by the top 8(esp amongst the midtable teams which are always sitting pretty in their ‘comfort zone’even with so many games remaining).

Finally,on the issue of players getting injuured in top 8, this is the perfect opportunity for teams to introduce the fringe players to the big stage and try on new systems and formations. You can throw in 3 or 4 regular players and blend them with akina seda.As for gor we have enough of these new and young players gathu, mbugua etal.

  • @dan : so gor is position 45, or 10 or 50; my question is then… based on what? i can understand the zamalek or el ahly or mazembe. currently gor has not won anything worth mentioning, was this position then just given to gor just like that. i thnk that the league positioning is more realistic. the kenyan league is well arranged but we cannot talk much when it comes to quality. even in the region our position has now been taken over by tanzania n UG. we have seen harambee stars position going up sometimes for no apparent reasons. the point i’m trying to make is that we should be proud of the points we ACHIEVE while on the pitch. the points we achieve simply coz of appearance will get us nowhere. the super 8 is a good tournament but playing 50 matches is not guarantee to better football. ask england… arent they in europe..if this is the argument then they shud be winning the world cup every other time. we need to invest in good coaches. this is what tz et uganda and APR rwanda are doing and now i can add k’ogalo.with a good coach and good plan then wether we play 20 and they play 50 then it will not matter. we play more or less in the same number of matches in african leagues…then my question is, how come we never seem to beat nigeria or namibia? quantity does not translate to quality.playing sofapaka 4 times in one season is no guarantee to better quality football. super 8 tournament must then be a tournament that teams want to die for. in tz clubs have also pulled out! tournaments for the sake of tournaments will be a waste of time.the olympics has no money but tell me what other win an athlete has ever dreamed of winning. improvement comes when players know this is something worth fighting for, but if they are just FRIENDLY MATCHES then expect just that. i would rather win the league than the super 8 any day. the league might not have tangible cash like the super 8, but its benefits outway the super8 any day and thats why players give their all.put more cash in super 8… having said all this i expect that the kenyan game will raise simply coz of consistency. but we need gor back in e n central then champions league.remember that in the yr b4 gor took the east an central AT WILL with afc. then if u come back and say gor is in postion 20, then i will believe.

  • @Dinga the rating is based on how the teams have performed in Africa over the time. Remember GM won one Africa tourney and reached the final some other time. These are the points accumulated and awared to the teams. It’s unfortunate that we haven’t replicated that performance but it’s still attributed to the team. It’s just llike the plaayer and teams of the century were picked a few years ago.
For GM to discover those ways we must do things differently as circumstances have changed. Maybe it’s time we implemented what former Chair Okudo wanted. That’s converting it to a limited company where fans/supportes/investors can buy shares to be part of the team. With a share capital of say 1000 shillings per individual we can start from somewhere. The ManUs and Arsenal we support have done that. The only worry is the Glaziers’ style of a single person buying the controlling shares, though for coperate governance it ould be a plus
