Gor Mahia resume training as Nuttall set to return

Coach Frank Nuttall is set to return on Wednesday Jan 7. According to the club site, he is set to land at JKIA at 7 am. This hopefully ends speculation over whether Nuttall was returning at all.

When he does return he could very well return to a scene where many players have not reported to camp. A report in futaa.com suggests that players who havent received their November salaries have yet to return to camp. Now that President Kenyatta has come through on his promise to donate KES 2 million to the club, the money will hopefully be used to settle outstanding salaries in order to get Gor Mahia focused on the task ahead.

Coach Nuttall has his work cut out. Whereas he had found a winning combination last season, he will have to work hard to find a new one since many of the players he depended on last season have left. There are new players whom he will need to learn how to work with such as Jerry Santos, Dirkir Glay and others. The earlier he starts the better, especially with Gor Mahia set to play in the CAF champions league preliminary round.

Last year Gor Mahia gave a below par performance against US Bitam in the preliminary round. They were then overwhelmed by Esperance in round 1. One reason given by coach Williamson for the below par performance was that the team had not played together long enough. One can only hope that they have learned. They need to play some high profile friendlies unlike last year when they played against Supa Loaf. Tanzanian representatives Azam FC have already been in camped in Uganda followed by participation in the Mapinduzi cup where they played top teams such as KCCA of Uganda and KMKM.

  • With only 3 weeks to the first competitive assignment, Let’s see if the coach returns……..if he indeed he does return, we should brace ourselves for friendlies against moyas, nakumatt, zoo fc, kakamega homeboyz and the likes……same old story.

  • What the coach does or not is not my priority now. Whats important is to pay players their dues. We have a blotted office which do not even have any communicative tool. I noticed that George Bwana has now become an agent. I met him with Calabar in Lusaka.
Aduda, whom have we signed and at how much???

Are we getting Aucho or has Jerry Santos been approached instead? How about Olunga? i don’t expect answers since transfers are sensitive issues but that’s my wish

@Jakoyo, the coach is already here. On friendly matches, there is no problem even if Gor Mahia is to be pitted against my village team.

  • If the recruitment list(elsewhere) is anything to go by then we are not very badly off. I only decry the luck of NEW raw talent. The 15-16 yr old maestros nobody knows about. Where are such players? I am suprised that the Gor youth team has not provided any new ‘Otero’ so to speak. The onus is now on the coach to come up with a formular that will leave as screaming for more. I would like Nuttal to come up with something more exiting. We might not light up Africa but the caliber that is there now should at least light up e.africa. I am saying this on the basis that this coach is eating 600k. then this means HE MUST BE THAT GOOD.

Welcome back Bwana Coach. There is a lot in your hands but I believe you are ready for the task. The team you have am sure is rearing to go and as Gor family we are really waiting. I would just like to say that Optimism is the key as opposed to Skepticism. When might be the unveiling of the new guys?

Welcome back Nut. From the look of things those criticizing unnecessarily may have to eat their words. I like those with unending hope and optimism like Kosero and Dan Original, they kept assuring us that things were happening quietly behind the scenes. RELOADED,now let the fireworks begin.

Looks like we have burst our quarter of foreigners. We now have approximately 10 against an allowed 7. Unless the EC knows that Walusimbi will go to Zambia and Ssemanzi loaned back to UG then we remain with Emuge and Pierre.
Maybe FKF meant that we can recruit a total of 7 and but not a total of 7.
Quite a challenge but i believe the EC knows what to do. I think we can now close shop as the striking has also been adequately covered.
Now the challenge is on us as fans to support the team both morally and finacially. Let’s not leave the whole burden to the EC and/or sponsor.
I also hope the bitter lesson of not having a sponsor and the accompanying fnancial crisis are lesson enough for us fans to change our behaviour once we land a sponsor. We will be monitored through a microscope to see any bad conduct once we land one which is coming soon

I hope the list above is authentic. If so, let us learn to appreciate the work others do as much as the EC remains suspect in obvious management issues.

We may just retain the league once more and surprise Africa!

@Mwakio, is he the Mike OLunga who wanted to be at GM?

    Almighty God bless

The great news is that all the new signings have been offered long terms deals with the exception of Michael Olunga who has penned a one-year contract.

All these are immaterial unless the crucial matter of paying players & TB on time is sorted out.
Can we guarantee salary payment on time (now that we are boasting for have made adequate signings) hence demand results from the players/TB or are we/EC just hoping that things just pan out.

1.The new and improved contract for the coach means the club needs kshs.1M every month. In my view this is too much for the club a this juncture.
2.Gor Mahia could be faced with a monthly wage bill in excess of kshs.3.5M.
How I wish Nutall would accept a salary of kshs.600,000/month and the balance of kshs.400,000/month be paid out as much winning bonuses.
The same goes for the players, the average salary should be kshs 90,000/ month and attractive match winning bonuses be offered.
Let there be a salary fund managed as a trust (maybe by the likes of Anelka) whereby money from this fund is transferred directly into the players and TB staffs bank accounts at the agreed salary rates. EC’s duty should only be to forward the agreed payroll to the trustees of this fund who then effect the payments.

If we can guarantee our players and TB their salaries am sure GMFC can go places. There is a need to move towards a more performance/results oriented contracts.

    Item No. Month/Rate Total
    Players 23.00 90,000.00 2,070,000.00
    Head Coach 1.00 600,000.00 600,000.00
    Deputy Coach 1.00 250,000.00 250,000.00
    TM/Asst. Coach 1.00 80,000.00 80,000.00
    GK Coach/Trainer 1.00 80,000.00 80,000.00
    3,080,000.00
We need 6,160 members to contribute kshs.500 per month into a salary fund to be managed as a sacco /trust.
Be it as a sacco/membership or trust Gor fraternity must realize that they have to guarantee their playing unit & staff their monthly salary in whatever way for the club to become a force in the country/region and continent.

EC please pay the players their salaries bana. Players need to be settled. We cannot afford to start the league poorly. It will cost the team dearly in the long run.

Thank you Brother Mwakio for your bold rejoinder. Personally I have become scared stiff of posting a comment because I am tired of being reminded every now and again that I am making noise yet I did not contribute “even 50 bob” to the OKOA GOR MAHIA Players’ Motivation Fund. Apparently, what was a very noble idea is now being used to vet those who should be heard and those who should just be seen.
