Gor Mahia roots Liberty Academy 8-1

It was football of first class this morning at Nairobi’s City stadium when Gor Mahia met Liberty Academy on a friendly match whereby a total of nine goals were scored. Liberty Academy which toured Ghana last month and narrowly lost 1-2 to AFC Leopards last week found the going extremely tough against a seemingly fluid and relaxed Gor Mahia outfit. Francis Ochola opened the flood gate of goals in 15th minute of play by driving a low shot from inside the box which beat the goalkeeper all the way. Baldwin Ngwa added the second one through a spectacularly taken over head kick inside the box which hit the bottom of the cross bar before crossing the line in the 29th minute. Tonny Onyango headed home an Andrew Ongwae’s cross in the 34th minute before Baldwin Ngwa rapped up the first half root with a low shot after being put through by Zablon Otieno in the 43rd minute.
Technical Director Zedekia Otieno, who was keenly watching his boys while at the bench, introduced an entire new outfit for the second half. It took George Odhiambo only 17 minutes of play to head home the fifth goal at 62nd minute after a well taken free kick just out side the box by Duncan Makori. At 66th minute Peter Mugambi pulled one goal back after a goalmouth melee before Kevin Omondi made it six at 78th minute through fierce drive from the penalty area following a perfect return ball from George Odhiambo. John Kiplang’at scored a brace in the 87th and stoppage time after being put through by Robert Onyango and Ibrahim Kitawi respectively.
Liberty coach Jacob Ghost Mulei had very few words for Gor Mahia. He confessed that the club has very good bench power.
