Gor Mahia seeking financial assistance to travel to Algiers

Gor Mahia are once again seeking assistance from the government in order to make their trip to Algiers. Last time Gor Mahia sought assistance to travel to Cape Town to play Supersport, sports minister Rashid Achesa flatly refused.

Additional reporting from goal.com
Gor Mahia are not sure whether they will honour their final Group D match against USM Alger on August 29.

Goal can reveal that the club is currently in need of Sh6.1m to make the trip to Algiers for the crunch match. However, the Kenyan government is yet to respond to the plea by Football Kenya Federation to purchase return tickets for the Kenyan champions.

Goal have obtained a letter from FKF CEO Robert Muthomi dated August 7 and addressed to the Ministry of Sports PS Kirimi Kaberia requesting for purchase of tickets for the trip.

“Football Kenya Federation wishes to inform you that Gor Mahia is scheduled to travel and honour a Caf Confederation Cup Group stage match against USM Alger in Algeria on August 29, 2018.

“The team currently occupies the top of the table and will be a crunch match where a good result will mean the team qualifies for the quarter-finals. It has been close to thirty years since a Kenyan club qualified for the quarters of the Caf tournament and this milestone will bring a lot of national pride to the country.

“The purpose of the letter is to kindly request for the Ministry’s assistance in the purchase of air tickets for the team to enable them travel and honour the important assignment.”

But when contacted, Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda confirmed that they are yet to receive a confirmation note from the government on the same. “We have not received any response from the government in regards to the request from FKF and time is now running out. We want the team to leave on Monday and as things look, we might have problems travelling.

“At the time the above letter was written the fare was Sh135, 000 (per ticket) and that was the cheapest flight (Turkish Airline) and now the same airline has risen to Sh156, 000 as of yesterday (Monday).

“And with no response up until now, we don’t know what the ticket will cost in the next few days. We need a confirmation whether they (government) are giving us this tickets as requested by the federation or not so that we can plan on our own.”

Aduda added, “We are going out there as the representatives of the country and not as a club and the support of the government is crucial. The cheapest ticket as at Monday to Algiers was Sh156, 000, and with Gor Mahia sending a team of 30 people, that adds up to Sh4.6m then include accommodation for three nights at Sh1.5m.”

Aduda added the visit of Rayon Sports and Gor Mahia’s recent away matches in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru, had eaten to the club’s coffers. “We paid tickets for match officials from Angola and Zimbabwe for the Rayon match. People should know that we are not crying because we have money but because the money is already used.

“Playing matches outside Nairobi is also eating into our budget. We played two matches in Kisumu, and returned to Nakuru and this required money to have the team in camp.”

It is also in order for the office to let the fans know the income and expenses of the club. This makes it easier for the fans to assist. Last time they asked for money from the ministry but had almost the entire EC in the travelling contingent. In other words the non-playing travelling persons were more than players and that didn’t make sense. How much of the 27m has been given and how much used? How about the Sportpesa 3m as well as the monies given by Sonko. Gate collections? How much have we gotten in the last few matches and also how are they marketing the upcoming Derby to get some handsome pickings.

The EC should know that soccer is now a business and if you don’t have any business acumen in you then it becomes tough to run a team like Gor

A breakdown of this monies would do

What Dan is proposing here on financial management is the right way to go. One wonders why our EC does not think in such lines. A mere blogger articulates a constructive financial management plan with so much ease. Why can’t more than a dozen heads put together come with something even half as good? Then you hear those of them masquerading in this site as bloggers start bleating: mara complaints, mara whining…..Disgusting.

hehehe…BB…! to complain endlessly witbout solutuon helps nothing. to rise up and effect solutions to complaints is what i advocate. in other words leadership is lacking in the fanbase..i love the fans who complained about fielding in a match then got the coach and forcefully gave him a winning line up some years back..simply put ACTION not endless mourning that actually wears all of us down leaving us feeling hopeless about what we love.

  • While I admit that Gor needs alot of money to operate, EC must do one thing for an effective cry of help; Transparency
We would like to see a club audit. Gor Mahia is not a govt instution. The govt help can only be sentimental, not everyone in govt supports or like the club in the fast place. Gor EC has time and again failed to account to the fans. The recent shenanigans of selling players under the table tops all scandals.
    Take all these projects with plus a solid fan base that can easily fill Nyayo every other sunday;
    1. Gor sacco
    2. Gor bread
    3. Gor water
    4. Gor Mpesa
    I’m sure there are more.
All these projects are failing cause of one thing, accountability. So how long before the govt also gets tired of seeing the begging bowl. This is what Trump refers to as Sh****ole. Begging while sitting on a goldmine.
Let me remind EC and hencehmen once more, corruption will get you nowhere. Even in kpl you will not last long. Bring the African scene and things totally change. You will soon find yourself in a quagmire trying to defend the undefendable.
    Should Gor fail to attend the match in Algeria the blame squarely falls on the EC doorstep. Mismanagement has led to the club to it’s current position. The greed to win every tournament has not worked and when it did it’s only the EC and their henchemen who know where the money went. I for one would like to give money but first;
    – how did you spend the tournamnent monies.
    – how did you spend the Fifa cc caf 2018 monies.
    – why did the club ‘sell’ Walusimbi yet it had no obligation to do so.
    – When did Gor start tasking players with the club’s KRA obligations
    – Gor is using money from all sources, what are the official club accounts and is the club audited, for example how much was paid for Walusimbi. was it 3m or 5m or 13mill… for surely even your homeguards do not know!
    – Gor is in account(and we all know) saying KC action was illegal, so which EC member/s made it possible?
    – Did the EC liaise with the fan base wether ‘selling’ Walusimbi was the best option or does the EC answer to itself and it’s henchmen.
    – How much are EC members paid and how were these figures arrived at?
So when you turn around and ask me for money how should I respond?

  • Lack of accountability is your undoing. Yes the government ought to chip in but the club should also let the world know its income viz avi its expenditure that way you will win more trust and also justify your financial position as a club. But saying that we consumed more because of away matches is not enough.
Furthermore you’ve had this timetable long enough, was it really difficult to work out a budget early for the whole tournament and then make financial pleas early enough, knowing very well you were suppose to honour all the matches.
You failed in the planning phase of this tournament

I can do the accounts for free, and also advise on tax obligations all for free, why university students? And I believe thousands of us supporters can do it, the question is the EC keen on that?

@ JamriAmbo beyond anf reasonable doubt Gor Mahia will qualify for CAF quarters no matter the results in Algiers. The predictable results is we can win , draw or get beaten by host USM but Rayon will be held back by Yanga. Be silence and just observe.

Koko mangeny as if we are facing relegation. Why cant we just be gentle and enjoy supporting Gor Mahia. The last time I checked, we have only lost 3 matches out of close to 30. That’s a very good record by any degree of measure. However the venom spit by some of us here is sickening to say the least. Let us avoid the culture of abusing players, TB or even EC. I do not think any one of these parties mean bad for the club.

Meanwhile report reaching me is that Fakafaka omoto e bade. Congrats to the boys. Noice markers at least we shall have some calm until the next time we draw or lose.
