Gor Mahia seeking to bolster the attack

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has told Capital FM that the club is in contact with Rwandese striker Meddie Kagere and is weighing options to bring him back. Kagere was one of the pivotal players in Gor Mahia’s record breaking season in 2015 and scored what is arguably the goal of the year, a gem against Nakuru All Stars.

“We are talking with Meddie and also consulting with the coach because he has to be involved. Meddie is interested in coming back and we are also interested in bringing him back but it will depend on the dynamics of the coach. We are definitely looking for a striker,” Rachier said to Capital FM.

Gor Mahia are hamstrung by the fact that the quota of foreigners is limited to five per team and Gor Mahia has already reached that quota. And all five foreign players are playing well.

“For sure it is giving us a headache if we get in any foreigner because we already have five. We are quite satisfied with the performance of those we already have, but one may be sacrificed in the interest of having a balanced team,” Rachier added.

The addition of Kagere would create a formidable partnership upfront. Tuyisenge and Kagere are familiar with each other’s style of play and would mesh together quickly. Tuyisenge has a phenomenal strike rate of six goals and seven games.  Yet he does not think he has hit his best form yet.

“I did not participate in Gor Mahia’s pre season due to injury. I came in when others had already played several matches and I have had to play catch up. But I am happy so far with my form but I am yet to hit my peak,” he said in a TV interview on Supersport.

Tuyisenge went on to state that the welcome he received from Gor Mahia players and officials was one of the factors that has enabled his success at the club

“They welcomed me well, encouraged me when I was still out injured and now that I am playing often, they are giving me all the support.”

“Mine now is to work hard to improve and help my team. I know everybody wants me to perform better than Olunga (Michael) and (Kagere) Meddie, but I will need some time to get to my best. However I can also add that I am surprised by my scoring record to this point.” he continued.

Meanwhile former Gor Mahia striker Timothy Otieno has categorically stated that he has no intention of returning to Gor Mahia.

“My form had been affected by an injury and by the time I came back, Nuttall made it clear that he did not need my services. He even suggested that I go on loan to  Muhoroni Youth but when I declined, he told me categorically that he will not use me and it got so bad we were not even on talking terms. I was therefore glad when the opportunity came to join Rangers and I do not intend to go back to Gor Mahia anytime soon,” he said according to betway.co.ke

At this point Otieno who has scored four goals this season and won player of the month in March, has stated that he will either join AFC Leopards in June or stay at Rangers to complete his loan spell.

    To Timothy Otieno.
The real reason you were hardly fielded was because of the red hot form of Olunga-Kagere-Abondo.
You were given your chance during East and Central championship and a handful of league games but you did not measure up to the required stands.
Improve on your overall performance and attitude if you hope to make it to the top.4 goals so far is nothing to write home about!!
Since you say you are not in a hurry to rejoin Gor,it’s in order….all the best at ingwe or Posta. ..!!

  • I may be wrong to state that Aucho is one of the pillars in Gor Mahia’s midfield as currently constituted. We paid top dollars for him and so there is no chance in a million that the coach could contemplate dropping him for anyone in Africa. Maybe in Europe in the name of Paul Pogba, Aturo Vidal, Sergio Busquet, Coqueline or Ngolo Kante. Therefore it’s ingenious for one to entertain such thoughts hiding behind the veil of airing an opinion. It’s actually criminal in our football palance to think of selling let alone releasing your best player without any adequate cover. I therefore would like to put forward the following suggestions- all our current foreign players are above average if not good and would like to see all of them fulfill their contractual agreements with the club. Kagere had his chance in the sun and we all know of his exploits. For now I say a big no to dropping any of the current 5 foreign players in the name of accommodating Kagere. Let us look for strikers locally, after all Olunga was an average player in his previous 2 clubs before he joined Gor Mahia. The Lady Luck may smile on us again and we may just unearth a new gem if we traverse the football depth in Kenya with genuine intent and precision of a heart surgeon. In my considered opinion, non of the current top flight strikers in the SPL are worth giving a chance in Gor Mahia. This opinion is informed by the fact that we just saw how Musa and Shakava pocketed Ochomo in our match against Muhoroni Youth. Don’t forget that currently he is the top most striker in SPL and he was in a hot streak before he met his Waterloo in Musa and Shakava. It’s therefore important that we don’t concentrate our search in the SPL. May The Almighty guide your eyes and thoughts as you embark on your search.

Aucho is undroppable may be Sibomana since he has been relegated to the bench by on form Macello.

  • Aucho is the midfield general in the team and if you drop him, who will control the game and ensure that enough and pinpoint passes gets to the strikers for them to score? My take is that we find local strikers and motivate them the way the club did with olunga

  • Timothy, I do believe Nutall did give you some play time, two you could have proved yourself in training. Nutall is gone so if you believe you are better than akina Jausenge then why don’t come instead of whinning. Pole during your time Engineer and Lwanda Magere were a class act leaving a results oriented coach, like Nutall, with little option but to field them. May I draw bloggers and youth players attention to the early years of club legend & 1987 Mandela winning captain Austin “Makamu” Oduor. The nickname Makamu came about coz he was always an understudy to either Mike “Machine” Ogola, JBO/ “Vigo” Otieno for a considerable time before breaking into the team. Now when one of my favourite players did break into the first team he became one of the greatest central defenders for club and country. Thank-you FN a true man of principle who would not be manipulated by players, Jakom/EC or even sponsors.

  • Anybody who was keen to watch what was the build up to our two goals in kisumu would never ever suggest an Aucho drop…unless you were dancing and singing in the stands and so you have no idea how the goals were scored. According to that match, gor mahia strikers, George ‘BlackBerry’ and Jacques Tuyisenge, capitalised from the central midfield flare, which pundits described as Brazilian flare, to tap the ball home for the goals which were also described in soccer Africa, an African league show on supersport TV, as the best goals of the week. If you were keen, you realise that Ernest Wendo was playing as a holding midfielder without venturing forward until his sent off allowing his partner Aucho to play forward as an offensive midfielder and the formation worked on both halves. Let’s begin with the first goal….it is Karim who picks a loose ball from the mid, controls it going forward to find Aucho who quickly finds speedy BlackBerry as Aucho races towards the curve BlackBerry finds him again and with BlackBerry sandwiched between two defenders Aucho makes a simple but precise flick to find a fighting berry who then bury the ball past Shikalo. Second goal also built from the center, it’s Wendo’s ball to a lanky Aucho who quickly realises Tuyisenges adventure into the box and quickly finds him. With only Muchika to beat, the marauding forwards cleverly toss the ball over a diving shikalo to find the back of the net. Guys it’s like Aucho is the best attacking midfielder we never new because those times Nuttal mostly played Abondo behind olunga and kagere while gatusso and Aucho were pla defensive. Last season gor was known to capitalise on wing crosses from Nizigiyamana and siboumana and because of tall strikers they succeeded. This time the Brazilian flare seem to have stopped depending on wing crosses. You even realise most of the crosses went begging.

  • Aucho is the Engine of GM,the central cog on which all 11 wheels rotate and to drop him is like parking the rally car in a garage,he can’t and won’t he released. If a foreigner has to be sacrificed it would have to be either Sibomana or Walusimbi since both are originally left fullbacks with walusimbi having been pushed forward into an attacking role due to his versatility.Marcelo is young & has covered that position well so one of the would be sufficient in order to added much needed firepower upfront in Kagere.Likely candidate though is Sibo going by recent form, also out & out local strikers worth wearing a kogalo jersey are Kiongera & though many are unaware Ovella Ochieng of Kariobangi Sharks could as well be the next Olunga if given a chance in GM but mwendwa might not sell him.Lastly Timothy can’t handle pressure,he better remain @ posta rangers snc ingwe is no better he will crumble if he doesn’t inculcate a string character

  • Oswozo, hapo umegonga ndipo. This Timothy Otieno, who is he! Who knew about him before he joined Gor Mahia? Olunga, as good as he was never at one time spoke so arrogantly about the club that gave him a name and a platform to make that name. Even when he was angling for a more lucrative move abroad, he stayed grounded. Kagere did the same! The best striker in the SPL, Jacque Tuyisenge just gave one of the most humble, compost and brilliant interviews during Mchakanchaka Show on Super Sport. He didn’t even have those fancy hairdos that are favored by many average footballers. To, Timothy, Discipline, Humility, Dedication, hard-work and discipline will always overide natural talent. Haujafika and by the looks of things hautafika. Just ask Erick Masika, Timona Wanyonyi and Kasaya about their accomplishments since they left Gor Mahia to join Efusi!!! None! Meanwhile Jeri Jagoal and Musa stayed patient, disciplined and dedicated to the course and will go down in the annals of history as one of the Kogalo legends/greats (el Capitan). Hata hawatachoka kuinua mavikombe especially with the sponsorship on board. Erick Masika was at one time Musa’s defensive partner at Gor Mahia and earned a National Team call up before him but look who is smiling now! Musa of course! He is in the National team and is the best defender in SPL. Efusi is the worst career path for any player from Gor Mahia. Ask those who have gone there before you. Your case shall not be any different. My advice to any player: Play for the Badge on your chest and the name at the BACK shall be noticed!!

  • @La pastre I don’t understand you. You seem to be mixing up a yes and a know!! You say no foreigner should be dropped and the same time you insist no local based striker in SPL currently is worth gor mahia. Now if you appreciate that Gor needs to add a striker, then which do we go??!!! Drop a foreigner for a foreign striker or what? As you answers me remember no striker in SPL currently is worth gor mahia, according to you.

  • Well said Otieno Timothy. Just continue sulking. Nuttal is gone many months. Gor is different. Players come and Go. You will need Gor whether you go to Rangers, AFC or even abroad. Learn from the other boys who think they cannot be back eg Kevin Omondi, where is he.

Learn from those who know this world rotate eg Ali abondo, Meddie willing to be back, Gatuso. Gor has always been willing to help players rejuvenate their careers. just be careful.

  • so as one recommends for Aucho to be droped, my questions is who will feed Kagere with the balls to score, because as it is, Aucho seems to be fulcrum in the center of the pack where GM are now launching their raids on the opponent. Always be careful you with your opinion

  • @ Janam please stop and dont even mention Aucho that opinion is urs and should be respectd at all cost but am sory we dont respect ******. innocent wafula is a kenyan lets get him Id and we will be good to go Kagere is a working machine and has speed we cant afford to lose him again let welcome him back.

  • I am surprised that someone can advocate for Aucho to be dropped, he is the engine of that midfield. I would also be hesitant to drop Sibomama as Marcelo is not yet secured on a long contract and we all know how agents can mislead young players who are just being hyped. If someone must make way for Kagere then possibly Walusimbi simply because at least we can people within the team to replace him otherwise I see no reason for tampering with the team now that it is getting its grove back.

  • Sylvaonyi, in simple terms- to traverse the breath and length of the football depth means to go to all corners of this country looking for football talent excluding the SPL as we are already aware of the talent available here. We may just get luck and discover/unearth a gem/new talent. That’s if we are interested and keen to find a striker. Thank you.

  • Timothy oh Timothy….We know u will read this,… thats why we are directly talking to you. I do agree with u that Nutall gave u very little chance. But can we blame him? Every coach has his policies and philosophy. Nutall’s seemed to have been….’if it aint broken why fix it’? He would hardly change his 1st eleven. But FN is gone and we now have ZM. Perhaps u have been too buzy scoring goals for poster rangers to notice that ZM rotates his players. So we believe that your best chance is at Kogalo. Come back if and when they beckon.

Very interesting , I like the kind of fatherly and energetic efforts all who have contributed here today have shown. I wish we could keep it this way only please lets not mention this or that player to be dropped; it has a direct demoralizing effect on such players. Otherwise good job people like Lepastre, Silvaonyi. Wheres Jasego in all this?

  • It is normal for players to want to play all the time even when they are not clicking. This is because they are employed to play. The difficulties they face are however, luck of fitness, disciplinary issues, and the coach not liking them for various reasons they know to themselves. But the most difficult they face is not accepting that a team mate could be performing much better than them. Probably Timothy Otieno encountered one or two of the above. My humble contribution on this matter however is, that he does not take an oath of not returning to Gor,of course it is not a must. I think it is a disaster to even suggest that he can only play for those other Teams because of what happened in the past. Football is about money, suppose Gor K’Ogallo offers a good contract, would he still reject based on the passed event? I am also not suggesting that it must be Gor. Let me end up by saying, Football is about competition both on the pitch and fighting for a place to be on the pitch. Lastly, only eleven can be on the pitch playing at any given time.

  • LA pastre I for sure agree with you. Good idea but that is a longterm strategy. Not for June which is next month. For me I leave it to the coach and EC to do it but they should also do it with a lot of care!!

  • I see Sibo being mentioned. Truth is that the coach seems to want two complete/competent players in each department and not playing one player like Nutall. So in my view(its time to mention names) Walusimbi’s position is more precarious since local talent;two(were and Johanna and maybe ovella) can be found.I must admit all foreign players have raised their bar and we are yet to see more before mid season.

Personally I think we are good to go with the current five foreigners till the end of the season. Had Meddie’s heart really been in Gor he would not have stuck to his coditions knowing how hard up we were financially. What if his move to Egypt had materialized? Would we still be talking the same language? No.

On Siboumana let Marcello give him the compe so that he can know there are other players who can take his place. Currently Ze Maria has let every player apart from JaUsenge know that there are options for their positons . That’s the difference between him and FN

  • Kagere is a good player he played for the team with whole heart but he was unable to make a critical decision and he showed is heart was somewhere else all the foreign player none as performed below par so far so we should reward them for they love of the team when we had no sponsor they still came back and played for kogalo the bench can look for a striker locally as they did with engineer sio lazima from a foreign country and also let remember one thing kagere is in his sunset years we should look for long term solution
