Gor Mahia set for 2017 KPL Kickoff

The long awaited start of the 2017 Kenya Premier League is finally here. Gor Mahia are set to take on newly promoted Kariobangi Sharks at Thika stadium on Sunday. Gate charges will be Ksh 300.

Last season Gor Mahia started the season poorly. By the time Ze Maria arrived, Gor Mahia were in the relegation zone.

“We have learned from what happened last season. This year our aim is to start positively and keep the momentum going till the final day. Our target is to reclaim the title and we know it won’t be easy,” said Musa Mohamed to Capital Sports.

Musa Mohamed knows it will be no easy task against the newly promoted side. .

“We have prepared well and the confidence in the team received a huge boost when we won against Tusker last weekend. We are focused for this match which we don’t expect to be easy. Sharks is a good team and they will be coming to prove a point against us. Nonetheless, our aim is nothing but victory,” he said to Capital sports.

Already another newly promoted side, Nzoia United has registered a chock 5-2 win over champions Tusker. And Kariobangi Sharks will be buoyed by that result and will be attempting to replicate it. They already beat AFC Leopards in a friendly.

Gor Mahia’s attack will be led by the returning Timothy Otieno whose form of late has seen him preferred in attack along with Jacque Tuyisenge.

The league is going to be difficult.  Due to the late start and due to a shortage of available stadia, There will be multiple double and triple headers which will only ruin the playing surfaces. And there will be more midweek matches than usual. Whichever team is able to adapt to the poor playing surfaces and crammed schedule will be the succesful team.

Hope our boys will not underestimate the sharks. Nzoia just canned Tusker 5-2. Let’s not allow one of these newbies to pull a Leicester. Go Go Go boys.

Teams that get promoted are normally very dangerous especially in their first few games because they are out to prove that they made it to the top on merit….however, if we play like we did against Tusker last weekend, we will surely carry the day.All the best to the team!!

  • Let us rise above Brewkenge and prove a point to Mwendwa Sharks. Overconfidence will simply let us meet Tusker’s destiny. Now am convinced that beating Tusker is not reason enough to be confident of bagging this KPL trophy. Those guys were clueless on the pitch, even their trademark penalties could not go past the Nzoia FC keeper.
Their goalkeeper is yet to familiarize himself with the goal-line rules & technology. And what a generous defending from Brewkenge! At that rate, relegation will beckon them at every match day.

  • Arocho do say that ukitaka kumwua nyani usimwangalie kwa uso utamwonea huruma. This is what Tusker did to Nzoia, Gor should thrash Sharks mercilessly or else they will be surprised by this team from the grass.Piga mtu bila huruma and avoid being overconfident.
