Additional Reporting from the Nation
Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have landed a second shirt sponsorship deal with Crown Beverages Limited.

The two parties are yet to make public the details of their sponsorship, but Daily Nation Sport understands it is a Sh15 million deal expected to run for the next two years with an option of extension.

The deal was set to be unveiled on Thursday at the club offices at Nyayo Stadium, but the event was cancelled at the eleventh hour due to logistical concerns raised by Gor Mahia’s main shirt sponsors SportPesa.

Confirming the deal, club chairman Ambrose Rachier said that all was set to for the announcement yesterday, and that the delay was occasioned by a few issues that need to be cleared with SportPesa.

“We were ready to do the unveiling but we realised there are two or three issues that need the input of the main sponsor,” said Rachier.

“As you know, they (Crown Beverages) are going to be co-sponsors so we need to agree on minor things such as where their logos will be placed on the shirts, the sizes of those logos, among others.”

“They have offered us a good deal but we are trying to push them to increase the amount so that is the other reason we have decided to put it on hold. We may do the announcement together with the coach’s unveiling when he arrives.”

The walls were draped in red banners of Crown Beverages together with the club official green banners, and a few club fans had arrived to witness the unveiling at the club’s offices.

This new deal comes barely a week after the 15-time Kenyan champions unveiled online betting firm SportPesa as their shirt sponsors to a tune of Sh65 million a year.

Crown Beverages Limited is a regional beverage making company whose Kenyan depot is based in Ruiru.

The company’s agreement with Gor Mahia is to the effect that club helps them market the Crown Lager brand which has a bigger presence in Tanzania.

  • what a lie, is this simply meant to cool the tempos. How do you push for an increase in the day meant to unveil the sponsor. So what were they doing during the negotiation earlier?
What Rachier is basically sayn is that he did not know Gor had a main sponsor.
