Gor Mahia sink in Tunisia

Gor Mahia lost to Esperance de Tunis by a score of 0 to 5. In general, Gor Mahia played well in the first half. But conceding a goal on the stroke of halftime left Gor Mahia having to chase the game in the second half. This left them very open at the back and Esperance capitalized.

Esperance came into the second half a more determined side. Youthful striker Haithem Jouni who replaced Yannick Djeng in the line-up did most of the damage scoring three goals.

The second goal came about when he was left wide open at the far post. A decoy run saw Gor Mahia defenders focus on the central attacker leaving Haithem Jouni wide open. The cross was delivered perfectly to the far post and Jouni rose to tap the ball home.

The third goal came after a through ball on the left flank reached an Esperance striker who had made a good run. He cut inside past the slipping David Owino, placed a precise ball right at the feet of Jouni who simply tapped home.

Which brings us to another aspect of Gor Mahia: There was a lot of slipping and sliding amongst Gor Mahia players which means they did not have football boots that were appropriate for the surface.

Another goal occurred when burly Camerounian makoun muscled his way into space, and shot towards goal. His shot was parried by David Juma. But it was met by two wide open Esperance players. Harrison Afful calmly slotted home the rebound. There was no Gor Mahia defender in sight because no one chased the rebound.

The last goal was a typical breakaway goal that may have been offside. With Gor Mahia throwing everyone into attack, an Esperance attacker was left wide. The through ball to him was precise and placed him in good position for an easy goal.

It would have been worse. The same scenario played out five minutes later but this time David Juma pulled off a spectacular save.

Gor Mahia’s attempts in the second half came about via Kevin Omondi who cut inside from the left and fired goalwards. His shot was saved by the Esperance keeper. A well taken free-kick by Rama Salim seemed destined for the net but the alert Esperance keeper once again saved the day. In injury time, substitute Patrick Oboya took on a defender and beat him with a mazy step-over dribble. But his resulting shot went well wide.

Dan Sserunkuma and George Odhiambo were for the most part marked out of the game. The ball never reached them as Gor Mahia could not make inroads in the final third of the field.

We still love you team. You are our pride.
I don’t know who shall be sacrificed but Oboya, Rama, K14 and BB really should be given more games, barring injury.

My question to the joy riders: where is your conscience as you sit on the stands watching the boys go down 5-0 yet you know you were behind the tickets racket that enabled you to raise the KES 100,000 plus to enable you raise “your own air ticket” for the flight to Tunisia? You guys acheni hiyo mipango ya kando. This corruption is just stinking and AR is either abetting it or is absolutely helpless.

Winning or loosing is never really the issue. The most important thing is that we gave our best. The quality of this team is never in doubt. Our boys are good. Lets use this as a stepping stone to achieve more greatness.I honestly blv we hv nothing 2 be ashamed of.Just improve on weak areas and we will be in for a great season.

  • Forget champions league for now…..target is to win the league, win the cecafa kagame cup and dstv top eight cup.! That’s all we are asking for this year. Just 3 trophies…..

Next year lets start shopping for central defenders and a lethal striker in central and southern Africa.

@2 Barefoot i don’t understand what you are trying to bring up. Be a patriotic fan of Kogalo! You mean you wanted those your joy riders to play in the pitch? I find your claims baseless. please style up! Let us congratulate the entire team despite the loss. They have worked hard. Being eliminated is normal in foot ball and should not scare us. Let’s now forcus ahead and avoid blame games.

  • Guys.. I completly agree with city stars Nigerian coach when he said that Kenyan players are skilled but need to buff up like the Nigerians. Who remembers Henry Motego? His was buff, strong and skilled. He took Breweries to Mandela cup finals. Those are the type of players we need. Mambo ya wakina Keli, Salim and SSerenkuma tu wachane nayo. Those kind of players will only win you the league and Gotv cup. Once upon a time Nigerians in Lagos confused Harambee Stars players to ball boys

@George Ochoro kindly manage your frustrations quietly. Are you trying to feign ignorance of the fact that some officials were behind the fake tickets racket? Did you consider the timing of the fake tickets racket more so soon after the officials were advised that they would have to fund their own tickets if they wished to travel to Tunis? Is it morally acceptable that some official sits there watching the boys struggling yet he or she knows very well that he/she is robbing those boys. We are questioning people who are exploiting the lack of mechanisms to hold them accountable; people who are exercising impunity in looting from a community club that has no other means for sustenance; people who are not ashamed of the open theft and you dare tell me to style up. Should I style up when demonizing theft? You are amazing. With all due respect, I am sorry that I have no choice but to treat your objection as hogwash. How unfortunate that a man like you should have a soft spot for looters. Style up mwenyewe.

What’s his sin if I may ask.For crying out loud, the simply stated obvious facts.Who does’nt know about this looters turned joy riders who are busy milking this club dry.Why so much bitternes when Ngala and Kilo, the well known thieves, are put in there rightful place? Let go of the resentment and let @Barefoot bandit speak the truth.I’m tempted to think that you two are part of this corrupt cartel and that explains why you are so defensive.

seize fire bloggers The Bandit guy has just expressed his views.please bloggers though we want to reduce the club expenditures ,players could not be sent to tunisia without even some officials that we are trying to economize the use of club funds, let us be realistic at times ,there must be some officials to go with players in this away matches even Eparance came with over 50 people and i think it is there club that catered for the extra 20 people ,they were on club duties let us not all the times be on the club officials neck even on some things that are obvious.

Alot has been said including physique and joyriders but the best thing we can do is to encourage the team . They must be feeling wasted but we still love them. We all wanted to win and so was the opponents. Finger pointing will not take us anywhere. We still have Top8, TPL, GOTV and CECAFA to play for. We still have the most loved team in Kenya if stadium attendance and gate collection is a measure. I also believe we need to tone down our comments as we need to entice a new sponsor without which most of our wishes will fly over the roof

Ja N’gwech stick to issues. Kindly consider this line from the article…. “Which brings us to another aspect of Gor Mahia: There was a lot of slipping and sliding amongst Gor Mahia players which means they did not have football boots that were appropriate for the surface”. Those are not my “irrelevant” words.

The question is: Was Esperance supposed to provide our players with the appropriate footwear? Our TB obviously noted this but they were helpless because the right boots were simply not available. Now could the team fail to purchase all the necessary team equipment if money was available? Ask yourself why money was not available. As for my posts being irrelevant that is interesting and thanks for the information. Talk of corruption fighting back!

@jack omollo you cannot compare esperance finances with gor mahia..that is a club that almost spends at least one million dollars on one player every summer, they can afford 50 people gor cannot

@ cafootball, i agree with you. But trust me,politics would’nt take us anywhere. These critics are the same people who voted for the current office now they are turning against them.Anyway i understand that politics is everywhere in Kenya, take for instance last time almost everyone critised Jerry ja goal for his poorperformance but today what happened? I thank God he was not there i dont know what they would have said!! I personally like the way our boys are playing be it not for Tunisia being international category, we would have carry the day! Let us use this blog to give constructive suggestions for our lovely club, the way people Jakoyo are expressing their ideas is very good but not dwelling over an issue a million times!! Mara fake tickets mara freeriders, hivi tutaenda mbele kweli?

I think @Barefoot Bandit is pointing out at the rot that is in our football management from the FKF to the clubs, n if radical actions are not effected then we can as well forget to our teams going far in the continentals.

It is apparent we are still far much behind the nations that take their football seriously n am afraid the gap wont reduce anytime soon with the likes of Kilos, Aladwas n Nyamweyas of this world running our game!

@Oduor12 the same esperance was beaten 5-0 by TP Mazembe so it’s not about a well-paid coach. Even Wenger and Fergie or Moyes were given 5+ but life continues. By the way the players always adopt to the game situation and not necessarily what the coach said
