Gor Mahia squad: Taofiq dropped, Emuge back

The Gor Mahia squad for the first leg of the 2015 KPL season was named yesterday. Missing from the squad is Ghanaian striker Taofiq Zakari. Meanwhile giant Ugandan defender Israel Emuge who at one point appeared to be on the way out has been recalled. Emuge had an injury plagued 2014 season.

As for Zakari, he is being dropped because the club has already reached its allowable quota of foreigners. On January 2, FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya announced that teams playing continental football will be allowed to sign 7 foreigners. Currently Gor Mahia has 9 foreign born players : Simon Pierre, Sibomana, Nigiyizimana, Kagere, Emuge, Dirkir Glay, Walusimbi, Aucho and Zakari. One of these ( either Glay or Pierre) qualifies for residency as a refugee.

According to orgainizing secretary Ronald Ngala, Zakari had been signed as a potential replacement for Dan Sserunkuma as Gor Mahia desperately searched for a goal-scorer. He was assesed by the assistant coaches and deemed acceptable. Coach Nuttall having assesed both he and Olunga deemed them adequate but not outstanding. Nuttall seemingly prefers to keep Emuge as the 7th foreigner.

“The signing was sanctioned by assistant coaches but the influx of better foreign players has complicated the matter” . There are several players who were signed on recommendation of the assistant coaches based on the specification the head coach left behind, Taofiq being one of them because coach needed a finisher” said Ngala

However according to Ronald Ngala, Taofiq has already signed a contract and the club is now obligated to sign him.

“The coach made that decision, the office is now obligated to act in the best interest of the player..so he will stay around until a mutual agreement is reached.” said Ngala

Interestingly, Taofiq played in the match against Kibera Black stars in which Gor Mahia won 3-0 thanks to goals from Sibomana, Kagere and Simon Pierre.

  • Let EC to apply for dual citizenship for Piere and Glay then we will still be within the quota range if they think they cannot be overstretched by wage bill.

  • Bwana admin your explanation is laboured and misleading. By my count, we have registered only 8 eight foreigners minus Toufiq. These are 1. Nzigiyimana 2. Sibomana. 3. Walusimbi. 4. Emuge. 5. Glay. 6. Simone Pierre. 7 Aucho. 8. Kagere. Adding Toufiq will make them to be 9. If Glay and Simone Pierre can play on the refugee visa then adding Toufiq will make us have the agreed number of foreigners that is 7. So I don’t agree with that explanation. As for those (I know it all) external coaches, please give our team a breather. These boys have just but reported back to training. To judge them on the basis of 1 or 2 matches is quite absurd. It makes you look bad in the face of the coaches and those of us who knows one or two things about football. It’s early days guys. What would these know it all (external coaches) be telling LVG of Man United who is still struggling with his formation and is yet to settle on his first eleven well into the season!! Guys, God has a gift for all of us and I would rather we concentrate on what we are good at!!! Gor Mahia has done the best recruitment in ages as I will explain on Saturday. Thank you.

omondi, these guys contributed in one way to make gor champs so I dont think that it is gud to say that u cannot count them. What I dont understand is how keeping him will help him as a player. If he can be loaned to any league whose window is still open will be gud. But just staying without playing competitive matches will destroy his career.

  • Mr Administrator, kindly publish my earlier article. Its this kind of intolerance that we usually complain about. We have registered 8 foreign players for a fact and not 10 as your article states. The players are 1. Glay. 2. Walusimbi. 3. Sibomana. 4. Nzigimana. 5. Kagere. 6. Simone Pierre. 7. Emuge. 8. Aucho. Registering Taofiq would push the number 9. And because as you said it, Simone Pierre and Glay can play on a refugee visa then Taofiq would be the one to make our foreign contingent to be 7!! For how long do you want to block my articles? They are neither abusive nor sensational. I believe their content are always informative as well as educative. I stand to be corrected. I will not change my name so as to have my articles posted because I love Gor Mahia and I’m standing on the right side of history.

I would like to assure Le Pastre and others that your posts are not being blocked. As I have pointed out to others, every now and then, the spam filter holds posts from certain people in a queue. As such you may notice a delay in when your post gets posted.

This happens for different bloggers at various times. But the condition is only temporary. Eventually the spam filter software will realize your posts are not spam and will revert back to posting immediately. Remember that software is not perfect. Again the condition is temporary.
