Gor Mahia start Super cup campaign

Gor Mahia will kick off their campaign in the inaugural Sportpesa Supercup when they take on Jangombe Boys from Zanzibar on Tuesday June 6. Gor Mahia will be seeking to emulate arch rivals AFC who booked a place in the semis by beating Singida United of Tanzania on 5-4 penalties. Compatriots Tusker are out after losing to Yanga also on penalties.

Jangombe finished second in the 2016-2017 Zanzibari league three points behind JKU FC. The last time Kogalo played a Zanzibari side was in 2015 at the CECAFA cup when they beat KMKM 3-1.

Nyangi criticizes Players

Gor Mahia organizing secretary Judith Nyangi has come out against the three players who snubbed a call up to the national team. Tim Otieno, Harun Shakava and Kenneth Muguna all decided not to join the national team that is preparing for the 2019 Africa Nations cup qualifiers.

“As a club, we cannot make some decisions for you, yes we requested Shakava (Haron) to be released, but the other two made decisions on their own. It is not wise to snub a national team for a club duty, especially like this one. It is one decision they might come to regret. Yes, we did not request them to be released, they decided on their own, and in the future, maybe, that might work against them” Nyangi told goal.com.

However former national team coach and current pundit, Jacob “Ghost” Mulee stated that the players made the right choice since they likely would not have made the final squad.

“It is a privilege to play for the national team, and every player wants it, but sometimes it might be a blessing in disguise. Those four players acted with their instincts maybe feeling that they will not make the final squad taking into consideration the competitiveness and quality in the team,” said Ghost to goal.com

Nyangi, leadership entails knowing what to say to the public depending on the occasions. Your comments are more destructive to the career of the players than their actions. At this point an intelligent person would have defended the players in public but admonished them in private. Please learn how to manage a club. The top club officials all over the world protect their players from public backlash but take action outside the field. Do you hear what Ghost said about their action? Chances of these guys playing when the foreign legion, some of who we don’t know their fitness status appear

  • I think when we discuss this Nyangi issue we kind of miss the context of what the real problem is.
For a club to continously have officials running to the media with knee Jerk remarks that have definitely not been okayed by the club management is not only a mark of indicipline but also proof of an absentee Chairman that is only concerned with being the Chairman of something where Gor Mahia in this respect being the unfortunate recipient of that self pursuit.
Each and every serious entity with any conscious intention to move that entity positively from point A to B cannot operate in a situation where officials have no known defined roles and boundaries and the absence of a deliberate coherent and disciplined messaging policy and by who , is indeed an indictment of AR and proof of this being that in his private firm Rachier & Associates he would not allow his Messenger even over his body to speak on behalf of his corporation and y he allows it in Gor Mahia takes me back to my point of someone whose only hell bent is being called Chairman of Something.
Nyangi with all her intellectual limitation and sonko-istic mesmerisations indeed a consequence of our choices but after our choices is now an indictment of a callous , casual , Clueless and gross incompetence of the Chairman
