Gor Mahia take on Mathare

Last season Tuyisenge scored twice as Mathare held Gor Mahia 2-2

This year, Gor Mahia has won easily against teams that typically finish in the bottom half of the league. However they have struggled against top tier teams, losing to Kariobangi Sharks twice and losing to Bandari

They have a chance to redeem themselves when they take on Mathare United on Sunday. The slum boys are confident. They were at the top of the table as of Friday having garnered 13 points from 5 games.

Gor Mahia will be without certain players who are on the injury list. Starting with Francis Mustafa.

“I cannot guarantee their availability. Francis Mustafa has four stitches from the last game meaning he is definitely out, alongside goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch, it is going to be difficult for us. ” said coach Hassan Oktay to goal.com

Kenneth Muguna is still on the injury list. He is now joined by Harun Shakava who sustained an injury last week.

Aside from injuries, coach Oktay is also worried about the blunt attack.

“We have been playing well of late, creating chances which we did not take and now injuries. However we will give our best,” Oktay told goal.

Oktay is full of praise saying he is a good player, vastly experienced and is a good influence on the younger players who are learning from him.

It will be a tough outing against Mathare. Last season they held Gor Mahia 2-2 in the opening leg. Then again in the second leg.

According to the KPL portal, the match is slated for 3pm on Sunday at Kasarani.

On Dennis Oliech

Oktay is full of praise for Oliech stating that he is highly experienced and a good player and is already playing a leading role and acting as a positive influence towards the younger players.

He says there is a remote possibility Oliech may feature against Mathare. But also suggested that Oliech needs at least two weeks to regain match fitness since he has not played competitively for two seasons.

Give Oliech some minutes on the pitch to help him revive his confidence. Good luck.

Ignore the noise makers like Jakoyo who are only out to prophesy doom against Gor Mahia. It doesn’t surprise me that this has come from him. Like the Phoenix, Kogalo will rise again to confound the nay sayers. Glory, Glory,Glory Gor Mahia. Victoria Concordia Crescit!!

It’s going to be a tough game but despite the absence of some dependable players out due to injuries the fringe players can still do the job go Kogalo go and wish you all the best.

Please let’s avoid demeaning terms like “fringe players” coz there is no such players in Gor, it’s so bad
