Gor Mahia take on Mount Kenya

Gor Mahia resume their 2018-2019 KPL campaign at Kasarani on Wednesday. They take on Mount Kenya FC. Its an opportunity for Gor Mahia to move further up the standings and close the distance between them and league leaders Mathare United.

Gor Mahia will be without the towering Humphrey Mieno who has joined Ethiopian side St Georges. He joins Patrick Matasi who joined St Georges earlier this year.

In addition, coach Oktay says that injuries will only compound matters.

“It is not easy playing every other day. Fatigue and injuries are cropping in but we have to keep working,” he said.

Dennis Oliech caused a sensation when he scored his first goal last week. He will likely be in the starting line-up again. An attacking combination featuring the in-form Tuyisenge with Oliech could be one to watch.

Harun Shakava will likely return to the starting line-up after missing the continental encounter due to suspension.

“We are playing a team that has not won this season therefore we expect a tough match this afternoon. Players are motivated and ready to be given another chance to show what they’ve. We want three points at all cost,” said Shakava to the Nation

Former Gor Mahia ace Moses Odhiambo who now plays for Mount Kenya is says his side will not be intimidated.

“It’s a match like any other, there’s no special training for it,” said the player popularly known as ‘Dube”.

On paper it should be an easy match. Mount Kenya are at the bottom of the table with 2 points from 7 matches.

Mount Kenya united was formed by businessman Francis Mureithi after he purchased the rights to Nakumatt FC and renamed the club.

Gor Mahia face CAF disciplinary action

Reporting from goal.com
K’Ogalo have now been fined Sh1m by the Caf Disciplinary Board after some of their key players were involved in indiscipline acts

Gor Mahia have been dealt a big blow after Caf issued sanctions on Tuesday.

The Kenyan champions have been fined Sh1milion by Caf with key players Harun Shakava and Joash Onyango – set to miss the next two Caf matches for alleged indiscipline behaviour during their match against Lobi Stars in Nigeria.

Captain Harun Shakava was involved in a brawl with the opponents’ custodian, with his partner Joash Onyango also reportedly abusing the referee. As a result, the two have been suspended for two more Caf matches.

When reached for comment, club’s deputy secretary General Ronald Ngala says they had anticipated for that and it should act as a lesson to the players. “After they missed last weekend, we anticipated for a tougher action and had been prepared for that.

“However, the fine is too much for the club, we will not appeal the decision by Caf though. It is a wake-up call for our players, they should also learn to behave better in these matches next time,” Ngala told Goal.com.

This means both Shakava and Onyango will not be in the team to face New Star of Cameroon in the return leg of the Caf Confederation Cup on Sunday.

K’Ogalo are carrying a 2-1 advantage going into the fixture and will reach the group stages of the competition for the second season in a row, if they manage a win or a draw of any kind.

We will pay the fine no problem. Now i hope the players learn that we love them by not scolding them or insinuating any deductions from their salaries or match winning bonuses for we know they were fighting for the love of the club crest. Can such understanding be reciprocated by players whenever salaries delay slightly instead of threats to go slow and abscond matches? Mieno transfer poses no loss for Lawrence Juma is world class in that position and Bernard Ondiek is good cover while there is still Kenneth Muguna waiting to gel thereby returning to his devastating best. It will be tough like hell in Cameroon but GM shall fight to progress. Supercup follows immediately after with Simba Fans are already talking as if they have won it owing to their teams meteoric rise lately. GM will remind all and sundry who we are in Dar es Salaam so help us God

How comes our SG never releases any statement but it’s always his deputy? I thought he is the spokesman of the team, together with the Chairman. Just voicing my observation

@Dan Original SG Ben Omondi and Organizing Secretary Judith Nyangi were relegated effectively to “Observer Status” in GM EC. This was after they incited players and opposed everything that was to be done for the benefit of the club. It is a situation similar to a uniformed police officer being stripped of the badge and gun back to “Raia” status…It had to be done or we were going to lose the club completely due to infighting and player incitement by club officials

@Jasego, so it’s an issue of i’d rather die than resign/vacate. Why hold onto an office where you are not adding value anymore?

Exactly they vowed to stay put no matter what…So they hold office on paper but cannot do anything club related…

I wonder how soon Oktay has started to lament about fatigue!! It took Kerr to go through three quarters of the league, play Sportpesa champions, play CECAFA, play the Shield cup quarter way, play CAF Champions league, then revert to CCC almost towards the end of group stages is when he started complaining of fatigue, and ideally it deserved!! But this of Oktay just after six rounds of league and five rounds of champions together with confederation, will he go far really??

Give the Oktay experiment a chance, upto the low key SP Cup, coz despite his “high” certification he has little/no practical experience for GM’s level/calibre. He’s doing his practicals at GM. EC’s obsession with off season transfers also does’nt help.

Oduor12 indulge me abit in what a good coach is. Rarely can any new coach begin his tenure with a perfect record like Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has at Man U. Pep Guardiola started with consecutive draws and a loss and so did Unai Emery at Arsenal before they understood their players and imparted their philosophy. Coach Oktay is trying something very new here that hitherto was unheard of in GM despite our success recently. He is injecting high tempo fluid passing and shifting formation football that requires all players to be as fit as their counterparts in the EPL despite our meagre league resources, training facilities and lack of club gym and nutrition specialist. It has started working too as witnessed on Sunday where we overan Newstars completely in balance of play. We have Won All our Caf home games despite losing all away too a record we plan to rectify this Sunday hopefully. We are also planning to defend all cups like SP and the League. Why then can’t you offer Oktay your full support through thick and thin as we plot a successful season ahead?
