With the Kenya Premier League title seemingly drifting away from reach, the KPL Top 8 might be the last opportunity for Gor Mahia to redeem themselves
from what has been a disappointing season. They will take on Muhoroni Youth in the KPL Top 8 final on Sunday.

With Gor Mahia having inexplicably lost in the preliminary round of the Champions and having lost to second tier side Nzoia United in the GoTV shield, this could be the club’s last chance at silverware.

Coach Ze Maria is under pressure to perform after a series of below par performances. He has had nearly three weeks to work on the weaknesses in the playing unit but he knows Muhoroni Youth will not be easy.

“I don’t think anyone should say it will be easy for us. Any team that reaches the final of any tournament even if it is a one day tournament cannot be underrated; we can only do that at our own peril.” said Ze Maria to Citizen Sports.

Muhoroni have had a lot of internal turmoil with players accusing management of poor treatment. Lead striker Wycliffe Ochomo was suspended indefinitely for abandoning his duties. But Ronald Ngala is aware that

“Muhoroni are a very good side, to qualify for the final they had a fine run scoring four goals and conceding only one. We scored four and conceded none, evidently showing they almost match us strength wise. This means the best prepared team will carry the day,” Gor general secretary, Ronald Ngala offered.

Muhoroni are coached by former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder Tom Juma. The dimunitive midfielder who was known as a tireless box to box midfielder during his playiong days, has vowed that his side will not miss Ochomo.

“Most people rate us the underdogs but we know we are worthy opponents and that’s why we are in the final. We are going for nothing less than a win, names won’t matter here, and it will be a matter of what we do in the 90 minutes.

“We have put the departure of Ochomo behind us. We have Moses Arita and Lwamba Bebeto who are very experienced and capable of getting us goals,” he said.

To get to the finals, Gor Mahia eliminated Ushuru FC 1-0 and beat Tusker 3-0 on aggregate. Muhoroni for their part beat Sofapaka 3-0 and Ulinzi on goal aggregate. Gor Mahia have won this tournament twice, in 2012 and in 2015.

Trophy to nowhere! You don’t qualify for CECAFA or any CAF tournament by winning the Top 8.The upcoming league game against W.Sitima is more important even with our diminshed chances of winning the league. On elections the current EC and the auditor must confirm that ALL DEBTS HAVE BEEN PAID UPTO NOVEMBER 2016. PLAYERS SALARIES,ALLOWANCES, TRANSFER FEES, SAME WITH TB AND ALL CREDITORS e.g training ground fees etc. Let Election Promises/Pledges Have Consequences. PUT ASPIRANTS ON WRITTEN PERFORMANCE CONTRACTS WITH A RECALL CLAUSE FOR FAILURE. FOOTBALL IS ABOUT WINNING TROPHIES NATIONALLY, REGIONALLY AND CONTINENTALLY. MINIMUM TARGETS FOR WHOEVER IS ELECTED IS GMFC MUST 1) QUALIFY FOR EITHER OF THE CAF COMPETITIONS 2) MUST REACH AT LEAST THE SEMIS OF EVERY CECAFA WE PARTICIPATE IN 3) MUST REACH AT LEAST THE 3RD ROUND/GROUP OF EVERY CAF COMPETITION WE PARTICIPATE IN.

  • Apart from this targets for our leaders on Gor’s yearly target; we also need to be told when we can have our own stadium that will also house the club house and a separate training ground. All these should be on Build Operate Transfer model.

In my history as a supporter of Gor Mahia I have never seen such a pathetic team. All teams we had in the past were struggling financially, but this one is loaded with money and their best performance is draws, draws. Quite pathetic

@Jamriambo, you must have started supporting the team recently. There was a time we could not even afford shin guards for every player and we survived relegation on a technicality. A hat used to be passed round for contribution in the stadium. What we now need to put in pce is a proper governance structure

I have been a supporter since Dan odhiambo, goalie , Oduo cobra, lule, thigo’s last days, Ogolla seven million dollar man, ….that’s when and how long I have been a fan. But this team we have today is well funded, we used to say breweries beat us because of money.well ?

  • “The genius what a coach”. And the drama continues. Anyway the chorus has been that we should let the coach do his work. We went down against minnows in Gotv and now Muhoroni has proven that they have read Zimarichwa tactics. Rachier must be enjoying these results. Bure Kabisa.
