Gor Mahia take on Nakumatt

Kogalo will resume their 2017 Kenya Premier league campaign this coming Sunday when they take on Nakumatt. Gor Mahia have been on an extended hiatus. They have not played a competitive match in almost a month. On a positive note, the extended break has given new coach Dylan Kerr an opportunity to assess his players and install his system.

“It’s how we play and perform on the day that matters after our training these past 10 days I believe we are ready to start the fixtures,” said Kerr to sok25east.com

The new coach also understands the pressure to win and the fact that every team wants to beat Kogalo.

“We all want instant results players, chairman, committee members but most of all the fans, but as you know football is not easy especially when everyone wants to win against Gor Mahia,”

Against Nakumatt, Gor Mahia will have to contend with dangerman Kepha Aswani who is among the league’s leading scorers with six goals. Aswani says Nakumatt will not be cowed .

“It is definitely going to be a tough match. Remember Gor Mahia will be playing under their new coach who will definitely want to start on a high. Their morale is also high after their match against Everton, but we have prepared well, it is a match we want to win. We will give our best but the main thing is to take our chances that will determine the outcome of that match said Aswani to goal.com.

Gor Mahia have shown tremendous form when the stakes are high but have often taken their foot off the accelerator pedal when the stakes are lower. After winning the Sportpesa Supercup, they proceeded to lose in their round of 32 GoTV shield.

Coach Kerr will be hard pressed to find a measure of consistency which is badly needed now. There are five teams at the top of the league that are within three points of each other. It is going to be a very competitive race to win the 2017 Kenya Premier league.

The attack should be led by Jacque Tuyisenge. If the match against Everton is anything to go by then the Rwandese striker is quickly rounding back to his form from 2016.

The match will be at Nyayo stadium on Sunday July 30.

  • Another point is that 4 of the top 6 teams are already out of the GoTv hence winning the league is their only hope for silverware and route to 2018 CAF competition. GMFC must wrap up this title early, any slipups will be costly. These are the consequences of lack of structures resulting in loss key players to funny Georgian Div.2 teams and thinking we will make an impact in CAF tournaments. That is like fetching water from the well using a straw basket. EC wake up! Praying for a win.

I think Kogalo’s poor performances are sometimes due to lack of motivation. If the players are motivated, Kogalo should be able to beat anybody. I hope the new coach can get the players psyched.

  • Strikers can you do your work and score on Sunday. How can Kepha Aswani with 6 goals outscore Kagere and Tuyisenge combined in terms of league goals??What is the meaning of this strike rate mediocrity?
