Gor Mahia take on Thika in GoTV shield

Eric Ochieng in action when the teams last met

Having beaten FKF division one side, Shabana FC 6-0 in their previous GoTV Shield match, Gor Mahia now have a sterner test as they take on Thika United in the third round match to be played on Sunday at the City Stadium.

Gor Mahia are keen on defending the title they have won for two consecutive years. And after their loss to Tusker last weekend, Gor Mahia should be in no mood to take chances. However Thika has proven a difficult matchup for Kogalo of late. Their last encounter on June 23 ended in a goal-less draw at Kasarani. The previous match which was on the last day of the 2012 league ended in a 1-1 draw.

Thika have seemingly fallen out of contention in the Kenya premier league will come out all guns blazing as this is their only hope for silverware this season. “Our match against Gor will be very difficult and I will be approaching it with a winning mentality. My players are tired after many matches but I will urge them to enjoy the game since it will be a big stage for them to show case their talents.” said John Kamau, the Thika coach to supersport.

Gor Mahia will be looking to make amends for their below par performance in the last 5 league matches where they have only collected 5 points out of a possible 15. Paul Kiongera who had found a rich vein of form when Bobby Williamson arrived cant seem to find his scoring boots of late. Anthony Akumu is once again blowing hot and cold, while the team as a whole is once again going through a period where they can hardly string more than 3 passes together.  Over the past 3 years, Kogalo usually start the league poorly but finish with a sprint. This year however, Gor Mahia appear to be slowing down exactly when they should be stepping on the accelerator.

They will be counting on their fans to turn out in large numbers. ” I have told my players it will be important to keep their nerves as K’Ogalo have the advantage of the 12th player with their passionate fans.” said Kamau. Kogalo fans will be hoping that the team can regain its winning form which appears to have eluded them of late.

as usuall sita nyamaza… i wish gor all the best. it’s good admin too has noticed the “whoever it may concern passing”. i thnk this will be a good test for gor.
on A. Akumu i thnk this guy has regained his form and on the tusker game he was one of my favourite players.
i take the opportunity to congratulate sserenkuma too, D.Owino kama kawaida. mosoti is a good player but i wish he could learn more from D.Owino. everytime this guy tackles i just tend to panick. my question, can someone tell me whats up with oboya. isn’t this the time gor needs him most. gor juu on sato!! and as much as i critic gor i know the team is stable and strong.

    All the best GM.
Midfield & forwards must improve their passes & coordination.
I always give a Head Coach the benefit of doubt until the “next” transfer season when he has had the chance 2 recruit “his” type of players so despite the expections i will just hope 4 the best bt game yetu inaenda down.
P.S Lets improve our membership structure & avoid unknowns (look at @ AFC) cum the elections. I propose we give our legends a chance i.e Obwaka,Lule,Sianga & Makamu.
Feel free 2 mek ua proposals.

@1,dinga….i beg to difer with you on Mosoti.he doesnt need to learn anything from anyone and certainly not D.owino.Mosoti has been the ever present defender, hard to beat in the air and on the ground, tough on the tackle,no nonsense sweeper or stopper and very rugged old school defender….just what any team requires,no wonder he has been the only ever present defender in all our games!!!

Oswozo@3,i agree with you totally,Mosoti is our hard man in defence, not many players like playing against him. Some of his former team-mates at City stars cried when he left for Gor. Thats how solid and highly regarded he was at City stars.

However,i feel we have lost some momentum in our game.I hope it has nothing to do with pressure and its my prayer that we can regain that lost form this weekend Vs Thika utd and for the rest of the season.

    @oswozo: that he is hard defender is not in doubt. but defenders need intelligence on where the apply such tackles. with the low kpl standards in referreeing mosoti is ur typical good defender but in an international match mosoti would be a liability in this sense;
    1. most of his tackles would be flagged down. in other words he will quickly get a yellow card.
    2. with an experienced side mosoti is the kind of defender i would urge my striker to entice cause he will give my side free kicks just where i want.
    3. his tempermental nature will quickly get him to a fight thus a red card(tusker match was no exeption when he tried to bury Dunga.)
take note that i am not trying to point out wether he was on the wrong or right but simply what the camera caught. that was a poor reaction.
so as you see defender capability is not in doubt. i’m merely talking about adding intelligence to his game.

Kwani when tickets are printed abroad gate collections are not announced?
We are going into the next match & no word on the amount collected in our match verses Tusker!
Over 2 u Bwana & Roselinder u made specific pledges 2 sort out the issue of transparency in particular as regards gate collection.
    What is happening?
Why do announce collections as & when u feel like?

I have seen ManU win a match by making three passes form Van De Ser to Evra then to Rooney for a goal. Never heard anybody complain about that. I have also seen City stars literally stringing passes against ‘stronger’ opponents like Gor/AFC/Tusker/Sofa but unfortunately they are yet to win any match this second leg. Unfortunately the moment we start making 15 passes without the opponent touching the ball then end up losing we will be on the coach, players, EC, Ref and anything we can blame.
At this point in the season winning is the main thing. We play poorly and win we will sing towards TM stature, we play badly and lose it will be heartache or mayhem, we play well and lose three points will be gone. So we have a big choice to make. If we play well and win that’s a big bonus on us. Those who appreciate that football can be cruel actually applauded the team after the Tusker lose and went home whinning. Others (a very small clique) remained waiting for the ref and hurling all obscenities to Matano. So guys whatever trick (legally though) we use to get the three points per game let’s use it. Some coaches even encourage their ball players to dribble within the penalty area with a genuine chance of an infringement resulting in a penalty shot. Heard of Mourinho urging his players to get booked so that they can miss a ‘less tougher’ game in order to mitigate the risk of missing a crucial match.
Best wishes for the boys for the Sunday game

@Dan orig: i don’t thnk it’s just about passing the ball. ur right that passing does not win matches but a team good in passing easily controls the game. gor could not string three passes, this means that tusker could get the ball off gor rather to easily. a team good in passing is tends to be usually hard to score against once they go ahead. secondly as u argue that man u wins with three passes, what ur not telling as is the accuracy of these passes. here the issue is more on accuracy than stringing 12 meanningless passes. check how many passes (vs tusker)meant for the forwards were “to whoever it may concern”. i thnk the point here is accuracy in passing rather than merely playing a passsing game. and yes if gor would have played badly and won we would be happy. here they played badly and lost just as usless as playing good and losing. but my argument in how gor plays is aimed at the african scene rather than the league. with the current form of play that gor is displaying then i am afraid to say that gor will get a shock in the early stages. but just that’s my opinion. lets not be like stars who fail in the group stages of E & Central then tries to convince everyone that they can qualify to the african champions or world cup. if gor cannot master a team like tusker who probably give the best competition in the league then how will we take on the might of africa. needless to say all these teams will be tough and they will all behave like sony while playing at home. wininning the league is important but beating teams like tusker, ulinzi et sofapaka is of equal importance. as M. Ali would say, the fight is won or lost during the training… not on the day of the fight.

As posted on futaa.com today(20/09/13) @ 17:53 hrs gate collections 4 Tusker game were kshs. 1,551,400 from the sale of 1,469 VIP tickets and 4,091 terrace tickets. Thats means total attendance was 5,560 as per given figures.
    Shida kidogo tu EC 1,469 X 500 gives 734,500 & 4,091 x 200 gives 818,200.
    Now 734,500 + 818,200 totals 1,552,700!
Now YAWA will the figures & accounts also be done abroad.
Another reason why we need a full time FIN & ADMIN MGR.

*******************Bloggers i really hate jerys tendency of just kicking high balls infront without apurpose and he knows very well that our strikers cant cope with high balls.this guy the coach should start altering him with mapunda just like other players are altered we should not trust him so much within the sticks at this time of the league.sometimes the coach should do the necessary just like the other departments, otherwise we might fail like last year.

  • Those who think that Mosoti is a faul prone defender r missing the point.when did mosoti red carded last. I dont think that this season mosoti has had a red card & what happens is that Mosoti plays hard but safe.

Hey blogers, this is the time to encourage our players, critism of individual players is unwarranted at such a time.
Football is a mind game, i hope your mental strength is up to date and that our strikers will not become jittery infront of goal.
Give it your all men, we are behind you 100 percent.

  • @ODUOR12 i have to agree with you today on the EC being inept. The numbers i saw at the stadium can only be compared to one game last season. The final game where we collected 5.5 million. I remember last season, we collected more than 2 million repeatedly with much lower attendance.

There is someone robbing Kogalo. There is a thief in Kogalo.

  • Kindly lets speak the truth, our team is lacking finishing power like a champion. when you are running a race, you should have that finishing power to help you beat the opponents. What Gor is lacking is that Energy. lets take for instance our game with Tusker, what was lacking was that finishing power of a champion. This is the time that a good striker or any other good player saves the team. This is what has been seen with Owino and Akumu, to me most of our players lacks the finishing power. Our team concentration levels is also very low and that’s why we conceded that silly penalty against Tusker. Jerry has been very good I do agree but it is time that the coach should tell him to improve his concentration level. He should command the defense as an army general tell them what to do. He is also the captain, he should use that power to tell the coach when something is wrong in the pitch. The two Bobbies are doing good job but they should study the pitch and make changes in time to avoid regrets. This is what was seen with the case of Angelo, he is young and good but this time we should concentrate on winning not trying players. This is not the time to blame referees, we will blame after winning the trophy. Lets give the boys the support at this tense moment and I believe in God and in faith we will make it to Canaan. GO KOGALO GO.

  • i shy away from blogging but reads all your posts lads i have a feeling our nice club is going to the dogs if the following is not checked before the end of the season
    1. theft from gate collection by lets the people i call ‘executive’
    2. the TB is nt that aware of which is the best formation for the playing unit we have @le pastre would be best placed to guide me here
    3. hooliganism , which i feel is first blown out of proportion for fans are not mourners to expect them to behave /act quietly, but any public event is for police to control not gormahia fc just as @oduor 12 put it, here in Zanzibar the matches are well organised and as the ticketing firm sell all security matters a re for police not the three cheated lad s i saw they can only supplement but not them as the main security
finally my verdict is that the current office have showm signs of mis management or more so ineptitude in their part

As much as we cannot stop people from criticizing I believe the TB knows what they are doing and why they field which players when. Going to the stadium on a weekend without knowing how the players performed during the training sessions should not apply
