Gor Mahia take on Ulinzi as league tightens

The 2014 Tusker Premier league is destined for one of the most heart stopping finishes in its history. The four teams at the top are separated by only two points. Gor Mahia had a chance to put some space between them and the closest challengers but two succesive draws have complicated the situation at the top.

Still Gor Mahia has a chance to go top when they take on Ulinzi on Wednesday. They will have only 3 days to correct some of the errors they made against Tusker on Sunday. According to assistant coach Bobby Ogolla, the defense gave Collins Kimani too much space.

“We had victory snatched from our grip by a lapse in defence. Our defenders allowed Kevin Kimani too much space on the left and he destroyed us with that killer pass to Clifford Alwanga,” he told goal.com.

Both Bobby Legend and new coach Frank Nuttall have their work cut out to fix the issues. Bobby thinks Gor Mahia played well and are still in the driving seat.

“Overall, we played well. Of course we are disappointed that we did not win this match as we had wanted to. We are however, still focused on retaining the title and are looking at our next game against Ulinzi Stars. We still have the advantage of having played one less match and this may just make a difference at the end.” said Bobby Legend to goal.com

If the defenders played below average, then one player who played well above average is captain Jerim Onyango who was rock solid between the sticks.

Ulinzi are surprisngly even with Gor Mahia in their all time record over the past few years. In April of this year, Gor Mahia beat them 1-0. In 2013, Ulinzi won the first leg while the second leg ended 0-0. A win for Gor Mahia will see them go to 46 points and atop the premier league. A draw will complicate things further and pull them further into the crowded leading pack.

New coach Frank Nuttall  has yet to win a match since he joined and Wednesday would be a good time to get his first win. Many have blamed a lack of player depth.  One person who thinks Gor Mahia’s playing unit is fine is former AFC Leopards and Harambee stars goalkeeper John Busolo.

“Only Tusker can prevent Gor Mahia from winning the trophy for a second time in a row. The KPL champions have everything they need to defend the title; Young players and passionate fans.” said Busolo.

He also thinks there are plenty of positives to pick from their recent CECAFA cup campaign.

“If you ask me, I think the tournament was a good opportunity to expose the young players in a very competitive environment. The experience will push them to win the title.”

Busolo had an illustrious career and was Kenya’s goalkeeper at the 1992 Africa Nations cup. More recently he was the goalkeeper trainer at AFC Leopards.

The match against Ulinzi will kickoff at 4pm on Wednesday at City stadium. May the 12th man turn out in large numbers.

Calabar Not eligible to play

Gor Mahia will have to shore up their defence. But they will have to do it without dependable defender, David Owino “Calabar”. Owino was booked on Sunday and Secretary General Chris Omondi has indicated that having accumulated 5 yellow cards, Calabar is required to miss one game. In his absence, Gor Mahia might count on new signing Charles Bruno.

We need unity of purpose to win all the remaining matches. However, the reported infighting in the technical bench must be stopped now for the team to go places. All stakeholders must pull in one direction for the club to successfully defend the KPL title. The league is our to loose.

brother Mwakio, it is very dissapointing to hear wrangles especially now. This blotted EC has messed up the club. I pray that we beat Ulinzi Squarely.

  • news in the media about the wrangles in the team is not encouraging,we need to know as a family that its kogalo who have the upper hand at the moment, for as much as the media and all the haters dont highlight, deep inside they are dying of envy, ours is to stay focused, support the bench and the team and the rest will be history. as for the coach, i liked your formation, if we cant score, let them also not score, that simple and thats why i liked your defensive formation.

    Truly, truly amazing.
How can there be infighting among the TB which was appointed just the other day.
YAWA YAWA ITS TOO SOON BY ANY STANDARD!
What differences can Nutall & Ogweno had developed so fast.
Ooh Ogweno is the physical trainer & Nutall is a P.E expert???
Reading between the lines it could be just an extension of the divisions in the bloated EC.
I immediately raised the alarm as to why the TB was being bloated.
This taking of sides, if true and not check, will filter to the playing unit.
That’s why we need a strong character as Head Coach
Hopefully Nutall is, my advise simply crack the whip and reconstitute your bench if need be.
THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU (F.N) HATUTA TAKA EXCUSES CUM JAN2015.

bullshit ! Loads of bullshit ! Let’s focus on winning the league and avoid distractors !

Jakoyo, you were becoming a good boy since the day you started to recite the “we shall retain this thing” credo, now withdraw your words above and you will be even a better boy.Now guys whats this, where there is smoke there is always fire. These guys have been together now for only one week and they are feuding? Gosh!! can you people please defer the fights until we will have done what we need to do, win five of the eight matches remaining.

The best way to destabilize this team is to start a rumour about the team. And this is worse when they are in a critical stage of the league. Remember the rumour about Wiper hanging his boots until he came out to refute them. Remember also the romour about the non-payment until one fan clarified that there is no such thing. Of course the new TB members are not angels and might be trying to settle in their places. Bobby, as a former defensive king pin could be failing in strengthening our defense as an assistant coach. Please do something without blaming the defenders. Remember the comments about Victor Ali which made him go back to Tusker?
All I am sure is that everyone in that TB wants Gor to succeed and how they go about it could be the problem. All the same even without Calabar we need tomorrow’s win

K’Ogalo chairman reveals to Goal that they are yet to do away with Tuzo logo from team bus because ‘it is very expensive to carry out the exercise’

    By Otieno Otieno

More than one a year after shirt sponsors Tuzo pulled out of sponsoring Gor Mahia, the Kenyan Premier League champions are yet to scrap off the company’s logo from their bus.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier has revealed to Goal that the major reason why they have maintained Tuzo on their bus is due to the fact that it is very expensive to scrap it off especially when they are yet to get another sponsor.

“It is an expensive exercise to scrap off the painting and so we are waiting to get a sponsor before we can do it and put them there. We want to do it once and for all.”
THIS IS HOW BROKE WE ARE, BUT TOGETHER WE CAN WIN THE TITLE !!!!!

from goal.com………….The Gor Mahia chairman did not however, state how much it would cost to carry out the exercise but conservative estimates puts it at slightly more than Sh500, 000.

Asked whether he does not think the club continues to promote a brand that abandoned them at their hour of need, Rachier said: “They helped us in the past and so we don’t mind continuing to promote them. We are acting in utmost good faith.”

Rachier also revealed that the club does not expect to get a sponsor anytime this season. “We have to now start looking at next year. Most companies will not discuss anything for this year at the moment because they are already making plans for 2015.”

Thanks @Jakoyo for enlightening us on the bus and the TUZO logo. To me the Chairman sees that as an inconsequential problem for Gor at this time. The 500k can be used to motivate the players instead of massaging our egos by repainting the bus.

500k to scrap off the tuzo branded bus and repaint it??are you kidding me????????

  • well, then tuzo are simply harvesting where they did not plant, but all said and done, how we need to make history by clinching the title. we are the only team with its fate on its hand, the rest are pretenders to the throne who are eagerly waiting for kogalo to stumble, what if we dont? your guess is as good as mine. we will leave everybody with an egg on there faces.

Thanks Jakoyo. For once I agree with Rachier especially this statement “They helped us in the past and so we don’t mind continuing to promote them. We are acting in utmost good faith.” The most important message there is “to act in untmost good faith”

Examples where some of our Gor fraternity have NOT acted in good faith are:
-beating up Zico and Kasaya after he gave it all for Gor then joined Sony (should never have happened regardless of whether they were provocative. It is a game
-Some one saying we should not buy TUZO just because they withdrew sponsorship. Reminds me of people who will pull down a building they contributed to build with the wife just because they are now divorced or have some differences.
-People insulting Anguyo or Kiongera just because they are shinning for their new clubs. Remember they gave it all when they were in Gor. They needed a life after Gor.
-I don’t want to revisit the insults Bobby Williamson got yet he is the coach that won for Gor the league after 18 year wait.

    And many others!!

On romours, someone must have realized that we are easily excitable to do damage to our own. The coach has rubbished all the things in the media and has been supported by Jerry so who are we to think otherwise? Remember the romours about Keroche and Bamburi which some of us took as the gospel truth only to be ashamed later. Let’s be humble and know that all these TB members want Gor to excel.

  • This guy Kimanzi thinks that he is the best & if he fails to win against Gor ,then Gor was favoured. He is a failure bcos since he came from extensive coaching course in netherlands, he has never won any major trophy. Now that he is being paid like a CEO, he is under pressure to win the league bcos he signed a perfomance contract that he must meet. Mr kimanzi KPL is not won by papers but by planing on how to win matches & not only winning against Gor.Stop thinking like Efusi who thinks that the league is

Kimanzi knows that if he doesnt win the league then he is sent home, thats the pressure he has.He was given an open cheque to sign the best players, players are motivated and are on very good six figure salaries. He surely doesnt have any reason not to win the league.Thats why he speaks ill of Gor mahia. The media have also been caught up in this, and do not report accurately on Gor mahia, for example, its true we tie with sofapaka on top of the table, but they dont report we have 2 games at hand to play.
