Gor Mahia through to semis

FKF Cup defending Champions Gor Mahia beat Muhoroni Youth 4-2 on post match penalties to set up a mouth watering clash against AFC Leopards next weekend in the Semi Finals. The match was forced into penalties after both teams failed to hit the back of the net in 90 minutes.

Gor won the toss and decided to start the kicks. Rama Salim was first and he hit his to the far right corner with a fully stretched Joseck Gathongo failing to stop it. Ibrahim Ateng’ took Muhoroni’s first kick and he kept the team level with a superb kick that sent keeper Ivo Mapunda the wrong way.

Captain of the day Moses Odhiambo stepped up for the second and he did not do wrong sending the ball into the far left with keeper Gathongo going the wrong way. However, David Oriki blasted his kick wide to give Gor an edge.

Yussuf Juma ensured Gor stayed on the lead with a powerful kick right through the centre. Gregory Nyapala then made it 3-2 also with a well taken penalty, Ivo Mapunda going the wrong way. George Midenyo blasted his penalty on the cross bar to give Muhoroni the lifeline, but Collins Neto failed to make good the favor, blasting his kick way over the bar.

Ugandan Danni Sserunkuma handed Gor a Semi final berth with a well taken kick, sending Gathongo the wrong way.

Muhoroni would feel the more aggrieved side after losing several chances in the first half when Gor looked lost and played without their usual rhythm. Save for two half chances from Teddy Akumu and Kelvin Omondi, Gor never really threatened with the Muhoroni defense keeping their stand.

Gor had a better second half with Coach Logarusic bringing in Yusuf Juma for Chris Wekesa as he wanted more attacking options. Edwin Lavatsa came on for the injured Ali Abondo.

Collins Neto threatened early for Muhoroni with Ivo Mapunda off his line, but Neto had a heavy first vtouch cleared away by Donald Mosoti. Two minutes later, Gor were awakened from their slip and Ibrahim Ateng’ had a goal line clearance from Danni Serunkuma’s shot.

Collins Neto had a chance in the near post with 55 minutes gone, connecting to an Abbey Kynkurunmi cross, but went wide.

With 7 minutes gone into the second half, Danni Sserunkuma had the best chance for Gor but he blasted the ball over the bar after a good cutting pass from Kelvin Omondi who had dribbled past four defenders from the right.

With 20 nminutes left on the clock, Collins Neto saw another of his attempts blow up in smoke with a shot inside the 18 yard area flying high equal for a rugby conversion after a pass from David Oriki.

Seven minutes to go, Joseck Githongo had a spectacular save from George Midenyo’s header after a curling cross from Rama Salim.

Gor will now meet with AFC Leopards in the Semi finals, for the second time in a row. The teams also met last year at the same stage with Gor winning by a solitary goal.

Kudos to the boys for the win. Good taken penalties with gusto, skills and confidence. Keep it up. Advice to maShemeji pls dont shy a way because i hate walk overs. Real men face off on the pitch not on the table. Lets meet at kasarani.

  • We now need to phsyche ourselves for the derby. That should be an ‘easier’ game than playing relegation-bound teams. I believe like all the NEXT GAMES we shall carry the day

I agree fully with JBO deputy coach, there is some level of fatigue in the team.I think the whole week to the semi against Ingwe coaches will work on that.Big cats will definitely come all claws at us but thats where we win the game if we avoid too much pressure on the players, lets stick to “a game at a time” phylosophy and its like any other game; in any case we still have to fight for the bigger prize, the league.

In a knock out tourney every game is like a final. You all saw Muhoroni played as if their life depended on that game. But again there appears to have been a bit of something else considering the kind of chances we missed. Thirteenth man? Fans are twelfth man, you know.

  • Fatigue is an excuse…….isn’t that why clubs have 30 players. We simply need to add depth to every department.

  • There should be no blames here but always remember to return glory, honour, praise and thanksgiving to our Lord that gave us victory in the mighty name of Jesus Christ….In everything remember our Lord Jesus Christ that stood for us throughout the game and we won.

    Amen.

This fatigue story is now becoming stale. We have all virtually played the same number of games….other teams must be equally fatigued!!we just did not play well yesterday. We need to prepare well for AFC and work towards converting our chances!!

  • Guys, the zeal with which other teams play us will not allow us to be cool on the ball. The other thing is that we exert pressure on the boys since we want them to entertain us with crispy passes and win at the same time. It does not always work. I can assure you that the next five games (six if we reach the FKF final) will be energy-sapping for the boys and the fans as well. But to be champions you need a lot of luck at times. And it’s for this reason we will be champions and take the FKF cup as well

Dan i agree with you totally. Why is it that we drift from cheering to sympathy to working up ourselves to booing our boys(at times) to complete quietness and turn to refs.

Many a times we rarely cheer apart from celebrating the goals.

As we demand other things from other components of GM, lets not forget our role. TO UPLIFT THE SPIRIT OF OUR TEAM.

Our role as followers of Kogallo is No1. Cheer the team No2. Cheer the team and No3. Cheer the team. This should be regardless of a win or loss.

Tusife moyo. Good things are ahead and can only be realized if we don’t exert unnecessary pressure on the boys.

Against Ingwe on Saturday, mimi sisemi kitu ila tu kuombea vijana vetu kila la heri.

  • Again we dominate HS though unfortunately Rama has been dropped. That tells alot about our players. As much as we need prayers led by Mwakio, Ingwe will come with revenge in their minds and that is where we will beat them. I don’t see them stopping us. We will hit them on counter-attacks as their strategy-less attacks will expose them at the back. I only wish the game is at Kasarani as the soldiers drills will mess the field as they prepare for the national holiday. I saw how we struggled during the Rangers game. Though this should not be an excuse.

  • Congrats team for the win. Not everything was bad yesterday. It was good seeing Yusuf, Kevo and Owino back to form again.

I listened to Ramogi FM this morning and one ‘Jaro Soldier’ talked of having chased away the Muhoroni witchdoctor yesterday. I hope it wasn’t the guy i saw being beaten just before the penalties. Before then, there were alot of murmurs as to where Imonje may have visited. Our forwards were missing very clear cut chances. I don’t always believe in those stories but then again, this is kogalo.

Finally, let’s preach peace ahead of the third derby. Stakes will be really high. The leopard is awake and Kogalo is marching on.

  • rama and odhiambo dropped. i thnk this is a good call. as much as i see alot of potential in these two players, they are resorting to the same showbiz behaviour. why is rama starting to display this show-ff tendencies, and bobby claiming these guys are tired does not hold water. the clearest indicator is that the team is not scoring convincing victories. i have supported lugar-coach to the core, but what i am seeing is not impressing (afc match included). these players have obviously fallen to the FEEL GOOD mode. a player like rama is spending more time on the ground complaining than playing football, even though odhiambo has not gone to full blast show-off mode, he is not being impressive with his passes. sserenkuma plays like he means business and that is good but i cannot say the same about rama and odhis… i am not supprised they have been dropped and i hope this is a wake up call for them. i am really disappointed with what i am seeing at gor, i have RALLIED here on how gor is taking the league but now i’m asking, are these guys playing like champions, i guess my answer will come after the afc et tusker matches. coach logar by now i was expecting to see some identifiable team pattern of play, i admit the team shows strong tedencies especially in defence but i am yet to see a consistent team attack pattern. the game with rangers was a real stomach ache. for wanga i am supprised he was dropped but for dohis and rama, u deserve it.

    Comrade,

It is unpatriotic to continue imputing improper motive on the behaviour of some of our players who dropped from the national team by coach Michel.

It is the duty of coach to say who should in the national team and who should not.

I don’t think it is true Salim complaints a lot on the field. And even if he does it, you well know this is a marked man. Odhis on his part may not be at his best by the time of selection. By the way, Michel may be spooky for choice on the striking department.

Finally, even as we blog, let be sensitive to our players who also visit this site. They draw their inspiration and drive from the positive comments we post here and from other social sites. Let us remain patriotic to our jungle green and white jersey and loyal to the words of anthem, ‘Timbe duto yuak ni’. I continue to get incessed every time some fans hoist foreign flags at the stadium. Next time I will educate comrades on this issue.

I have a feeling we are not treating the FKF Cup with seriosness it deserves and that’s why we had to go to post-match penalties against Western Stima and Muhoroni Youth. Let it b e different when we face Ingwe.
