Gor Mahia tie slum boys

Kogalo came from behind to tie Mathare United 1-1 in a midweek match played at Nyayo stadium on Tuesday. Gor Mahia dominated possesion but it was Mathare who took the lead via Andrew Tololwa. Gor Mahia went on the offensive with Lavatsa, Solomon Nasio and Dennis Okoth coming close.

Veteran Moses Odhiambo who has been out with an injury capped a glorious return by scoring the equalizer. Odhiambo had come on as a second half substitue along with Kevin Omondi. The introduction of Odhiambo brought a much needed spark into the Gor Mahia unit.  In the 68th minute, Odhiambo picked up a heading pass from Edwin Lavatsa and beat Martin Musalia in the Mathare goal with a well taken shot.

Opondo was very irrelevant in yesterdays game though he plays well he wasted a clear cut chance when dennis was fouled in the box, the other culprit who let Mathare run around was solomon and he was also resposible for giving errant passes that put the team under unneccesary pressure, The Goalkeeper is becoming a big joke i think it time for Jerim to benched to enable him think about his actions in the field where he has gifted the opponents with unnecessary goals. The three players who remained with the goalie after the lavatsa free kick squandered another clearcut chance. The coach is failing to read the game early and I now concur that he is not using all the players like he should and i therefore demand Zeddie yesterdays game we lost because u did not use the right players this was an easy 3pts that u have squandered and we are getting impatient!

WE ARE JUST A HYPED GROUP OF FUNS WITH MONEY TO SPEND. SINCE KOGALO HAS SPONSOR WE CAN AS WELL SAVE OUR MONEY THE COACH AND PLAYERS WILL STILL BE PAID THEY OWE HAS NOTHING. IT IS THE COACH THEY HAVE TO PLEASE AND FOR THE COACH HE JUST HAS TO HONOUR THE MATCHES AND GIVE AFTER THE MATCH COMMENTS ON HOW THE BOYS FAIRED FOR THE NEXT TWO SEASON. UNFORTUNATELY. LAST QUESTION WHEN IS ZD GOING, AGIDO IS FREE NOW. AFC HAS DONE IT ALREADY

Hi friends, as we sat on the terraces alot of people murmured that we were heading for very long evening having seen the players through the warm up… I insisted we wait for the game the coach has his game plan. Alas! These grumblers were to be proven right! Questions? Must jerry be the goalkeeper in all games? For how long will we watch him gift opponents goals? This is the third one..sher,thika and yesterday? Players must be disciplined but its rumoured that the technical bench consumes bhang and that players have been influenced into it. At this rate will we be able to transfer players to green pastures? IT IS SO SAD

The game was hard and that one point according to me was good enough; if you check properly the work rate was high for all players no doubt.Lets not criticise for the sake of it. I will not mourn over an indisciplined player who has been suspended. The remaining are men enough and can do it. But get a striker to assist Lavatsa in the off season in June.

How I wish we would sober up whenever we lose or draw games. Surely Mathere has been a thorn in Kogallo’s flesh ever since. A draw was a fair results to me. Look at the overall game, stop focussing so much on the results. Ja Thur gi ji, I support your comments 101%.

@kosero, i beg to differ with u about this 65% possession and 1 goal, squander 3 clear cut chances two of the chances are one on one with the goalie av seen this kind of football played by some team in England and in the end it is the fans of this club that suffer. Mathare were never close and we would have sealed this game with chances taken. We dont have to play tik tak football to win matches sometimes the team just needs to do simple things right like calculated passing, shooting at the goal not at the goalkeeper as in the case of opondo missing the seater in the first half and Nasio missing that one on one with keeper in the first half. Unless u were watching another match! Have they traveled to Mombasa to acclimatize if they don’t travel early that humidity is going to kill them and we are staring at another disappointing result on the weekend!

  • First on a positive note K’galo’s revival in the 2nd half upto the equalizer was inspiring had they kept up that tempo we’d ave won (thx 2 the encouragement of the ever committed 12th man-simply GM’s best player this so far this season).Sadly we dropped 2 crucial points-Its seems we win then draw/lose, then win then….! With this trend am worried abt the trip to the coast. As for Zico he’s toast, its only a matter on time and it’ll be sooner rather than later. There’s a total disconnect btw fans’ ambition to win the KPL and other titles this year, and a continental title next season with whatever it is Zico thinks hes doing. Finally that ref should be reprimanded 2/3 tackles on GM players by Mathare were straight red card incidences.

  • Agwa Kassam

I still believe we should revive and really mean the word in its true meaning.

We all agree on this discipline issue but lets not look away on facts.. We must be ambitious all of us. As it is all football teams are only complete with- Playing unit,Technical bench,Management and the fans.. we have all these and so we are kind of complete.. but accept that if we are going to be comfortable with the kind of show we have.. then what is tursker doing winning at sony 3:0, Western Stima 2:0.

Me am complaining because since the days of Siang’a we’ve been building a team of the future yet This Zico guy is bent on building a new team all together again!shall we be patient with personal agenda that do not make sense?

You will say the fans discontented should switch off but remember the efforts taken by the media, super sport and now sponsors to bring those fans back! Truly we inherited a team that invited travelers from upcountry every weekend but arrogance, corruption and lack of management brought this team to its knees..

All we are getting and seeing is players being grounded to a halt.. I mean what happens to our players who participated to take Kogalo to no. 2 last year..Owiti, Akang’o,Kitawi all who were called to Harambee Stars? and now Kiplangat are they all indisciplined?

We will not go far if our team destroys careers.. we all have our careers lets air our concerns positively for the benefit of everyone guys even those players are just professionals like the other ones(the coaches new team)

Brothers and sisters us we reason and times we may go overboard but trust me these divisions within the playing unit will not give us results..

It is time for Zico to back to chemilil or join host of tacticians that have been shown the door. I can’t just imagine a coach without first eleven. Why has zico continued to kill talented players such as Owiti and Kitawi? Kosero can you explain? I remember you are the same guy that said that we have been demanding for Kitawi but he performed dismally. What a heal on earth do you judge a player for one game? Time for reporting rubbish is over and zico has got no new tricks to offer at the moment.

I don’r believe all our individual and collective venting is bringing any change. Change, change. What’s going to bring the change. Believe me guy’s, positive thinking and optimism will not turn around Gor’s performace. Action is needed from the technical bench and office. The fans have done their part and if the lethargy continues there is every possibility of crush and burn as seen on Sci-Fi.

  • Am not a bad boy-Suspended Collins Okoth apologizes to fans
Updated on 25/04/11 | By DENNIS MACHIO
Gor Mahia Midfielder Collins Okoth has sent out an apology to his fans following his suspension from the club by head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Ochieng for failure to attend training. Coach Zico announced on Monday that Okoth had failed to adhere to the club’s rules and the technical bench had seen it fit to suspend him from the club.
In an interview with michezoafrika.com on Monday evening, Collins Okoth regretted the development but pointed out the reasons as to why he decided to stay away from training.
“It is very unfortunate it came to that level but I would like to apologize to all my fans who have felt disappointed by my actions to stay away from training. I however would like to inform them that am human and when I was insulted by the coach in our match against Thika United, I felt bitterly hurt and all the players in the team heard and felt what I went through.Infact I never traveled with the team from Thika after that match as I took a matatu back to Nairobi with a heavy heart from the insults.” Said Okoth.
Okoth continues to say “To calm my wounds, I stayed away from training for two days on Monday and Tuesday prior to our match against Ulinzi.Thursday was off day for all the players and I resumed training on Friday but the coach sent me away. That is the account I want my fans to understand not because am heavy headed or indisciplined as has been mentioned.” Said an emotional Okoth.
Okoth has also apologized to the team officials and the coach for skipping training but said coaches should also understand that players have feelings and pelting heavy insults towards them could harm their performance

    That’s from Michezo Afrika.

Very worrying though I now think the team’s morale is the problem. Y allow the lad to take a matatu, there must be a better way of handling such issues soberly certainly not immediately after the match which we won anyway. What about other officials couldn’t they intervene? Zico Zico Zico this is not gud.

  • PS the lad has apologized it takes a man to do that, Zico forgive him and lets move on I say.

@Agwa Kassam, GM has 30 registered players. Out of the 30, each one is good enough to be fielded in any match. To earn a position in the starting lineup, they must work very hard. This is where the much sang about Kitawi and the rest get knocked out. They were good last season fine, but they cannot match the current competition in the squad. To me this is the best thing that can happen in any team. Players will need to work hard because no one has a permanent position in the starting lineup. Its thier commitment and hardwork that will earn them a TUZO jersy on the day of the match. Even players like Awilo are no longer in the starting lineup because of competition. Lets not live in the past.

Is the coach allowed to insult a player? if this happened then this leaves a lot to be desired. The coach is the one to motivate, discipline and correct the players not to insult. It has been mentioned that they take off from training on Thursdays and again train on Friday? as a Fitness/conditioning coach it is not workable if u have a game on Saturday. This proves why they are always so tired on match days. Here is plan depending on the day of the match lets assume that they played on sunday, On Monday is a light jog and stretching session and Gym work or assess injuries, day two is speed and agility training, day three is to be tactics disclosure day in respect to the team they are due to play. day four the match practice day and selection of the first team as per the condition of the players in the last 4 training sessions.
Not under any circumstance should the players do any activity that can give injuries or wear them out a day to match if possible they should be taken for massage sessions and after given food, not forgetting a day to the match the players should sleep in one place(like they are in a camp)……………….I will continue with more on this topic in my next post c u in Mombasa!!!!

It is time you stop this sycophants behaviour of the yester years. We still believe that zico has lost it and it is time for him to go just like other tacticians who have been shown the doors. I advise you to urgently consult psychiatric to test your mental stability. Kosero examine yourself keenly and I think all your rubbish comments can be addressed in mathare mental clinic. Look at yourself and there is something wrong with you. How come your comments are always contrary to all other postings in this site? In this regard, I will not travel to Mombasa and I will be instead watching our live games in the Dstv than going home with lots of gas in the tummy. We need Gattuso to give us impetus for watching our games. Teddy and Gatusso can ably handle our midfield. Lavasta can combine well with Owiti, Odhiambo or Kevo. Where is Owiti and Kitawi? Even if you bring Arsen Wenger or Furgason. We are the most unreasonable lot of fans in this universe. Look at what Sammy Omollo is doing at Tusker. He was ejected by the likes of Paolo from Gor. Dont tell me Tusker have better players than Gor. Neither is Sammy Omollo a better coach than Zico. The difference is that Omollo is doing his work without interference.

Your observations are likening to proverbial saying of a dictatorial emperor or king that was nakedly exposed but his inner sycophants are praising and admiring the king’s attractive attire. The emperor/king is naked but ruling elites are blindly protecting the nakedness of their king. It is now time for Zico to try his luck somewhere like Chemelil, Sony, Sher etc. We have the Cameroonian in bench who can takeover and stop this nonsense of favouritism and silent destruction of talents that took Gor Mahia two years to build.

The remarks of Collins in http://www.michezoafrika.com are very clear and Coach Zico is the figurehead that should handle all players with decorum and respect they deserve. Do not just abuse players but nurture them to unleash their hidden potentials. Do not abuse players because they are also human beings. Do not resort to use of derogatory remarks, just learn to work with them, handle them with respect, please accommodate them and help them grow from strength to strength for the purpose of collective responsibilities in winning matches. In Europe, I have not heard players being handled like the way our coach is doing.

Among the local coaches, please help the Office to pick one. There are coaches who have vowed not to coach Gor. One of them being Bobby Ogolla. He cant stand the interferance where even fans want to dictate who should and should not play. Other uncouth fans also abuse and even threaten them. I am watching who will take over from Zico and how long he will survive. Its interesting that Gidieon Ochieng’s name is featuring again after the very fans threw him out. As for me am only saying Zico must have gone but not able to say who’s in not because i can’t but coz i believe we have an office that should be given the chance to exercise their talent and so i say, as you look for the next coach think of these things:

    1. The days of Juju are no longer with us!
    2. It takes professionalism only to succeed…its laughable one team has already replaced its technical bench with untrained person only known for the above..sisemi kitu..
3.Motivation plays a big role in getting good results not insults and lack of openness in team management.
4.Everyone deserves a chance and a second chance..we’ve given Zico this but he’s paid us back with arrogance and favoritism.
5.We need to train and transfer quality players drug free so trainer must be gentle man free from drugs.

    6. Offices should be fewer to help rid sabotage and saturation..confusion.

Make buying membership be an easy , affordable process e.g like buying a scratch card. Gideon’s (the guy pulled GM out of the woods) my choice as the deputy coach coz he can make a gud understudy due to his age and i think he got a natural coaches eye. Grapevine has it that at the time he left was due to lack of certificates( same problem i hear with Elkana of Sofameow). To the management of GM pls do not take the fans threat not to attend matches lightly because so far things have frozen and the numbers are dwindling. Huyu legend akitaka kuenda Harambee Stars I think it is time……………… there are so many Africans who are qualified to handle GM. look at that Coach for the DRC club outfit is he from Senegal? what this country is suffering from is they have treated sports people so badly and that is why they better hire someone with less qualification on no qualification at all and this has filtered down to it’s institutions. There are so many coaches out there who are just waiting for a chance to prove themselves who knew Mourinho b4 he took Porto to Glory, I insist there are so many young people all over the world just because of their age they are denied opportunities If GM management is serious they want a coach who can take this club far then they need to talk to the brazilians and organise somekind of patnership with the club that came over here (palmerias) they said they are willing to help develop the game and the club!
The training program to start with doesnt not give players time to recover pls refer to one of my posts…….. @ getting a coach is not a problem the problem is the management of GM. How many times have fans through this forum shouted themselves hoarse that they be given a way to contribute to this club by owning somekind of shares or special membership and no answer from the mgt has come forth, this tells u that nothing is going to change………..Fans to u: May be GM is owned by some few individuals and we didnt know no wonder they dont answer the issue of shares at GM…………. Lastly go even to arsenal they have so many understudy coaches who just want experience on the job and u will be suprised we might not even pay anything meanwhile young Kenyans it is time to get certified in whatever u do, u can be a driver for 20yrs but without a driving licence(valid) no one will trust u…… should they loose today or draw we will protest and the next match will have empty seats without any fans

Am so disappointed with the draw with Congo and i have said this before Gor will go nowhere with some of the calibre of players and the coaching mentality we have. Zico had the chance to sign quality players before the start of the season and what did he do even after the selling Ngwa and Berry majority of the players he signed were nondescript players. For Gor mahia to challenge for the league and CAF, we must look at the wingbacks, the midfield and the striking force again. Look at Nasio and wycliff please can these guys play the modern game where it requires you to have the speed and agility to attach and defend from the flanks, no no no no no no. In the midfield Gatusso stands out, Akumu yes is good he has the physique but the lad needs guidance from a good coach for us to reap maximum from him. The same with Lavastsa the later should learn to conserve energy the way Berry use to do it and use this to score goals. Kevo is good but he needs a lethal striker for both to instill fear on the opponents. Odera has the skills but is let down by his physique so he needs a nutrionists and that requires the office to come. Moses odhiambo for now i cant say much. To me these are the core players i can count on brothers and sisters who have the necesarry skills to even play at the national level. We must break the bank and sign quality players during the transfer window coz i think the money is there coz look when these key players are not playing we are always struggling but hey why should we depend on two or three players it is suicidal. To the office i ahve said this the cost of leaving is going up but because of your greed you keep charging us 400ksh per game center stand , see what is happening other teams are taking the cue and charging us the same and why should i continue paying the same with such a midocre team in place with a coach who has no clue as to how we feel a,d an office that does not communicate to us what is going on. Do we have a comminication manager and if we have i have never seen any of them updating us on the ongoings in the club.

  • At this rate guys, you like it or not zico must go. There is no real value addition this zico guy is offering to the team at all. Where is colo in the midfield? Zico you must resign now or we are showing the exit door as key stakeholders.

  • Albert Kosero (Kampala Branch)

JoKisumu beduru moss. No team goes to play to loose. Draw was better than a loss. I am looking at the other results, it appears all matches ended in draws. Should all the coaches be sacked? I predicted Odera will score and indeed he scored. Those who have been baying for his blood now you may relax. I am not loosing hope yet. Am with the boys until the end no matter the results. Gor is marwa.

  • I feel profoundly honored and exceedingly humbled to contribute on this platform. Reading through some of your comments elsewhere on this page, i feel there are many dissenting voices on the competence of our coach, the wiz boy, zico. I think we are overstepping our mandate. I agree totally with my brother Albert kosero (kampala branch) who seem to have a sober assessment of our club tactician. Zico came a time when our club is struggling and pushed it to second position during 2010 KPL season. We are only in the first round of this season and the results are encouraging. Apart from the results, zico is also credited by the highest level of discpline being exibited by the boys not to forget the flaymboyant football being displayed on the pitch.

It is no secret that zico favors the 4-2-2 system of play. Let us give him time to give us results. Our fans should understand their role in the club.
Thank you and God bless K’ogalo.
