Gor Mahia to extend Nuttall’s contract

After having retained the 2014 Kenya Premier league in a tumultous season, the next item on the club’s agenda is to renew the contract of Scottish coach Frank Nuttall. The Scot arrived midway through the season with no head-coaching experience and there were doubts among many regarding his coaching ability. As a result, he was placed on a probationary contract. But Nuttall rejuvenated a Gor Mahia side that had just recently put up a listless performance at the 2014 CECAFA cup.

Next year Gor Mahia are faced with another uphill task in local as well as international tournaments. The first step has to be to renew Nuttall’s contract.

Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier has praised Nuttall for his creativity.
“We are happy with what he has done here. When we engaged him in September, people said he is a fitness coach, who can’t help us. Over time he has disapproved all of us.

“Look at the match against Ushuru for example. He started with a strange line-up putting players in unfamiliar positions. That was a brave move and we think he is the best man to do the job here.

“I want to tell fans that Nuttall is going nowewhere. We are beginning negotiations soon to decide on the length of his new contract and renumeration. We hope that before he leaves, we will have agreed on a frame work of how everything goes.” said Rachier to goal.com

Club secretary general Chris Omondi echoed the chairman’s words.
“We shall sit down as an executive committee and talk with him. We don’t have much time because the continental assignments begin in January so we must iron out the issue as fast as we can,”

Uhuru, Sonko and Kidero Gor Mahia

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero and Senator Mike ‘Sonko’ Mbuvi are among the top politicians to congratulate Gor Mahia for lifting the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title over the weekend.
President Uhuru, through his social media account posted – “Congratulations Gor Mahia on winning the Kenya Premier League”.
Governor Kidero who has played a pivotal role in financially supporting the club this season  also posted on social media to send a word of congratulations :  “As expected, Gor retains their title as KPL Champions. Congratulations”.
Sonko says he has admirted the club since he watched the legendary 1987 side. . He said Gor’s win was important in that it shows the high level of football standards within Nairobi County. “My love for the club dates back to 1987 when players like Peter Dawo, John Bobby Ogolla and Sammy Onyango Jogoo grabbed headlines. As the Nairobi Senator, I feel compelled to support clubs within my region. I will work with the Nairobi Governor to ensure that Nairobi clubs are supported in the best way possible,” Sonko said.

Meanwhile, the team jetted back to Nairobi yesterday from Kisumu to a rapturous reception from the clubs fans

my personal opinion, the key players who made the difference for the club this season are godfrey walusimbi ( most assist) , dan sserenkuma ( most goals ) and godfrey Kizito ( best midfielder ) ….this are they players whose contract should be renewed AM NOT SURE THE COACH WOULD HAVE SUCCEEDED WIHTOUT THIS TRIO !!!!!!!

  • Pmawego

@Jakoyo, all the players did their part, including the much maligned Eric Ochieng. I beg to differ with you. Tusker, AFC, Sofapaka had the who is who in their teams but ended nowhere. In my view, the players who made the difference in the team were ALL of them. The difference between Gor and the rest of the 15 teams was their team work and concentration. Later on their fitness levels were at the top!! A skilful without fitness and discipline is as good as nothing. Gor was probably one of the most disciplined team in the TPL this season.

Brother jakoyo yawa….I know how realistic you can always be.In your opinion only those three contributed something worth noting and writing about?I respect your realism and objectivity. So you want Owino,Jerry,Oluoch BB,Garrison all out.So you will be comfortable when we have to start from scratch with”a fitness coach”.No my brother.Association football is a collegiate sport. Each person does his part. That is why substitutions are allowed so that a team member who is tired or out of form gives way for another team mate.We all acknowledge the work ethics of these three Ugandans and I concur it would have been a little difficult to retain the trophy-without their selfless contribution.Good people,I implore you to climb down from our lofty perches of perfectionism and realise that Our players are mere mortals. There were games some of them, including the three, were down.It was the love for the green army that kept them going.Give credit where it is due.It won’t be long before some great coaches and players on this blog(I am yet to know the teams they once coached or played for)start telling us that the 2014 was won by players scouted, signed and trained by Len Julians. They will remind us that Frank is a journeyman and a fitness instructor.Spare us your baggage. Allow us to savour this experience.Carp diem.

eeeeeeh bloggers quick to jump the gun and make knee jerk conclusions!!!

ALL am saying in as much as Nutall contract should be renewed WE CANNOT LET THIS TRIO LAPSE THEIR CONTRACT AND LEAVE FOR FREE – SSERENKUMA, KIZITO AND WALUSIMBI.

I am simply being ‘realistic’ we have seen contracts of key players lapse and just go unnoticed !!!!

I hear that 2015 season will have 18 teams. The sad part of it is that the 18 teams are either from Nairobi region or Western Kenya except for Sofapaka (Eastern, at least in 2014), Ulinzi (Rift Valley), Bandari (Mombasa), Thika United (Central), Tusker (Eastern, at lesat for a few matches). This is indeed sad. Can something be done to bring back teams like Mafuko Bombers, Congo United, Kericho something etc. Can we have more teams from Coast, Central Kenya, Rift Valley and Eastern Kenya. Governor Peter Munya should have invested money on Mafuko Bombers instead of Tusker. What do you think.

Meanwhile, I want to congratulate the whole team for doing us proud. Special thanks to mere fitness coach, not forgetting Eric Ochieng and Jerim Onyango who would have quit soccer long time ago if they followed comments on this page. Congrats to Kevin Oluoch who despite his experience and trust given to him by the BW and FN, was asked to leave the team by some members of this page. Let us also not forget Blackberry Odhiambo who was finished completely and should have looked for another team if he were to read some of the comments here. As for the hooligans, you made me consider deeply if I should really be watching Gor Mahia matches live or just send my VIP gate charges as contribution through MPESA to 35XXXX and stay at home.

Warnings – people must stop pointing fingers at individual players or memberst of the TB. They win as a team and loose as a team. I am yet to see a GM player or TB who goes to the pitch to loose a match!! They are all dedicated under difficult circumstances. Some people drive to the stadium and live comfortably while the players try to make ends meet yet we throw abuses and stones at them

Jakoyo, 2014 KCPE question 7 Social Studies was as follows: Who won the 2013 TPL as coach of Gor Mahia?

2014 KCPE question 17 Social Studies will as follows: Who won the 2015 TPL as coach of Gor Mahia?

I know you passed your KPCE with flying colours and these could be easy questions for you, TWENDE KAZI….

    @ Pmawego ….

Fact: Nutall success rate 67% ,BW success rate 60%.

Fact : BW recruited the playing unit and Nutall turned them into champions.

Fact: Nutall had a better defence and attack record . BW simply grinded out results.

Lets see who will be coach of the year 2014 …..

All in all, I appreciate the contribution made by both coaches and the club TODAY is in MUCH better hands.

I remain forever ‘realistic’ as we restrategize for 2015 ?…so ask me that question this time NEXT YEAR !!!!

@Jakoyo note that as at the close of the league, Frank Nuttal had no contract as his deliverables were on probation period. Since he has passed the exams with flying colours and this is why our able Chairman and Secretary General have confirmed of contract being given Frank Nuttal.

Fellow bloggers sometimes we have to ignore postings of the likes of Jakoyo that have been overtaken by key events unless he is a visitor to this site.

As we celebrate our club achievement in 2014, please @Oduor12 and @Mwakio kindly bring back the healthy discussions on the Gor Mahia SACCO.

@Jakoyo, every time you type something, you contradict yourself. You refused to acknowledge that BW made the players champions in 2013 after Loga recruited them, now you are telling us Nutall made them champions after BW recruited them. Can you have a stand??? I have been revising all your comments in 2014 and I am about to copy paste them here. You will be shocked at yourself.

Meanwhile, I learnt something when I was young about a few people you must always support and that is what has kept me going:
-Your teacher – Because whether you like him or hate him, he will get a pay rise when KNUT calls for a strike. This is guaranteed whether the whole class fails or not. So it is upon you to co-operate with him.
-Your coach – he is paid to select the team, so whether you criticise him or not, whether you call for his sacking or not, whether you shout substitution or not, whether you remove titles from him like you did for BW, he remains the coach
-Your parents – They brought you to this world and moulded you.
-Government of the day – whether it came to power through the gun, unfree and unfair election, manipulation etc, not supporting them makes you worse and not better

    Have a realistic Jakoyo day.

It is time we all got progressive-minded. What ‘we’ achieved this season as a club is testimony of what sheer human resolve can achieve if we put our heads together. It has taken so much unity of purpose to be where we are. There were some very low moments this season that had we stayed divided and pulling in different directions, then we would have been swept aside never to see this joy today.

Whatever we witnessed on Saturday is what every football fan yearns for. It is what every fan wishes for his team. Our boys gave it all to us on that day. The exquisite flawless ground ball; the spectacular strike from Eric Ochieng and the wild and hilarious celebration to go with it; the three goals without reply and the cup being held aloft. Thank you team. You did well and I don’t care whether Frank Nuttall has a 67% success rate or not. What I know is that he delivered when it mattered and now mission accomplished: Champions back to back. If you want to know that Frank Nuttall is a man on a mission, then look at his response to the Sofapaka debacle. Any other coach would have resorted to pointing fingers at his players, accusing them of this and that. With him he remained as cool as a cucumber and plotted his assault ‘frankly’ and methodically.

The bottom line is that all that was possible because people put their heads together. The putting of heads together has been elusive in this blog site but I thank God that something good is now happening here, thanks to Okoth Jabilo, Administrator, Oduor12, ‘CEO’ and Baba Travis. This is a reminder that this site should not continue to be the battlefield we have converted it into. Instead we should make it the orchard that it is supposed to be. As an orchard this site has the potential of yielding great fruits like almonds, berries, grapes, oranges, pineapples, mangoes, pawpaws and the list is endless. To this end I just urge that we should all go the direction of progress and development and not just blog and blog until the ink runs out. To paraphrase my great pal, The Villager, where will this blogging take us if it cannot translate into material benefit for Gor Mahia and us as individuals?

Finally let me join my friends Jimmy Amimo and Pmawego in expressing disgust at fans who are always so keen to spoil the party out of their brainlessness. Next time the EC should hire that crowd control riot police tanker fully loaded with buffalo urine. I want to believe that they will never invade the pitch if they are showered comprehensively with that buffalo urine. They will itch and scratch themselves to either sleep or near insanity.

What I like about this trophy this time is that it has put a stop to all those who were making noise about “Bring back Loga” No one is thinking about him anymore. We have moved on. That is not to underestimate Loga’s impact when he was GM coach. I always appreciate every person who has worked with or for GM. That is why we must never forget about Innocent Mutiso who had to retire at an early stage due to injuries. He still has a place in GM’s heart. How I wish he could be given a role in Gor even in the TB

thanks comrades. @jokim@mwingi, and pmawego thanks a lot this idea of community clubs or regional. it’s high time this institutional club should be a abolished. they add no value to our league. have you ever witnessed KCB vs western stima, ushuru fc, tusker?it’s so boring such that you could hear the coach giving instructions from very far. to make it worse, it’s transmitted live across Africa via super sports. for coach Frank, he has earned his contact. I think for now we can play some foot ball. no long punts towards the opposite direction. let’s celebrate as we focus for the futer
