Gor Mahia to face DC Motema Pembe of DR Congo
Gor Mahia face a tall order in the CAF Confederations cup. They will play against DC Motema Pembe of DR Congo.
Gor Mahia will host DC Motema Pembe on Wednesday, October 30 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani with the second leg to be played on Tuesday, November 5 in Kinshasa. The winner will proceed to the group stage.
Gor Mahia have had success at this stage in the past two seasons, beating New Star de Douala last season and Supersport of South Africa in the previous season, both by narrow margins.
Motema Pembe present a tougher challenge. In the preliminary round, they eliminated Stade Renard de Melong of Cameroun by a 4-0 aggregate score. In the first round, they eliminated Al Khartoum of Sudan on penalties. They qualified for the CAF cup by finishing in third place in the Congolse league (Linafoot).
They have a strong pedigree in African football. They won the Africa cup winners cup in 1994, beating Tusker of Kenya in the final. On that occassion, Tusker with players like Motego, Nachok, Sholei, Musa Otieno and others, forced a 2-2 draw away in Kinshasa only to succumb to a 3-0 loss at Kasarani.
DC Motema Pembe were Africa cup winners cup runners up in 1995. They have won the Congolese league 12 times and the cup 13 times. They were previously known as CS Imana.
Gor Mahia for their part will be looking to forget their dismal performance against USM Alger and instead build on their win of AS Maniema of DR Congo at the CECAFA cup in July.
Fans for their part will be hoping that the club can sort out travel and Visa issues on time instead of the usual last minute rush of finding tickets 2 days before travel.
Motema Pembe translates to “Roho Safi” or Clean Heart in the Lingala language.
So assuming we need 20M to honour CAF matches and another 15M to pay outstanding player salaries , allowances and match bonuses including technical bench , so an estimated total of 35M in 2-3 weeks time according to Aduda’ s mathematics .
‘Fans’ we have to believe we can raise at least 20 percent of that .
@jathurgi ji, I agree with you fully. That should be the mindset. We have a descent record against such clubs , remember in kagame cup we easily beat a team that finished 4th in DRC league…. Names don’t mean much!
Indeed, we have the means and the wherewithal to beat them . My only wish is that we get the many injured players off the treatment table and bring some potency to the attack line …Muguna will not be our saviour all the time now that kipkirui is temporarily off color.

For the record, that final with Tusker (Kenya Breweries then) in 1994 was at Nyayo, not Kasarani.
I was present. Very sad indeed that Breweries just let the Congolese tear them to pieces. The goalkeeper that day (Bwire Namudeche or Kibira) was off colour and every body just under performed. I remember sitting down with Wuon Okwaju (Pamzo) after the match, and he could not understand what had happened to the team. Motema Pembe came along with some traditional witches who performed some rituals around the perimeter wall and this act might have had some psychological effects on the Breweries players. Lutumba Menga played for FC Kalamu. AFC were leading 4-1 when Lutumba Menga was red carded. He went ahead to plant two slaps on the referee then went ahead to slap George Olubendi of AFC Leopards before he was wrestled down by security officials. In the return match in Lubumbashi, AFC lost 2-0.

Ivorian striker Yikpe Ghislain missed a penalty as Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia drew 2-2 in a friendly match at Camp Toyoyo grounds on Thursday.
Yikpe blasted wide over the bar after Alliance defender Wema Sadoki had earlier handled it inside the box with K’Ogalo trailing the visitors 2-1.
The Tanzanian side took the lead in the 1st half when Kheri Mohamed slotted in an easy ball past David Mapigano.
Gor responded 5 mins later with Kennedy Otieno’s long range shot wrong footing John Mwenda in the Alliance goal.
John Tegete restored the visitors’ lead in the 40th minute after Joachim Oluoch and Charles Momanyi failed to clear the ball.
Charles Momanyi equalised in the 85th minute after heading Boniface Omond’s free kick past Mwenda.
Abdalla Shira, Lloyd Khavuchi, Kennedy Otieno and Dickson Ambudo all started for Gor Mahia with a number of 1st team players left on the bench.
Gor Mahia’s coach Odhiambo said he used the match to assess the young players and match fitness ahead of their coming league matches. “Most of our young players are promising and we will slowly be integrating them into the senior team. Coach SGP will be back on Sunday and we will continue training so as to win the league and other continental matches,” said Odhiambo.
Football is ailling in Kenya because we have great fun base that dont show up to matches due to fear for their security. When football watching will be safe for kenyans to take the matches as entertainment to them, and players play to win and also entertain the crowd and some supporters behave then, we will all join in and through filled stadia, Money will never be an issue.
We have now resorted to alternative safer entertainment, which now have our money.
