Gor Mahia to fly out on Thursday

Gor Mahia will fly to Dar es Salaam on Thursday. This after an impromptu fund raiser was held on Tuesday. President Uhuru Kenyatta via the sports ministry facilitated return tickets.

A total of ksh 2.1 million was raised at the fund-raiser. According to goal.com, those who donated included:

Eng. Job Ndege Sh100, 000 (his friends Sh123, 000), Sam Wakianga Sh200, 000, Kariobangi Sharks chairman Nick Mwendwa Sh200, 000, Gor Semelango (Sh100, 000), Cyprian Awiti (Sh100, 000), Mp Moses Kuria (Sh200, 000), Jakoyo Midiwo (Sh20, 000), Ambrose Rachier (Sh100, 000), Steve Omondi (Sh20, 000) Tom Alila (Sh20, 000), Eng, Nyamunga (Sh25, 000).

Others include Peter Kenneth (Sh100, 000), Apiko Owiro (Sh25, 000), Gor Mahia excecutive office (Sh110, 000), President Sam Nyamweya (Sh50, 000), Nicholas Musonye (Sh50, 000), Dr. Oyore (Sh20, 000).

MP Moses Kuria went further to say that he would like Gor Mahia to move their home matches to Gatundu

“I like Gor Mahia as a club and I want to ask top management to consider having Gatundu Stadium as their home ground when the new stadium is passed fit to host matches. The stadium is currently under construction and should be ready for use starting next season.” he said according to goal.com

Optimism abounds

Most experts who have spoken out fancy Gor Mahia’s chances of doing well at this year’s CECAFA club cup. Among those who chimed in is former coach Bobby Williamson who thinks that this year’s team has gelled alot better than last year’s team.

“The team has been together for a long time now, gelled well and they have shown that in the league. Individually they have a lot of quality and if they pull together as a team then they can pull surprises in the tournament,” said Williamson to futaa.com

Current member of the technical bench Mathew Ottamax is also adamant that Gor Mahia has a good opportunity to win this tournament for the first time in 30 years.

“The team has been preparing for this tournament in the league matches and we are in great shape to compete. We respect our opponents because every team is a champion in their local league. ” said Ottamax to futaa.com

Whereas last year, Gor Mahia went to CECAFA with numerous inexperienced players, this year the club boasts a good blend of youth and experience which makes Ottamax more confident.

“We have both experienced and young players in the squad. The seniors have played at this level and they know what it takes to excel at this level. This will help us to get out of difficult situations” continued Ottamax.

Players like Kagere who have featured and thrived in this tournament will especially be useful. Kagere was the top scorer in the 2011 CECAFA senior challenge cup.

 Coach Nuttall cautious

Coach Nuttall for his part realizes that the competition at the tournament will be  a notch higher than what pertains in the local league.

“There is obviously going to be high competition in that tournament because all the teams that are coming in are national champions in their respective countries. It is a good thing that we are leaving the country with an unbeaten league record, and it will be lovely to have the same results in Cecafa.” said Nuttall to supersport.com

Nuttall does not want to get ahead of himself. The team must take one game at a time and not worry about winning the tournament yet.

“We, however, have to be realistic and I think making it out of the group stages alive will be a great way to start because, then, it will give us room to build up and possibly challenge for top honours. But we need to get out of the group and that is our goal,” he continued.

  • I think we are getting into the right attitude to get a sponsor :
1 draw the media to our side
    2. Avoiding / kicking out hooliganism
3.welcoming any kind of fun with a soft heart/ spot for the club
4.promoting the small sponsor we have and being transparent in every club dealings
We must keep it up and more so on the transparency front

I believe our Patron contributes all the time and there is no need for him to must be there on the list. Just like Governor Kidero and Chairman AR

    • @Symple, you posting is misplaced. How much you you contributed yourself? Let us not dwell on who has contributed and who has not contributed. The contribution should start with you and me brother. Why are you asking how much has been contributed by so and so?

@ Symple – let us not dwell much on individual contributions. Maybe patron did not have money but I know he usually supports the club when called upon.

The only thing I may request our patron and all fans/supporters is to accommodate anyone willing to support Gor Mahia, regardless of party affiliations because Gor Mahia is not a political party; neither can we convincingly say it is a community club purse. We are all one family.

    • Kogalo is a community club but also with supporters all over the world but we shouldn’t be ashamed of saying its a community club (very different from tribal club)

I respect the club’s decision to accept Moses Kuria’s contribution but i differ with it. As a club even though in need, we should not associate with such individuals, people who have twitted that a certain community is uncircumcised like the canaanites and should be killed like the canaanites were killed by the hebrews. Somebody who has incited the public to slash others even referring to ‘yule mtu wa kitendawili’…
That only says he’s playing PR stunts with the contribution especially because he is currently in hot soup but deep inside he loathes us.

      This is my humble opinion

Symple my brother let us not dwell on who contributed and who did not contribute. What we should all be doing is to thank God for touching the hearts of all those who gave and praying that he fills their cup once again so that they may be motivated to give next time. Remember this is not that last time we will be appealing to well wishers to come to our financial aid.

In the meantime……..Tunayo kazi moja tu, tunayo kazi moja. Kazi ni kumpiga Myanga. Sababu ya kumpiga tunalo; uwezo wa kumpiga tunao na niya ya kumpiga tunayo (in the words of the late mwalimu Julius Nyerere, ours forever).

Kogalo is not a political party and is not affiliated with any politician. We are a national team and we are broke. If Moses Kuria wants us to play in Gatundu or give us money, we should accept.

Why do some people behave as if Gor is their personal property? UK bought tickets for our team, MK gave a donation, VP airlifted the team to Kisumu the other day, all this have gone torwards uplifting the team. the name Gor Mahia is a mystic name not a tribal nor a party name.

@John please be proactive. Whatever scores you have to settle with EC, please save it for another day. Those two players left behind will definitely link up with the team before Saturday. Do you also believe that they lack traveling documents? Really? @John in football there is something that opposing teams apply on each other called mind games. I know you you know about mind games better than me. Cool down man and let us pull together for now.
