Gor Mahia to hold fundraiser for coaches car

Courtesy of michezoafrika.com

Gor Mahia will hold a fundraiser on the 30th of October to raise funds for purchasing a car for the team’s coach. According to Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana, the decision was informed by the fact that it had been expensive to move the coach with a Taxi to and from training and for his personal movements.

“It is important for a club of Gor’s caliber to have the coach having his own car. This will make his movements easy as well as reducing the club’s expenditure. It has been very expensive to pay for a taxi for the coach everyday and we saw it cheaper and wiser to have the coach get his own car,” Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana told michezoafrika.com.

The fundraiser will be held at charter hall and all branches and friends of Gor Mahia have been invited to the event. Bwana says that each of the over 110 Gor Mahia registered branches nationwide is expected to give at least 20,000 Shillings for the project.

“We want to buy a good car preferably a four wheel. However, we will make the final decision after the fundraiser depending on the amount we will have collected. All Branches and Friends of Gor Mahia are invited and if someone does not belong to a branch, they are still invited to come over and make their own personal contributions,” Bwana adds.

  • Good move indeed Mr.Secretary General. Please kindly also consider to put in place a number where fans and friends of Kogallo Who reside far from the city can send contributions via Mpesa. Long live Gor Mahia.

I think this is a good idea, but since the season is coming to an end..its not the time to carry this out. “it is gut decision”. As a loyal fan, i would suggest that in the 3 years medium term plan, this be factored for the first Quarter of the 12 Quarters.
We must start working on a plan and budget, which can be monitored. And of course you must share with the fans the plan so that they have an input, consequently own it up.
Lets brainstorm and see how we can be more magnetic to money.

Is the club actively looking for a sponsor to add on to Tuzo? Is the club speaking to Tuzo to extend the contract with better terms and flexibility to onboard co-sponsors? Did we really elect the right officials to market the club? Or may be we had less interest in the way the club was run at that time and suddenly the club has grown so big in such a short time? Especially with the acquisition of Logarusic who has totally turned around the fortunes of the club in such a short time? The above idea is noble and we should urgently get the manager a car ASAP. But the next sponsor must cater for these and many more incentives required to run a club successfully. So we must elect professionals to our exec committee in the next elections…..not people who cannot do a simple presentation to sell the club to potential sponsors.

Good idea….however,we have about a month to the end of the season and am sure the coach would want to leave for his homeland then.My take is,we finish the season, analyse how it went,on the pitch and financially, then plan ahead subject to tuzo contract renewal or a new sponsor or otherwise. For now lets focus on what we want to achieve on the pitch and leave the other matters until the end of the season.1 more month of using a taxi am sure wont hurt,at this moment in time, its not a matter of life and death!!!

The idea is not bad and even the timing is not bad either. Holding a fund-raiser on 30th Oct is not buying a car on 30th Oct. Buying the coach a car is a process that must begin somewhere….

  • SIMPLE BUT MEASURED STEPS WE MAKE

I want to take this early opportunity to support this decision taken by our officials to buy a car to be used by the coach. The reasons they have given are valid and long overdue.

    Comrade Olu,

There is no clear reason on your why the fundraiser event be postponed. Instead I want to urge all the registered branches and friends of Gor Mahia to rally behind the initiative and make it a success. Branch officials must therefore ensure members are properly notified about the event and how much to contribute in order to meet the minimum contribution by their respective club.

I feel sad our Bloggers branch has failed to take off despite brouhaha about it by comrades.Nonetheless i feel extremely proud to be part of this event. Our officials are acting in the best interest of the club and we should all support this noble idea.. Perhaps I would suggest the the officials to open a new bank account and the account name be ‘ GOR MAHIA COACHES’ CAR PROJET’.

Baseless fundraising. Well wishes mentality will never take us far in Africa. It’s time we get over it and look at alternatives….

1 why buy a vehicle? Why can’t we lease with the surplus cash we generate as income on month to month basis.

2 what happened to the tuzo sponsorship.? If the sponsorship favours one party then for god’s sale terminate the bloody papers. We should ask tuzo to foot the transport bill for the coach and compromise or sacrifice a few other areas.

3 another sponsor. Why can’t we look for another sponsor to finance the admin expenses. The sponsorship can be pegged on results such that if the coach performs, then perks go up and if he fails, the axe shall definitely fall. There are local companies that could consider this option and infant even the local motor vehicle dealers would be glad to listen if there is a win win case.

4 logarusic is th first coach in the history of gor mahia to ask for a private car. He asked for a private apartment and he was given or let me say it was donated to him. …………okay folks, what happened to gor mahia ‘s strategic plan. When and how are we going to go commercial? We need to start generating money to finance our expansion and not playing by the wishes and egos of individual coaches. The guy is good but he has to be made to understand that the club has a long term strategic plan.

I’ve always considered and termed GM’s current management’s thirst and lust for free money as primitive and embarassing.

Harambees are good but there is no way we are going to treat everything as emergency including fundermental plans!

However, if my branch decides to contribute i may do so but with a very bent neck and extreme dissatisfaction.

Let those who will contribute do so..As comrade Pod Antie puts it, if just marketing the club is not possible with this large EC.. and i add if we still have to live with perennial mismanagement of gate collections then are we really sure we will develop the club or shall we just resign to the fact that GM will forever be a begging and desperate for free things brand?

    SO SAD.

If it is then I think this still is a good season time for emplimentation. For to me to begin somewhere is the birth of a good idea. Please follow it through to the end.

The idea is good but i prefer a case where one is well remunerated inorder to cater for his/her needs. Who will fuel, maintain, insure etc the vehicle. Since my love to K’Ogallo supersede everything come harrambee come i will contribute and for us who are out of Nairobi let us be told early where/how we can channel our contribution.

We are only talking about the coach’s car, what about the assistant coach and the team manager. These 2 also play a very intergral part in the technical bench. One sure way of creating rifts in a team is by overlooking other members.

@Kassam Mwivangano and other bloggers, we as fans need to demand for paradigm shift where we need to take Gor Mahia to a different level. Why should we continue to compare Gor Mahia to Thika United, KCB, Sofapaka etc? We have a rich history and heritage hence we need to move higher and higher and do things differently and rightly with more openness and trasparency.

We have made such proposals before but none of the EC members is thinking otherwise. I shall continue to press on with such proposals that include the following:-
    • COMMERCIALISING OF CLUB ACTIVITIES: Commercialise sale of the club merchandise with real logos, water marks and security features that cannot be duplicated by fraudsters.
    1. FOOTBALL EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES: Develop strategic alliances and partnership with foreign football clubs and academies in England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Brazil, United States, Mexico, France, etc to explore exchange programmes. This can also run alongside with having relationship with diplomatic missions of these countries on technical matters and exchange programmes.
    2. THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: Innovative ideas such as the admin to come up with production of different merchandise like popular current replica affordable jerseys, unexplored caps, cups, track suits, towels, pens, jackets, watches, mobile phone covers, stickers, bags, pencils porches for school going kids, scarves, tyre or spare wheel cover, etc.
    3. PROFESSIONALISM: Set up secretariat of the club with hired and salaried CEO, finance & commercial director, marketing manager, fund raising and sponsorship director, administration manager, procurement manager, football development manager, scouts women and youth football officer etc. However we can start with five fulltime official with a purpose of expanding the secretariat further to 18 full time staffs.
    4. CONVERTING CLUB INTO A COMPANY: Turn club to a professional outfit and company.
    5. SEASON TICKETS: Come up with secured club seasonal tickets at discounted rates.
    6. INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT: Come up with a plan to acquire land and build a club stadia, training ground, club house and club apartments for players.
    7. STRONG FINANCIAL BASE: Come up with sound fundraising activities from members ranging from monthly contributions from kshs.100, 200, 400, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 etc to target 40000 fans throughout the country.
    8. ORGANISATION STRUCTURE: Come up with governance structure and transparency blue point to build confidence of fans and other stakeholders.
    9. CIVIC EDUCATION AND SENSITISING FANS: Develop training programme for fans to avoid incidences of hooliganisms.
    10. DEVOLUTION STRUCTURE: Empower branches to co-ordinate club activities.
    11. OPEN DAYS AND FANS DIALOGUE: Have club open days with fans to encourage dialogues and understanding of clubs on weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis
    12. EXPLORE CAPITAL MARKET FUND RAISING OPPORTUNITIES: Develop massive fund raising activities such as exploring avenues of fundraising from the public under capital markets authority rules through IPO or private placement
    13. INTERNAL CONTROLS AND ACCOUNTABILITY: Appoint external auditor.
    14. GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE: Establish board of directors during the transition period that will see club’s long term strategy, vision and mission statement being developed with clubs core values and strategic intent.
    15. BROADCASTING OPPORTUNITIES: Set up Gor Mahia TV that will work together with the league sponsors to bring live matches that are not shown by DSTV.
    16. FOOTBALL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Set up academies of all age categories such as under 12, under 15, under 18 and under 21 teams with funding to be sourced from government institutions, NGOs and other sponsors.
    17. GENDER SENSITIVITY: Develop women football team that can be associated with our Kogalo divas.
    18. ETHICS AND CODE OF CONDUCT: Develop code of conduct for the new office bearers and publish what the stakeholders expect from our fans in terms of discipline and positive engagements.
    19. STRATEGIC PLAN: Develop a 3 – year strategic plan of Gor Mahia with clear and sound objectives that include our mission statement, vision and core values that should be circulated to fans and other stakeholders.
    20. SUSTAINABLE FINANCIAL BASE: Develop a long term and sustainable fund raising strategies without over burdening the fans
    21. MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME: Develop a leadership programme for future club leaders, board of directors and management.
    22. STRATEGIC ALLIANCES AND PARTNERSHIPS: Develop alliances and partnership with foreign football clubs and academies in Europe (Manchester United, Arsenal. Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Lyon, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Inter Milan, AC Milan, etc) African teams (Zamalek, Supersports, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Sundown, Esperance, Asec, Asante Kotoko etc), South American clus (Corinthians, Boca Juniors, São Paulo, Independiente, River Plate, Flamengo, River Plate, Velez Sarsfield, Nacional, Santos etc), North American teams (D.C. United, Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, Real Salt Lake, Kansas City Wizards, Red Bull, Cruz Azul, Pachuca, UNAM, Guadalajara, etc).

Above are some of the good ideas that EC can be explored for the good of the club.

@jakoyo your arguments are baseless, you have to know that the car to be bought is meant for the coach of GM not only Logarusic. And he did not ask for it. It is only wise to have a car for such purpose. Let us all support this initiative.

  • Mboya Obendi

Gentlemen the idea for this project is sound lets all give it the requisit support . The car is for Gor and not for an individual. Coatches come and go but Gor and property remain. May I request Ec to organise a friendly for the coming week end with the Ghana’s team who are training in the country. The week end a head may turn out to be very boring without any entertaining foot ball match.

Our EC should not play child games of soliciting money through baseless harambee in the “PROJECT OF BUYING A CAR FOR COACH”. Stop stealing gate collections first.

If after winning Super 8 the likes of G.BWANA and his peers were scrambling for medals and arguing with logarusic on who should be last one to be honoured and what if you have club car[4-wheel] for coach in quotes. WHY ON EARTH WILL THIS HYENA NOT FIGHT FOR THE CAR IN THE EVENT THE COACH IS AVAILABLE.STOP FOOLING PEOPLE.

Guys, the car is not for Lugarusic but for the coach. There is therefore no wisdom in waiting till season end. However, Gor Mahia is a club capable of attracting a corporate sponsor to buy the coach a car. I therefore dont see any reason for fund raiser unless Mr. Bwana is telling us he is incapable selling the idea to sponsors. Also, you could raise the money by doubling gate collection for the remaining home matches. One thing I can assure you, the Match between GM and Tusker could net over 4m if properly managed and hyped. There are so many sources of funds Mr. Bwana. Corporate sponsors are waiting in the wings. Just make the club management more credible and transparent. Mboya Abedi’s suggestion is in fact very briliant!! You will net the money in that match!!

What is coming out from this discussion is that there is need to have a fleet of atleast 4 cars to add to the bus as part of Gor Mahia’s motor vehicle inventory. It is also clear that this idea cannot be embraced by the K’Ogalo fan base because history persuades them not to trust such moves by the EC.

Only good structures, shrewd and transparent finacial management as well as sound and committed administration can clear such mistrust and help GM make even greater strides towards stability and self sustenence.

My question is: has the need for U18 side become less of a priority? Have we forgotten the need to have a feeder system for the senior side?

get the coach a car. even if he is to resign he will not go back to europe with it. the car like bus will belong to gor. what i ask is that there is a good plan to finance and maintain the car. of the assistant coach and the rest. pls understand that loga has his own contract, in other words, the assistant coach has his own contract and should not look at the coaches plate. get your own terms. if logar has a hse, my question to the assistant, why were you not given one, and what is ur pay package. so why is the club giving you less and why did you accept? my point is the value logar has brought to gor is high. my questions are actually adressing the local coaches. i said before: you accept pitiful amounts as wages and let urself be controlled by the ec, what else do you expect, the fact is that you can be sacked any time. recently there are coaches whinning about clubs going for foreign coaches, the reason is that you guys have failed, ur not necessarily bad coaches but one thng i can accuse you guys of is that you have no spine. so , pls if the foreigners come and produce results while all along you had the chance, why make noise. if a journey man can come to afc and make them title contenders, why should he not be given a plane if he asks for one. give loga the car wether he asked for it or not, the gor coach must be comfortable. he needs the inspiration.

Priorities Priorities- This comes hot in the heels of my tabulation of how fans have raised Kshs16.5million in gate collections.
1.Before the harambee let EC give branches an interim statement of accounts.
2.As stated what about the assistant coach and TM.
3.Why a 4-wheel drive? Is Maasai Mara our home ground?.Surely with 2.2million GMFC can get two very good saloon vehicles.
4.Am sorry to say but some EC members might simply be taking advantage of the “feel good factor” among GMFC fans.
5.Have the EC cleared the bus loan though fans fully harambeed for the vehicle.

Though am a big supporter of Logarusic but lets tie him down to a long term contract and also GMFC is more than Logarusic- What about players welfare is it the best. Are they being dropped at home to/from training etc?.

@papamiky you are entitled to your own opinion and so is your democratic right to be heard loud and clear just like those of us who are against “DAY LIGHT LOOTING”.

Please read in between the lines on comments posted by @jakoyo ,@kassam mwivangano and @duor12 once more with a sober and open mind.

@papamiky stop being skeptical, emotional and reason up with some of us who are scrutinizing and combing the corrupt individuals within the EC based on facts.

We are not against GM development per say ; but our concern is mismanagement and misappropriation of funds.
If log contracts entails accommodation in a five star hotel and a 4-wheel car as part of his working tool, our EC must have budgeted on the same while managing the guy IN.

It is as simple increasing our home games gate charges and let main-stand pay 650kshs and Russia 250 kshs period. And then reducing gate collection theft by 99.9% and we will be home and dry even if LOG wants a jet or automatic toilet. But this impromptu “harambees” confirms lack of basic enterprise and strategic plan.

@ Papamiky and Dinga when at the harambee:

Ask Bwana what became of the TENDER FIASCO.
Ask him to explain why EC has not engaged G4S,BM Security Services or the rationale for EC printing tickets.
Ask him why the loan was taken to pay for the bus when fans fully harambeed for the vehicle.
Ask him if all players / technical bench dues are paid up to date.
Ask him does Logarusic now have a long term contract and how will it be funded.Log was asking for about $8,000-10,000 per month.
Remember Logarusic said “MONEY TALKS” and this was immediately after he was given a fully furnished apartment.MONEY TALKS NOT APARTMENTS OR 4 WHEEL VEHICLES
Ask him how much was raised at the Maladen Village dance or Faiz’s harambee dinner.
Ask who are they buying the vehicle from?Coz how did he arrive at 110 branches to contribute kshs.20,000. Why not 10,000 or 15,000.
EC first put in place proper accountable and transparent structures,(and quarterly or half yearly accounts) in the print media are a minimum.
I would have no problem if the branches were the ones calling this harambee but if its Bwana and Faiz, then I all I can say every one is free to do what they want with their money.
EC is targeting the very idea generated by this blog that branches/fans can generate income for the GMFC through membership but are instead making branches/fans a CASH COW THROUGH HARAMBEES which they will not account for.

    obviously from the debate it’s only clear that the EC does not communicate effectively with it’s supporters. so what one deciphers here are more on issues of accountability. there is alot of mistrust. now the question is;
1.why does the EC not bother with telling us how money is being used?- statement of accounts
    2. is gor ‘rich’ or are we in a fantasy(yaani are the supporters get takings enough to by)
    3. is money being lost (tranlate being eaten) at chez gor?
    4. with all these questions being asked is there anythng that we can do about it?
    5. finally is this EC being responsible(read can they manage gor) or are we waiting for soem disaster.

i must say that the EC really needs to come out and answer the questions before someone presses panic mode button. the least the EC shuold do is call the various branch officials and answer these questions and let the news trickle down.

Some of us who are members let’s use the branch chairmen to relay this info. Unless we are acknowledging that our branch chairpersons are not in touch with the EC. Otherwise let’s say who in EC we are not happy with instead of lumping them all together. Let’s also give suggestions and not demands from the EC. That’s how we will build GM. Look at how the scramble for office affected AFC. We are not immune to that as fans of both teams have the same reactions when things are not going their way.
