Gor Mahia to hold Weekly Press Conference

After enacting a player code of conduct that included the ban on mobile phones in camp, journalists have a sigh of relief as Gor Mahia has announced that they will be holding a weekly press briefing ahead of their Kenyan Premier League matches.

According to Secretary General George Bwana, the coach and a chosen player will be interviewed by the press a day prior to the match-day.

Press day

-There will be weekly interviews by the coach and a selected player so that the press can get time to talk to particular players.

-Mostly it will be a day before the game, probably on a Friday; for journalists to ask questions and get clarifications on certain issues, Bwana told futaa.com.

Gor becomes the first Kenyan Premier League team to initiate such a noble idea.

This is a cosmetic change which does not add value. It does not translate to goals that we require to win matches. If anything it may take us back to where we were where players talk elephants and raise the expectations of fans but deliver rabbits come the match.

They should do the talking with the ball and not with the press: the time for that will come when all the departments of the team shall be cohesive; when GM will be playing like a well-oiled machine.

Without mentioning names, let me say that whoever is behind this idea ‘anadanganya mtoto na peremende’. There are more meaningful changes we want effected. Is this the Gor Mahia youth team? Is it the M-Pesa account? Is it the club’s official website? Is it the statement of accounts? Is it the management board? Is it etc?

This idea rivals the other one also mooted by EC that introduces a code of conduct for members of GM executive council in that they are both laughable. Talk of responsible grown-ups who cannot self-direct and must be guided by a code of conduct!

Weekly press conference not bad idea but it should only be PRO whom should speak on behalf club.as per players I think captain or assistance captain can talk. If both are not available the senior most player can talk to press.we dont want to see comedy during press conference.

  • The idea is good but it should fans open day with the coach and press co-ordinated by hired PRO firm.

  • what do you say before the match, why not talk after the match when you have done your work on the pitch

  • When is Gor Mahia going to build a club house which is complete with offices for the management, hostel rooms and a swimming pool for players,a dinning room,a sitting room, showers a small training ground and a parking lot for cars??? 3 acres of land can do all this. Where does all that money go to??? GM is stagnant. Hakuna maendeleo!!!. Fans are always in a party mood even when it is time to get serious with work and development.

  • AS A FAN WHO PAYS FOR MATCH TICKETS I BEG THEE GORMAHIA NOT TO EMBARRASS ME AGAIN BY RETROGRESSIVE STORIES IN THE MEDIA. PLEASE LET TOMORROWS SPORTS HEADLINES IN THE MEDIA BE,” GOR SIGNS 4 YEARS DEAL WITH E.A PORTLAND CEMENT TO BUILD CLUB HOUSE”. THAT WILL BE VERY GOOD NEWS THAT EVERYONE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR, NOT THE CURRENT NEWS THAT WE SEE AND HEAR!

Gor Mahia has lots of stories and expectations but just like Arsenal team (EPL), when we need results that’s when we breakdown. I hope the new coach will be more cautious about fielding and unnecessary signings that don’t eventually add values so that we can be somewhere. By now we should be talking of winning the league in recent years but not histories of 1970s when some of us were not born.

By the way I’ve read about players being relieved of their duties but I think for Dan Makori we should have given him more time. Hopefully George Odhis(Blackberry) will come during the June 2012 transfer.
