Who are CNAPS of Madagascar (Gor Mahia’s opponents)
The draw for the 2015 Africa champions league has been made. Gor Mahia have been pitted against CNAPs of Madagascar. The first leg of the preliminary round will be played between 13th and 15th February in Nairobi while the return leg will be from 27th February to 1st March in Madagascar. The winner will play against AC Leopards of Congo-Brazzaville in the first round
Who are CNAPS
CNAPs which stands for Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale Madagascar is the team sponsored by the national sociel welfare organization of Madagascar. Like Gor Mahia, they have won the national league two times in a row (2013 and 2014). They also won the league in 2010 making a total of 3 league wins. They won the Madagascar cup only once in 2011 and the Supercup once (2011).
The club does not have much of a history. In Madagascar, the turnover of teams is very high and teams last for only about 5-10 years.
In 2014, they were eliminated in the preliminary round of the Africa champions league after losing 0-1 to Liga Muculmana of Mozambique. They are based in Mianarivo which is 100 km from the capital Antananarivo.
Their squad is built entirely of players from Madagascar, not a single foreigner. And seven of them play for the Madagascan national team including goalkeeper Anatole Ndriamparany, defender Tobisoa Njakanirina, midfielders Mickael Rabeson, Jimmy Simouri and Njiva Rakotoharimalala, striker Jeannot Vombola and another defender with the comical name Pierralit Tovonay
On another note, now that the draw has been made, should Gor Mahia pull out of the competition, in addition to a hefty fine, they face a 3 year ban from CAF related activities.
We this kind of a draw, i think we can reach 3rd round because even that team from DRC is beatable. All we need is early preparations and an additional of three players. Mr Rachier, put kogalo houre in order and get things moving please
We shouldn’t be thinking of withdrawal. I think the best option is to utilize what we’ve got properly and our good performance will attract sponsors.
Proper preparations will get us sponsors. After all we have KWS and Standard newspapers as patners. The thing is how to convert this into sponsorship

This is the first time in recent years that I fear for GM in the preliminary round. The team that lost to Ferroviario in 2012 is stronger than this one. And it had players like Makori, Kitawi, Anguyo, Gattuso, Moses Otieno, Abondo , Ngwa etc………….
This year they have signed nobody.
@Joe Riaga, I think it is a bit too premature to start claiming that Gor has signed nobody. Gor are known for last minute signings. Remember Mosoti was signed on the the last day of tranfer Window. So was Shakava. We have until 15th Jan to submit the list to CAF. Sina wasiwasi hata kidogo.
On another note, a lethal striker from UG is on his way to Kogallo. Hopefully the deal will be closed in good time. He is unknown to most of us. Kogallo scouts were here trying to finalize the deal. No need to worry about established boys, we leave that to AFC, Tusker na kale ka team kengine. Gor will build this young chap as usual. Watch this space.

Ambrose Rachier, kindly wake up and provide leadership to the GOR MAHIA EC. You’re not the Chairman of a kalongolongo club but of 14 times Kenyan Champions. The two teams that we are likely to meet if we beat the Madagascan team are AC Leopards of Congo Rep in Round 1 and Enyimba of Nigeria in round 2. Theol are teams that require adequate preparations if we are to entertain any dream of beating them. Enyimba was African Champions in 2003 and 2004. They gave been perennial participants in African Cup Competition. AC LEOPARDS were the CONFEDERATION CUP Champions in 2012 beating DJOLIBA of Mali. It’s therefore paramount that adequate and intensive recruitment of quality players be undertaken to replace those that left. Failure to address the quality of our purchases and the team in general will be tantamount to sacrilegious neglect of duty.
There is still time. I also wish things were done quietly as opposed to the usual empty statements.
It amazes me whenever I read posts like-1. there is still time to do transfer businesses 2. Gor Mahia thrives on sealing late deals. 3. We should be secretive with our signings etc.
Fellow followers, don’t be offended but read this piece and judge after. I disagree as follows. 1. You need money to bring back all players early together for preseason and team building. 2. Individual players are great and can win you a tournaments but a team will win you championships. 3. We play on 15-02-15 and that’s less than 2 months from now. We do not have the money and that’s why no player has reported for preseason. You need players to come back to be put through their Paces before you can even talk about tactics and formations. Fitness is key and those talking about us having adequate time to prepare- are totally wrong, lost and out of order.
No wonder only the Sudanese teams – El Mereikh and Al Hilal are the only ones to make the group stages of any CAF Competition from this region. They take their preparations more seriously. Ask Allan Wanga for an idea if you doubt this. Their preparations for 2015 CAF Champions League has already begun. They are currently preparing to play friendly matches against top European Teams. They are camping in Europe. Gor Mahia are yet to recall their players from Holidays neither have they signed any player to replace the ones who have decamped. Don’t forget they have lost 2 of their last season’s best players in Danny and Baba.
Mana no longer falls from heaven, we shall reap what we have sowed. Ill preparation means – early Elimination from CAF Competitions and other competitions.
Let’s face it and accept it- We don’t have money to compete in Africa. We once again wants to build a team with the local mentality for local competitions- 1. FKF League. 2. Top 8 and DSTV Shield. CECAFA is dead so we don’t have to raise our hopes any higher.
We should have accepted our place and pulled out earlier like Power Dynamos of Zimbabwe did. We shall not compete effectively in CAF Champions League without Sponsorship. We DO NOT have money ladies and gentlemen. Thank you.
I am very surprised with comments being posted on this site by fellow bloggers like Le Pastre, Jakoyo, etc. We have no obligations as bloggers to demand for either club to pull out from CAF or EC to tell public on what players they are recruiting. These are utterly nonsense and our job as bloggers is to support the team morally, financially, physically, mentally and spiritually if all these terms are applicable.
@Jamigori you are spot on. Just like @Kosero always is. We claim that the club has not money yet we know we are the ones always chest thumping of how we have the best fan base. If this fan base was to ‘donate’ some 500/= each this xmas season our players would have a merry xmass and we would aso be able to pay some signing fee for ‘great’ players we are craving for. We have the 350100 and 22840 numbers as well as other nummerous avenues. Who are we waiting for to assist the team while we whine?
As far as I know we should’t be worried about the transfer activities so far as this will just mess up the market. We all know that whoever we identify Ingwe always gets in to mess the cost even with no intention of buying
From my standing or sitting point, I can validate every point made here. You just need to read between the lines of my every comment and you will not be lost in the maze of trying to draw conclusions that are alien to I the author. Who doesn’t know that every competition entered into requires adequate preparation!!! For the CAF CGAMPIONS LEAGUE, I am sorry to burst your bubble, we cannot compete but we can participate. Our contemporaries- the Asec Mimosa, Wydad Cassablanca, Al Ahly, Zamalek, Enyimba, Cotton Sport, Hearts of Oak, Ahsante Kotoko, TP Mazembe, El Mereikh, Al Hilal would all laugh at our preparation for the CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.
