Ze Maria: “We were unlucky”

Gor Mahia coach Ze Maria thinks a combination of bad luck and poor refereeing cost Gor Mahia two points against Thka United on Sunday.

“We created many chances and should have won the match in the first half, but the strikers were not lucky (drew 1-1 with Thika United). I also feel that the referee should have added more than just five minutes at the end of regular time. Thika were always on the ground during the second half. They didn’t play at all, just wasting time. I think we played only 35 minutes in the second half.” he said to the KPL website.

In  a post match interview, Ze Maria had indicated that he thinks small teams play their best and put in their best effort against Gor Mahia. But the Brazilian tactician is yet to come up with a formula to avoid losing points against bottom feeder clubs. This season, Kogalo have lost to Western Stima, Mathare United and almost lost to bottom side Thika United.

Gor Mahia to play Rangers at Afraha

This Sunday’s league match against Posta Rangers will be played at Afraha stadium. Posta Rangers initially indicated that the match would be played at Nyayo but they have been turned down by Nyayo stadium management.

Was Timothy Otieno punched by Muyoti

Thika United coach Nicholas Muyoti is denying allegations that he punched Timothy Otieno. The Gor Mahia striker accused Muyoti of punching him during the melee that involved players from both teams.

“I even do not know where that came from. In my capacity as a coach, there are things I definitely cannot do. I have been a player for long and the experience plus my reputation cannot allow me to do such.

“When that incident happened, we went to solve it, not to fuel it and I wonder why he is raising such against me, but I think it is because of the pressure,” said Muyoti to goal.com

  • The referee should have added more time or even better, allowed the five added to extend as most of it was spent not playing with Emase lying on the ground. To play devil’s advocate, teams resort to time wasting the world over and while it is negative football, they are not breaking any law and it is upon us to break them in the normal playing time. We played 35 minutes of the second half yes and added to 45 in the first that is a full 80 minutes. Next time I pray we fight to beat them in the 80 played than complain about the 10 lost.

    • I agree with you but again let our EC take it up. This is the second such complaint,EC MUST TAKE ACTION. It’s a serious allegation. Was it brought to the attention of the referee that the time had not lapsed? Was the match commissioner alerted? Has an official protest/complaint been lodged?

  • So,when we win we are “LUCKY!” C’mon Ze Maria tell it to the birds, your excuses don’t inspire confidence. As coach get more clinical strikers. Tell EC I want so and so because given even 1/2 a chance he will score or i want strikers with scoring rate of at least 1 goal per every 2 games. That’s if you can’t get any local talent.Muyoti is not even allowed to move outside his restricted area so he is guilty. EC take action! Where is the vocal Nyangi? Wapi Ngala? Finally some regional soccer. Hope this opens Ze Maria eyes wider and he can tap 2/3 players to solve team’s shortcomings which are not many. Your system needs that much more gifted (thinking while tiki takaing) players to thrive.

  • Surprisingly, the coach don’t even talk of areas to beef up,the forward line needs reinforcement but zemaria is complacent. He relies on luck to win matches while other teams are breathing down our necks. My suggestion: off load two passive forwards and bring in one striker and an attacking midfielder.

My take is very simple. ZE MARIA is just too soft and lack the authoritative figure-head on the touchline. Do you think LOGA or NUTTAL could stomach such kind of wastefulness with lethargic fielding of players in the name of squad rotation.

And then here you are with your flimsy chorus of excuses. Come on ZE MARIA smell the coffee and wake up; you are living along a very thin line as the head of TB. And of cause as a harden K’Ogalo follower and not a plastic one for that matter i can assure you that our tolerance is soon hitting the roof top and thereafter that we have no
alternative but …………. “TO CALL A SPADE A SPADE AND NOT A BIG SPOON”.

Look at how Wellington Ochieng was behaving during the match and tell me if he was the field captain. Running amok like a wild zombie all over the pitch whenever there is an infringement on K’Ogalo players. Is he not the cause of time wasting through his unsporting behavior. In other leagues this guy should have been sent off with a red card.
Ze Maria has a lot dressing room pep talk to do with this boys before their heads get THICK & HARD. Time wasting is part and parcel of modern football , so stop yapping and being a cry baby as your players egocentric and selfish attitude take toll on their
    mediocre performance.
THIKA simply outclassed our boys and gained confidence after we wasted numerous scoring opportunity and statistics don’t lie. Bonnie bailed out K’Ogalo more than three time after the defense was caught napping. This nonsense of luck can’t hold anymore.

  • There’s a batter replacement out there…..There nothing we can do since he is reluctant to extend his stay….With Migi it’s a high time for him to try his luck elsewhere. ..

Ze Maria, i have a few words for you my friend. If in this small Kalongolongo matches you are always claiming this or that, one excuse after another. In this kalongolongo matches with kalongolongo teams? What about if you will face the Arabs with all their dirty tricks at home? The West Africans? Where all the police, immigration, media, fans will be up against you? What will you say in real matches like those?
