Gor Mahia to play Supersport United of South Africa
Gor Mahia will play against Super Sport United in the playoff round of the 2018 CAF Confederations cup. Gor Mahia have dropped one tier from the Champions League to the Confederations cup after narrowly losing to Esperance of Tunisia.
The first leg of the playoff round will be played between April 6 and April 8 in Kenya with the second leg being played April 17 or April 18 likely at Supersport United’s homeground, the Lucas Moripe stadium in Pretoria.
Supersport eliminated Petro de Luanda in the first round 2-1 on aggregate. They are currently in 14th place in the South African premier league and they finished 5th in the previous season. They qualified for the Confederations cup by winning the 2017 Nedbank cup. Until recently they were coached by former South Africa international, Eric Tinkler who was released 3 weeks ago.
In 2014 Supersport eliminated AFC Leopards from the Confederation cup 4-2 on aggregate. As for Gor Mahia, they last played against a South African side in 1993 in the CAF cup. It was Hellenic of Cape Town. They beat Kogalo 3-1 in the first leg. But Gor Mahia won the return leg 2-0, thus advancing on away goals rule.
Sadly,Nyayo Stadium will likely not be available thus Gor Mahia will be denied a sizeble portion of “home support”.This will reduce both the morale/financial boost K’Ogalo players/club would have gotten if the match would be played in the more easily accessible, bigger Nyayo/Kasarani stadia. Am still bemused that some bloggers believe that mature season players should not be criticized for not delivering on their roles. We’re not talking about young promising new players but rather mature professionals with +5 years in not only the KPL but also other leagues.They must prove that they have enough quality to perform at CAF level, at least at the low tier Confed Cup.We have seen them struggle in the local competitions but somehow TB and EC kept faith in them. Hopefully they will deliver given that the new forwards are either injured or still adapting (e.g experienced Mieno). Congrats to all the new/young players who have stepped up Joachim,Ongusso etc. Jausenge,BB,Kagere etc wake up we need goals at CAF.
We will all be happy if player criticism will give us results. I may be ignorant but it seems criticism is also a component in coaching, then Kerr should be doing this more often
Kerr is not off the hook but at K’Ogalo we have the very puzzling and unique tradition whereby our head coach is always away on holiday during the transfer period. Who really signs players at GM, the TB or the EC. Even Ker has lamented loudly about “missed chances e.g upto 6 scoring opportunities wasted against Esperance in Machakos. Allow me to mention the following high profile passengers as examples, no.27, Odula, Jean Baptiste. Hopefully Mieno will not fall into that category. Did the head coach really observe and sign them only for them to disappoint. Lastly, even EC is not off the hook as a player like Walu can and has won crucial games. To miss his services because of unfulfilled /empty promises is a let down.

This Stadium business has really not only let us down but hurt us to the core. It has shown that the Nairobi based fans are not able to get to Machakos in their droves to give both financial and moral support.. It is just not coming, Gor not meeting the bills as recently happened is not acceptable in this day and age. It is a big team. For me this unfortunate situation has rekindled the need for the club to continue pursuing the goal of having their own field.
If these marches were played in Kisumu a lot of money would have been realised, especially the Esperance game. My second opinion is that the Stadium in Kisumu should be brought up to standards with a lot of speed. The environmental hazard “dumping site” should be relocated as soon as yesterday. Gor being the team that it is and thinking big, is fast and quickly breaking into the ranks where soccer is real soccer. Can’t we even sea that they will be back to pick up where they have just left. They have an unfinished business with Esperance next year. My urge is that the County Government of Kisumu should hit the iron while it is still hot. What we see in Machakos is that it is a stadium built at the wrong place as far as football is concerned. Most of the people the people do not even leave alone being aware of games being played. Imagine Kisumu, People would from far flung towns to watch.With the rains still pounding I can;t imagine just how that Machakos field will be looking like when we play Super Sport.This is the of my heart too.
If we can’t eliminate ss utd then we should ask our selves if we really need the foreign players. we can’t have them for the local league only
Now God has done his part,giving us beautiful opposition.SA has teams that play open,attractive football devoid of any ill-will or antics or uncouth characters like Esperance.Game will be open both legs so we Must Score & Win at home then strategize for return leg.Striking in GM has been a problem for so long hence why guikan came to try solve that dept.Even if fans try praise & worshipping players ati they tried…Tried what?I am employed to work & whenever i don’t deliver on my ToR’s am called out & reprimanded by my Board period.Players are in GM to perform so those defeatist attitudes of we just cheer them on & deal with heartbreaks continentally since we will most likely retain the local sub-standard league can’t be tolerated.Zesco lost 2-0 home but went to Abidjan and eliminated Asec Mimosas by scoring & scoring.Is asking GM to win a game and go back to continental football a Crime?Lethargy of being mere representatives must end Now,i will be moving & shifting things in that squad as Kerr listens to me very well…If We still fail,the striking unit will be re-structured more and more and more come june even if sacrifices must be made on foreign team composition

Supersport United of South Africa is a strong team. They reached the finals of CAF Confederations cup in 2017 where they played against TP Mazembe of DRC and lost away 2-1 and drew in South Africa 0-0. It is a good team. Gor Mahia need to prepare well. Gor Mahia officials need to find ways of paying players even if it is fundraising, so that none
of them boycotts the way Walusimbi recently did against Esperance.
Success of Gor mahia to the group stage must be known during the first leg at home, no wasting of chances this time round. Tuysenge to be kept away from home league matches to avoid injuries, he is a special striker.

Fair opposition that’s what I can say. I believe in a fully fit Guikan to lift us, I believe. But Kenya oooh my country, where do we play such matches?
Out of the 24 league matches played, Supersport has only won 6 lost 9 and drawn 9. They are currently fighting relegation in PLS and can be compared to Thika united or Vihiga.Gor must grab this opportunity and redeem itself. Scoring goals at home is a must and not luckily. Winning the first leg in Kenya is mandatory.

Gor is hoping to advance to group stages against a South African side. Ok, it’s possible. How will they do it without scoring goals?
The team will play well in Machakos, miss uncountable chances and waste millions traveling to South Africa to go lose the return leg there.
So Tuyisenge and Kagere can’t score. If we really need strikers who can’t score, let us recruit from Thur Gem or Kakamega High. No need having highly paid nondescripts running around the pitch for 90 min without scoring a goal. In Machakos the team defended well. Midfield was fine. How do I rate the strikers if they couldn’t score a goal?

If someone believes Ze Maria was hounded out on this blog then I think dumbness has just hit a new high…the guy resigned to take a better paying job for which I cant blame him. But all must agree that since the day he left Gor has been a better team a thousand fold.
The list of experienced forwards who are not delivering includes BlackBerry. These are seasoned players who usually drive a hard bargain with potracted contract negotiations. Remember BB playing hard ball by “considering several other offers” before finally accepting to renew his contract. Seasoned players cost the club an arm and a leg in both signing fees and monthly salary. Even The good books says to whom much is given much is expected. Experienced professionals like Mieno, BB, Jausenge etc have no business warming the bench. When they miss 6 clear cut scoring chances, then you fault the players not the coach. However if the team, as during Ze Maria’s era, just passes the ball but rarely threaten the opponent’s goal then that is a coaching /tactical problem. Against Esperance our GK,defense,midfield did their part and held firm. We lost because our strikers couldn’t convert numerous chances that came their way in Machakos, so they must score against SS. MISSED CHANCES DON’T WIN GAMES!
I am among the few who had issues with some of our strikers who can’t shoot straight a long time ago.Please for those who don’t know a striker ngojeni Guikan apone.The guy can shoot on target from crazy angles, has good positioning in the box and if the likes of Tuyisenge can play in off form Berry position leaving Guikan to shake supersport net we will go far
