Gor Mahia to play USM Alger at Kasarani
Good news for Kogalo fans. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved Kasarani as the venue for the CAF Confederations cup match against USM Alger. Club CEO Omondi Aduda confirmed the same.
“Our prayers have been answered and we are now good to go. Caf have written to FKF confirming that they have approved our request to have Kasarani as the main venue for the remaining Caf matches.” said Aduda to goal.com
Earlier on, the match was scheduled for Machakos. With the match now at Kasarani, Gor Mahia are assured of a better attendance due to its closer proximity to the City. Now its up to the club to set reasonable ticket prices in order to pull a larger crowd.
The USM Alger match will be played on Wednesday May 16. Prior to Hull City, Gor Mahia will test their strength against English second tier side Hull City. This match will also be played at Kasarani on May 13.
Coach Dylan Kerr is happy that his side will have a good build up match.
“I am glad that we shall face a tough opponent in Hull City,” he told KweséESPN. “This is not some small team, but a team which will test us in all aspects.
“Playing the English side will be a true test for us a few days before we host Algeria’s USM Alger in the second Group D match,” he added. “We are delighted that we defeated AFC Leopards to qualify to face the visiting Hull side.
“Every team seems much comfortable playing at home,” Kerr continued, looking back at Gor’s draw with Rayon, “but we have what it takes to go win our next game at home and also travel away and pick up points.” concluded Kerr.
USM Alger promises to be a tough encounter. Aside from beating Yanga 4-0 last weekend, they had also beaten Plateau United of Nigeria 4-0 in the previous round. Coach Kerr is under no illusions about how difficult the game will be.
“We need to beat USM Alger to brighten our chances of progressing to the latter stages of the CAF Confederation Cup,” he added. “It makes the game against Hull City very important.
“Everybody thinks they can get out of the group, but it will all depend on who wants it more and we surely have the material, hunger and motivation to make it to the quarter finals.”
Rwandese striker Meddie Kagere is also looking forward to playing Hull City.
“I know we shall use this match as a build-up before we host [USM Alger],” told KweséESPN, “so it will be a very important game that I am looking forward to.”

USM’s scouts will definitely be at Kasarani during the Hull City match, but who cares?
What is even more reassuring is the chemistry between the TB and the playing unit. Take a look at what Ker thinks of the boys:
“Speaking in Bukhungu shortly after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz in their mid-week Premier League encounter, Kerr maintained that all the players he has in the team are equal to the task and each will be given an opportunity to prove himself.
“This is a special team of high quality,” he said. “We want to make history by winning as many titles as possible and this can only happen through maintaining the fitness level of the players.”
“As a coach, I don’t like categorising the individual players. Everyone will remain special to me and the team and each will be fielded on merit, through hard work,” pointed out Kerr.
He also paid tribute to some of the players who have remained patient while working hard for their place in the first team, something that has seen his sides depth strengthen.
“I am impressed by Euphrem Guikan, who has proved to the team that he is first class striker and also former Kakamega Homeboyz skipper Charles Momanyi who is emerging as a pillar in our back line,” observed Kerr.
I must admit this Kerr coach is something special…the way he talks to his players, talks to the press, open minded approach to issues and most importantly, respect for his TB and the African people at large has really impressed me.
I trust we shall progress to CAF semi final stage!
To me the best thing about the exhibition match against Hull City is the 100bob price for the terrace ticket otherwise Kerr’s sentimental attachment to playing any english team is understandable despite the fatigue it will cause.Kudos EC, yes it’s no mistake I said Kudos EC. With that pricing expect some good returns because of the large capacity of the Kasarani Stadium. Maintain the same pricing against USM Algiers but EC PLEASE NOW DECLARE THE GATE COLLECTIONS AND BE TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE. PAY PLAYERS AND TB ALL DUES/WELFARE FIRST AND WE WILL QUALIFY FOR THE CCC QUARTERS. Kerr’s strongest point is that he has no favourites, the “sacred cow”, “senior player” no longer guarantee one a place in the starting 18. Come June transfer Kerr will “reenforce with better players and offload the “passengers” so K’Ogalo our team will be better/improved even if your or my favourite player may be dropped. I salute Kerr for totally taming EC interferance and making meritocracy the only criteria for selection.
Oduor12 Osiepa,i want to politely disagree on an aspect you have pointed out severally.You refer to offloading of “passengers’ which to me i don’t believe the current gor mahia squad has any.We have 30 quality players of different strengths & capabilities but no passengers.Even those who may not have had an instant impact e.g mieno,cersidy are picking up.Or is it Lokuwam who is a young prodigy in the making.Some seasons back we had alot of passengers i agree like Crispin Odula,Jacob Keli,Agwanda,Baggio,Juma the current KK homeboyz keeper etc but they aptly got offloaded i believe.This current GM Pek ka Mwanda & just needs minimal re-inforcement especially number 8 box to box player who dictates play and is stong as a Mule.On that i have referred Solomon Mensah to Sir Kerr who will decide on the merits of such a signing if it is warranted…
We are actually in agreement,any addition that can make Mighy Gor Mahia better or more solid is welcome together with the neccessary corresponding exit(s). In my view, as has been well articulated on this site, we still need to beef up every departments (some more than others) from GK to striking especially with the competitive nature of CAF and fixture congestion that may be come with Shield, CECAFA and H.Stars fixtures.
At Kigali it was an equivalent of Kshs.2300, bwana. and the stadium was full kaa kanisa jokopere. Tafakari hayo.
Ngala is quoted on Goal.com saying Gor will not sign any player in the June window. It is the same Ngala who was quoted two months ago saying that the team needs to sign two strikers. This begs the question: Is he expressing his personal opinion or that of Kerr and the TB? Whichever the case why are we this confused?
Let people stick to their portfolios. Yeye anayasema hayo kama nani? Perhaps he is putting the brokers on notice. Remember the transfer window means a windfall period for some businessmen.
After so much hype, Hell City name youngsters and fringe players i.e passengers for exhibition match against highly rated Mighty K’Ogalo. Hiyo ni madharau, especially given that we postphoned a crucial league match to accomodate them, bure kabisa let’s teach them a footballing lesson they won’t forget but keep focus on the CAF USM Algiers match a game we must win or at the very least draw.
Then let Kerr use this to sharpen his second unit with players like Odhoji, Peter Odhiambo, Maqbul etc. And rest key players for the USM Alger match
Thank God Kasarani will be the venue. Due to its proximity to the City, indeed the attendance will be much better. I think that a great number of the people around and outside the city are yearning to see a good game. This despite them being Gor fans or not. They just want to have a new experience. I think Gor has become a game changer both locally and internationally. One will not be surprised if football lovers from our neighboring countries pop in to watch either Hull City or USM play Gor. These are just my thoughts.
For need to one strong Central defender, one no.8 and Avery skill full striker then the squad will be OK
Ordinarily a team should have one known 1st eleven , but different situations sometimes call for different strategies , in Gor Mahia’s case , the fixtures congestion makes it mandatory that we must resort to our depth and hence the rotation , another factor is consistency e.g is Boniface Oluoch consistent , how about Mieno , Berry or Shakava or Guikan? , I am of the opinion that they are not and as such it is beholden of the other players to make full use of these opportunity to show the coach and indeed the entire Kogalo fraternity that they are the better option .
One good thing is beginning to come out of all this going by the coach’s sentiments , that your apparent big name alone is not a guarantee of being fielded in this team .
Sometimes , we the fans ask questions of y so and so has not been fielded , the answer is that it is what you do in training that determines whether u r fielded or not , it is a matter of fact without naming any names that some of the big name players are currently on a downward trajectory , have become complacent and too comfortable , no longer showing the drive , hunger or ambition coz probably they feel they no longer have anything to proove and its incumbent upon the younger , less known players to grab this opportunity to grab the opportunities playing for Gor mahia provides .
I disagree with Ngala if at all he says we dont need to recruit in June , probably his assertion is driven by the huge gap between as and our local competitors , but that is a place we long left a long time ago and for now when we recruit , we must do it with the likes of Espereance , Mamelody Sundowns , TP Mazembe , Zemalek in mind , those are now our contemporaries and not Efusi , Ulinzi , Tusker and the rest of the Kienyejies .
Boniface Oluoch happens to be the best goalkeeper we have and indeed the whole of the country , but the problem with our guy is that he is too erratic and the problem with this is that it puts a lot of pressure on the defenders but the question is , since he is the best , where do we get somebody else to give him competion , Odhonji no offence intended is not an option .
Lastly , there is a football journalist by the naming Fred Arrocho of Jambo Fm , who has baselessly been yapping himself hoarse that Gor is incapable of defeating mwarabu on a fine flat pitch , let as deny him his I TOLD U SO MOMENT .

English side Hull City is hopeful of getting a win against Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.
Head of Hull City medical team Rob Price says Gor Mahia is a good side that promises a tough game. “We want to win the match, every team plays to win and we are hoping for the same,” Price told Goal on Friday.
According to Price, it will be a game like no other, revealing that Hull is weary of the Kenyan champions. “For sure we are worried of Gor Mahia, we have seen their games on videos and we have to be cautious as a team.
“They are also good on penalties and that is why we must be very cautious.”
This will be the second time in one year for Gor Mahia to play an English side having narrowly lost to Everton 2-1 in Tanzania last summer. Hull City will arrive on Friday led by former Manchester United star Freizer Campbell.
A product of Man United’s youth academy, Campbell, who has previously played for, Royal Antwerp, Tottenham, Sunderland, Cardiff City and Crystal Palace, is among the 18 players named by coach Nigel Adkins for the tour of Kenya.

Imagine the on form Kahata, Philemon, Wendo and Gor captain shakava? May be they declined due to Gor’s congested fixtures. Otherwise without Kogalo players in that so called national team then the future is bleak.Minye has started preparing to leave coz he won’t perform.
This Migne chap is stroking the controvesy of “club vs country” too soon mara u20/u23 friendlies, mara one day training camps etc etc. A national team coach accesses/scouts for his players during the league games so that he doesn’t disrupt the clubs and consequently the league. If he persists am sure soon the serious club coaches in KPL will tell him and FKF off starting with K’Ogalo/ Kerr. FKF should support or channel more resources to clubs which are all struggling financially as clubs are the foundation of H.Stars. Meanwhile i’ve noted Hull City finished no.18 out of 24 in the championship yet it is being hyped up so much! Are our standards that low?

I am very happy and relieved that no Gor Mahia player has been called up to the Shisha team.
For me Gor Mahia players missing is not the problem.It is a one day boot camp for Tuesday so Gor Mahia players could not be called up due to our game on Wednesday. What I have a problem with is the criteria. How do you call up a player like Ovella Ochieng who has played only one game? Timothy Odhiambo of Ulinzi played the first few games then was displaced by Jackton so how does he figure ahead of his first team keeper? Yusuf Mainge has played very sparingly for AFC so how does he make the team ahead of say Moses Mburu who has been influential for Ingwe? Ulinzi have been in imperious form of late, second on the log, why have only one player?

Sebastian Minyoo’s resume indicates that he won only one out of seven matches with the Congo national team. Congo being inundated with soccer talent notwithstanding. So all these shenanigans should not surprise anyone.

If I was a Gor Mahia player , I wouldn’t care less whether I am included in the Harambee stars team for now , instead I would factor in the fact that what is ahead of us as Gor Mahia I.e the confed cup offers more opportunities for me in terms of exposure and career progression , Football is a short career and as such there is no time for sentimental decisions such as playing for this harambee stars for now .
As for Nick Mwendwa , stuffing the national team with below average players with the hope that it will result in some in your players getting chances abroad is an exercise in futility bcoz below average will always remain below average and below average in kenya is considered a disaster I.e if we compare our football standards with the exception of Gor Mahia , with what is out there .
So let our players celebrate the fact that they are already in a situation that offers the best way forward . . . .Grab it with both hands and legs
This time round, in case Harambee stars fails to impress,The current TB, Coach Plus Nick Mwendwa should be sent home. The Kenya national team is not one person’s property, neither is it somebody`s Kiok.
