Gor Mahia to restart KPL matches on Sunday

Kogalo are due to resume KPL matches after a long break. After an uninspiring first leg so far, Kogalo fans will be hoping for a much better campaign. In the past two years, Gor Mahia have started the league poorly but finished strongly. After a second place finish last season, Kogalo fans will be hoping for nothing less than a win at this years league. Whether they can dig themselves out of sixth position remains to be seen.

For the beginning of the second leg, Gor Mahia have sought to strengthen their lineup by chasing various established players. Hajji Mwachoki who was released by Thika United has been signed and is apparently already training with the club. Burly striker Wycliff Ochomo has apparently also joined the club.

Among the departures is fan favorite Ibrahim Kitawi. The brilliant Kitawi has been at Kogalo since 2007 and has produced some spectacular perfomances and scored some sensational goals. His perfomance in 2009 even saw him earn a national team call up. However under coach Zico, Kitawi has inexplicably fallen out of favor. We wish him well as he joins Tusker. We hope he will not come back to haunt Kogalo like Dino Kitavi did in 1982. Kitavi had joined the club a few years earlier but found himself way behind the midfield pecking order which already had players like Sammy Owino “Kempes”, Tim Ayieko, Gideon Hamisi, and Jerry Imbo among others. When Kitavi joined Tusker (Then known as Kenya Breweries) , he scored twice to lead them to a 2-1 win over Kogalo in the 1982 league. Kitavi has recently coached various KPL teams including Tusker and AFC. There is no word on Bob Mugalia who had expressed interest in joining the club

Gor Mahia will start their next match at 3pm Sunday at Afraha stadium against Chemelil.

  • bring in powerful strikers and an alternative tall keeper. most of the goals Gerremy coceded were through corners and flanks.
just a thought for ZD, can Lavatsa try playing from extreme right flanks, creating opportunities for himself and others unlike waiting for balls from the middle obvious striking.
our defence so far is superb! midfield….OK.

  • What a big loss to gor by relieving kitawi,it will be like the case of manchester united with teves.THEY later came to admire him.hope ZICO fill all the loopholes to deny him the entry

Honestly what is the logic of having 9 strikers in a single team.(odera,lavatsa,ochom,mwachoki,selenge,luckydube,kevo,owiti,kiplagat).Instead we should have bought an attacking creative midfielder, because we only have gatusso as our engine.I dont’ understand how zico reasons, if chelsea had 4 strikers n it was giving anecloti hard times what about 9 surely?last year we performed because of the consistent patnership of berry & ngwa, any good team in this world always have a consistent striking patnership, but with 9 strikers the coach will always rotate leading to poor perfomance,or how do you guys think about this ?

  • Mwachoki is an attacking midfielder, Ochomo is a striker and Selenge could be played as an attacking midfielder, . . .. .Awilo needs support,so is Wekesa, .. . .. .these guys should gel ASAP, to maximise our chances of winning the title in the absence of Ss9, . . . . .This is NyakwarRamogi mwenyewe

  • MIXED FORTUNES FOR GOR MAHIA

Gor Mahia is starting the second 2011 KPL matches this Sunday with mixed fortunes. First, we mourn the unfair award of ulinzi the final berth of the top 8 tournament. Two, we gonna miss the services of ibrahim kitawi. He was inspirational in the midfield and charming to the fans. Three, pay TV channel, supersport, dealt our club a big blow by blacking out our matches for what they allege as insecurity to their crew & equipment.

These reality must dawn on us as a club that we must take responsibily for our action. As we restart the next round, i plead with our fans to behave responsibily even when referees make decisions that we may not like. Let us also be patient with coach zico as he tries to craft the winning team. I wish to predict that this year’s KPL title will be lifted by k’ogalo.

Let us put our problems behind and focus on the forthcoming fixtures. Am personally psyched to continue cheering my team all the way to the final. What about you?

Johny i thought and still think the same way.. i said the same thing yesterday though in different words.

I’ve always thought at the same time that the 4-3-3 system is the problem not really lack of strikers for those who were in Mumias we saw our game improve towards the end when the midfield was beefed..

We also saw our team outplayed by sofapaka at Nyayo..and in the 1st half against Ulinzi we did not do well coz of a thin midfield.

Also last year we had very young players who stretched the other teams to the limit, i beg to ask if now again we’re going back on the former need for younger players by the kind of recruitment we’re taking? By the way where was kevo in Mumias is he also serving a suspension or injury or whatever..

Guys that is what i think and i must state that i do not have anything personal with the coach or anyone i like many others among so many are just asking questions and do not wish GM anything bad in the season..By the way i believe if we never have had the Gattuso saga maybe we could have won the 1st super eight match and we couldn’t have fought so i may guess!

Kitawi is gone does it mean in Tursker ndiyo kuna bad players where he will fit when we’re breathing heavily to get their Moses Odhiambo?

Anyway i’m not a coach just asking.

  • Agwa, there are rumours that we are pursuing Moses Odhiambo of Tusker. He is a good midfielder and his combination with Gatusso and Vierra plus the other new striking partners might just be what you need. The sad thing is that some players might have to be off-loaded something which is not very pleasant. Maybe we could promote some like Awilo to the technical team. Let’s hope that the new players gel as soon as possible. See you in Nakuru

  • Kogalo badly needs a right back as well as left back. Wekesa has since put on too much weight and can’t seem to attack as much as he used to. At right Awilo should retire and Nasio is a natural centre back. Zico should consider these two positions while strengthening the squad. And we desperately need to start playing midfield football. Our game plan must change when we resume on Sunday. We must create more chances for strikers and that’s only possible with a strong midfield.

  • THOSE WHO ARE PRAISING MWACHOKI HERE HAVE NOT SEEN THE LAD,HE IS A CARBON COPY OF DENNIS WISE.THE FACT THAT TUSKER READILY SIGNED KITAWI TELLS US WHO REALLY WANTS TO WIN THE LEAGUE.OUR MAIN PROBLEM HAS BEEN THE MIDFIELD WHERE GATTUSO IS ALWAYS OVERWORKED.EVEN IN THE NATIONAL TEAM THERE IS NO ONE TO FEED OLIECH ,BUT JUST AS IN GOR ZEDDY IS ALOOF TO THIS .LAVATSA AND ODHIS NEED CREATIVE MIDFIELDERS TO FEED THEM AND THEY WILL KILL OFF ANY TEAM.ODERAS STYLE IS JUST LIKE BARCAS VILLA,A GOOD PLAYER WHO ALWAYS GETS IT RIGHT IN POSITIONING AS HAPPENED AGAINST CONGO UTD.THE DIFFERENCE HERE IS THAT THERE ARE NO CREATIVE MIDFIELDERS TO CREATE SPACE AND SLID THROUGH BALLS.
