Gor Mahia to streamline bloated EC
Gor Mahia is moving closer to implementing its new constitution as they have decided to erase several positions that have existed in the club since its formation in 1968. These were positions that were created in order to bring as many wealthy or well connected officials on board as possible. These wealthy officials were then expected to support the club financially. Thus in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, these positions were occupied by ambitious political aspirants, businessmen and people at the top of corporations who were useful in getting players employment at parastatals like the Postal Corporation, Railways and KPLC. Of late however, these positions haven’t served a useful purpose.

Gor Mahia has announced that it will do away with most of the official positions within its management when the club holds its long overdue elections in August.
This is among the decisions that the club arrived at during a virtual Executive Committee meeting held on Tuesday.
Presently, Gor Mahia’s has a bloated management which the club now intends to whittle down.
As per Gor Mahia’s constitution, the posts which will be contested for during the election are the Chairmanship, Secretary General (who will also act as club CEO), Treasurer and Organising Secretary.
This means that club CEO post, currently held by veteran administrator Lordvick Aduda, will be scrapped after the August elections.
TO BE SCRAPPED
Other posts which will no longer exist are Senior Vice Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Deputy Secretary General, Assistant Deputy Secretary General, Assistant Organising Secretary and Assistant Treasurer.
Rachier, who took over from his predecessor Erastus Okul in 2009, is expected to defend his seat with other candidates also expected to contest.
Kisumu-based engineer and the club’s Second Vice Chairman George Ong’udi, who a section of fans have been fronting for the top seat, recently told Nairobi News that he has not made up his mind whether or not to run for the post.
During Tuesday’s virtual meeting, the club urged its fans to register as members in their numbers so as to participate in the exercise.
Gor Mahia last held its elections in December 2016 at Kasarani gymnasium where Rachier won by 579 votes against his closest challenger Chrispine Omondi who got a paltry 157 votes. The term of the current office bearers ended in 2018.
A good number , if not all contributors on this wall have since time immemorial decried the bloated EC of Gor Mahia , this has now been taken care of by the new constitutional architecture and so this is a good thing , meaning its one complaint sorted .
Secondly , many on this blog have decried the fact that this office has overstayed their time in office and now that elections have been called , now the new complaint is that the “elections are being rushed ” , this kind of reasoning surely requires some sort of research especially about how someone can want something and not want the same thing all at the same time .
Thirdly , I have seen praises on this wall of Afc’s Leopards leadership doing a good job , this has only been posible courtesy of the right and visionary leadership being in place and courtesy of their elections hence it makes little sense or no sense at all to opine that Gor doesnt need elections and that all that is needed is “to chart a way forward ” , so who is supposed to “chart this way forward “? , is it this same bloated office that will continue staying in office if no elections are held ? , the same way Nick Mwendwa is staying in office .
Lastly , I am not a member of Augmentin , but I understand and support their effort and also appreciate the fact that their coming into existence was a consequence of a leadership deficit and their brief was clear and the players who were their target have nothing but appreciation for these good men and women rising to the occasion when they had the option of eloquently and obsessively complaining , lamenting and wailing on social media while doing nothing like our “Experts ” .
There are 3parts to this engine that is Gor Mahia I.e the Management , the Fanbase and the Playing/technical unit , the engine cannot function if one part /any part is missing , the Playing unit is a consequence of the Management , while the management is a consequence of the Fanbase and like they say , choices or the lack of one , have consequence
Rachier found an executive committee of 6 when he became Gor Mahia chairman. In his wisdom he expanded it to eleven. When the experiment failed he has now whittled it down to 4.
Despite lucrative Tuzo and Sportpesa sponsorships Gor Mahia during Ador’s long tenure has only managed to win a single local title per year no league and Cup/Shield double, no regional and no continental title.
With Ambrose Rachier continuing as chairman will anything change or is it just a case of different forests same monkey.
We need a goalkeeper, a striker to make it to the group stages of CAF and further. Are Muguna and Onyango staying?
Football is about winning titles. Gor Mahia has excelled regionally and continentally before Rachier. Drawing comparisons with AFC or wishing that AFC does well so that Gor Mahia can be challenged locally is punching below K’galo’s weight. When will we ever match TP Mazembe, Esperance, Zamalek as we once did if AFC is our new bench mark.
Rachier has reduced the number of paying members from about 2000 in 2011 to a mere 400 now. Half of the 400 are his friends and relatives. And since elections are being held with a months notice, he is all but assured to win. He wants to cling to power by all means. I now understand why people call him Mugabe.
With Rachier in charge, expect a continuation of haphazard travel arrengments, player strikes, player departures to Tanzania and Zambia and so forth
Rachier should do the honorary thing by resigning. Let new leaders also take our mighty club to the next level,16 years at the helm is too much, what change can he brings now that he could not bring during the 16 years
Election has been declared. Why are you making noise yet the chairmanship is also up for grab. Those who wish to vie, do so, wacheni paranganga that’s not healthy for the team. Use your ballot to remove Rachier, period. Those who are are politicking are non members who when it comes to registration or helping the club they are by standers yet they are quick at criticizing the office. Stop making empty noise, make noise with your ballot by registering as a member. Degree is a must have qualification
@George Otieno , I also wonder , surely if you want Rachier out , there are avenues for doing that and if you dont register to vote , then how do you achieve that ? , or who is supposed to do that on your behalf while you wail and scream behind your keyboard ? , Secondly I have expected for several months that those who wish to vie against Rachier to be known to us and should have by now through convincing people of their capacity , to have come out all those months ago and even inspired and mobilised people to be eligible voters , but to date I know of non and so , assuming Rachier goes , do we replace him with a vacuum ?
Adult reasoning dictates that you dont stop at telling somebody to go , but going further and proposing who or what we replace him with .
Personally , Rachier doesnt achieve 100% of my aspirations , infact I give him 40% all factors considered , but i need someone who can convince me that he can do better than that , but again the question that just won’t go away is that who do I vote for apart for apart from him , if the “opponents decide to be invisible ” ?
Lastly , my reason for rooting for a strong Afc is much deeper and contextual for reasons that anybody who understands the dynamics of football would need an average mind to understand , but I have always believed it to be common sense that a strong local league is a big determinant at the continental stage , one would hate to imagine e.g a Strong Simba SC with a weak Yanga , or a Strong Orlando Pirates with a weak Kaizer Chiefs , or a strong Zemalek with a weak El Ahli , the effect of a league competition being a foregone conclusion has had its effect on the German league where Bayern have no discernible competion , French league with PSG or Series A with Juventus , contrast this with the English Premier league and how competitive it is , with upto six teams capable of winning it .
Read somewhere that Nyangi is crying about some degree requirement , well that is what the club constitution demands , a constitution that was deliberated and passed in her presense , unless , like her good friend Sonko , she passed it without reading it , but all is not lost for her , their are a lot of Ajua or Draft clubs in Nairobi that need officials and the beauty of it is that they dont require a degree .
