Gor Mahia transfer news May 9

Gor Mahia coach Ze Maria is looking to bolster his squad during the mid year transfer season which begins in June.

An official speaking on anonymity has told Supersport that the club is interested in pursuing Harambee stars players Paul Were and Eric Johana respectively.

We are looking to sign an offensive midfielder, striker, right back who can understudy Niziyimana. We have set our sights on Eric Johana and Paul Were who coach Ze Maria believes are good players who can make a good impact. The coach is currently assessing them and he will give us the final word on who to sign,” the source told supersport.com.

Paul Were Ooko who mostly operates as a right winger was recently with a Greek side but is set to be released after his team was relegated. Eric Johana is currently tied to Mathare United. Were had previously been associated with the club in January only for the opportunity in Greece to supersede.

The source also told Supersport that the return of Meddie Kagere in June has been ruled out because Gor Mahia has already reached its current quota of foreigners and all of them are still under contract.

Rwandese defender Abouba Sibomana whose place in the starting line-up is now threatened by upstart Eric Marcelo Ouma, has vowed to stay at the club and fight to regaion his place in the starting line-up.

“Eric is a very good player and I am happy that he is performing well. Such competition is very good for me because it keeps me on my toes. It ensures that I give 100%, both in training and games, because if I don’t perform then I risk losing my place in the team.” Sibomana told Sokka, a Rwandese site.

In addition to Kagere, the club has also quashed rumours that they would be seeking to bring back Timothy Otieno from his loan spell at Posta Rangers.

“I am not aware of such an arrangement, we have not discussed about it as the management and it’s not something we are planning to do” , sad Ronald Ngala to futaa.com

Gor Mahia’s attack has at times appeared unable to score goals when Tuyisenge is unavailable, while the Rwandese striker has had to spend a lot of time on the treatment table.

  • Why get an understudy for Nzigiyimana yet we already have Luke Ochieng who is a very solid, technically-gifted and experienced rightback?

    • @Mac’ Muga, your observation of Luke is sport on. Only that I think the coach is saying that going by Nzigiyimana’s style of runs and plays especially when he brings in those crosses that particular player would have to be with him. As we may have noticed his crosses have not been as effective in the box especially when it comes to height which I think is also factor informing their action. This is just an observation.

currently I think we only need to bolster our mid and attack and we are good to go.

Hope Ouma’s agent does not rush him to pro level just for the love of money.

  • I agree with the report on supersport. There is no need of dropping any foreign player this June so as to sign another. Those players have running contracts so they will have to be paid heavily if they are laid off. The only alternative is to sell but unfortunately we havent heard of any clubs, locally or internationally, that are interested in those players. So it looks like we are stuck with them untill their contracts run out naturally. Bring in Were and Johanna this June….we retain the league…then do the so called world class signings in Jan 2017 for the champions league.

The grapevine has that Karim may be on his way out for trials in Belgium, probably that is why the club is looking for an understudy. Secondly GOR EC are known for their discreet ways of doing things. I will not be suprised if Kagere finds his way back into the club. But so far so good. The players are beginning to adopt to Ze Maria’s style, I see Blackberry and Tuyisenge combining well, may a player in each department will do, a defender, a midfielder and a striker.

  • Maybe in the eyes of the TB Luke is not able to manage the right wing as well as Nzigimana. By using the word ‘understudy’ the speaker may have ment that they want to get someone who can learn to play like him so that there is a ready replacement incase we loose him to injury or departure.

    • The Coach should consider playing Luke as a holding midfielder because he posses the qualities in that position. Please don’t let such talent rust in bench. @ Marto note that Nizigiyamana crosses are perfect only that we have short strikers.

  • l think Johanna is overrated as a player. Paul Were offers more in terms of attack than him . ln midfield l doubt if he can bench Gatusso/ Aucho when they are in form. We only lack one tall striker who can assist Ja Usenge and is ruthless infront of goal and can convert crosses from Nizigiyamana or Sibomana.

@Tosh …now that you are suggesting that we don’t waste Luke’s talent and put him in midfield, who in your opinion should make way for him?considering also that you’ve said Johanna cannot dislodge Gattuso/Aucho…

The rotation by the coach is working well, I am sure the coach will soon give him a chance to prove his worth.

  • I do diagree with the posting on Luke Ochieng. If the coach has assessed him and found out that he us not the quality of the player that can add value to the team, let it be so and accept the coach decision.

Bloggers give the coach time to fill where there are deficiencies that giving proposals which can’t help the club anyway.

  • I urge our scouts to look at Baron Oketch. This man from w.stima has great qualities as technical player.good speed, ball control, dribbling and an eye on goal.I saw him last season orchestrate the dismantling of several teams including AFC and again this season is working hard technically.Mathare defenders couldn’t handle him.

  • Let the coach do his work without any undue pressures of signing players. Some of the names being highlighted will not see light of the day in terms of technical football. The coach knows the type of players he is scouting for both locally and regionally.

Mac Muga, we can’t allow you or anyone to say just anything. Be ready to be criticized and corrected. Let’s give the coach some space to manage the team.
