Gor Mahia are said to have signed Ugandan midfield ace Shafiq Batambuze.
“The deal is done. We have handed him a two-year deal,” Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda told goal.com
The much traveled Batambuze has played for Sofapaka, Tusker, Muhoroni Youth and Western Stima in the KPL. In Tanzania, he played for Simba and Singida United.
Some fans have expressed reservations over the player saying that he was rejected by Simba and ended up at lowly Singida United. The midfielder has also played for the Uganda Cranes and was at the 2017 Africa Nations cup.
Interestingly, two weeks ago, club secretary general Ben Omondi had dismissed the signing of Batambuze stating that it was the work of cartels at the club.
Kerr wants some players axed
Meanwhile coach Dylan Kerr has submitted a list of players he thinks should be axed from the team. But the club officials are baulking.
‘’We are in talks with the coach in regard to some of the names he proposed for axing since we feel some of them are still too good to leave at this point. We shall give details once done with the talks,” said Ngala to Citizen sports.
Kerr wanted the players axed to make way for other signings. Ngala noted that the club will not be going for any big signings due to the its financial situation.
New Season to start on December 8
The Kenya premier league will be harmonizing with the world football calendar. In that vein, the next season will be named the 2018-2019 season and will start on December 8. Gor Mahia will open their campaign against Bandari at Mbaraki stadium.
Kerr expects a stronger challenge from other teams this time.
“It is not going to be a walk in the park for us. My players should know that it is going to be harder than ever, and so we have to be stronger, more disciplined, focused and professional on how we live on and off the field. said Kerr.
He also wants fans to tone down their expectations.

Dear Bloggers…Yes it is the prerogative of the Head Coach to sign players in normal practice. GM though is unique and therefore things are Never that clear nor easy. Me i just brought two players i believe GM needed in Kenneth Muguna and Shaffiq Batambuze since i knew if i dilli-dallied mediocre replacements would be brought in by profiteers. On that point let it be known that I Am rooting for Sir Kerr to have his wish on signing the strikers he wishes. Also on releasing Guikan and Mustafa Francis i am of no objection since if anything i can bring serious West African continental heavyweights in that position but i wont indulge for EC already told me there is no big money signing they are willing to make due to our financial situation. So i will support the Coach to have his say in terms of those he wants released and those he wants signed. Am with him on that point though it is important to note he is touching on some EC favorites hence the resistance…If their (Coach and EC) stalemate persists i shall step in and offer a solution as I always do on GM signings…Thank you all for your time
@Jasego, I do agree with you on Kerr on the technical bench matters including acquisition of new players and releasing those that do not meet the club threshold. For the club to conquer Afica, we have to be serious with the players that are brought in to the team but not signing mediocre players.
Officials like Ngala, Aduda, Ben Omondi and Nyangi knows nothing about football but only fleecing the club.
As much as heavy weights are necessary to help us conquer Africa, the question is; where is the money. One of the reasons for bringing in sportpesa was to help us sign quality players but it’s like Gor has no sponsor at all.
Mustafa should be retained but Guikan should be released for bringing in Batambuze my take is noo…… tb could have done better.

You see no matter who is signed some bloggers will always opine otherwise. Please let us learn to appreciate efforts made to sign good players as i assure you it’s the hardest thing to do in GM with our ever conflicting and competing club interests. On the same transfers note is that enquiries have been sent by Gor Mahia to Sofapaka and Mathare United on the availability of Dennis “N’nzonzi” Odhiambo our new Harambee Stars midfield Kingpin and Cliff Nyakeya our one time Gor Mahia Youth Prodigy with a view to opening disussions on their possible signing…

Breaking: Gor Mahia signs former KPL MVP
Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia have completed the signing of midfielder Kenneth Muguna who returns to the club on a Bosman.
The 2016 Kenyan Premier League MVP left Gor Mahia for Albanian side, FK Tirana early this year but terminated his contract with the club six months later.
He has been in the country since June and was linked with a move to two Ethiopian sides.
Three years
He has however opted to rejoin Gor Mahia on a three-year deal as confirmed by Gor CEO Lordvick Aduda.
“It’s done and dusted. We had agreed on everything and what remains is for him to sign his three-year contract. He will do today at 3PM,” Aduda said.
“Muguna is a quality player and having him back is a boost for the team because as you know we will be taking part in CAF Champions League and as such we need to have a very strong team,” he added.
He becomes Gor’s second signing of the window after Ugandan defender Shafik Batambuze who joined Gor on Tuesday 16th October on a two-year deal.
Signing of player is usually a dicey piece of work. There is always some gamble with it. How many of us on this wall were against Kagere rejoining Gor? Mara he was aged, mara there were no offers for him from elsewhere hence he wasn’t that good etc etc. Even BB and Joash had some flak thrown their way. For me I will support whoever is brought in so long as they can deliver. As much as the coach has a final say , the fans and even EC have an input. I remember George Bwana getting us Aucho and Baba Kizito , both who delivered
Who are these players with relatives in the EC. These are the players you will never hear protesting about anything. So long as they get bus-fare all is well. These players will not know what competition is, they in return will always give lacklustre intput, knowing that “uncle Ngala” will always be around to protect them.
Such stance by EC will bring disharmony in the playing unit. Why should I do my best if I know so and so are playing simply coz they have godfathers.
Let the coach do his job. His word should be final. Will Ngala be the one to answer when his “pets” under-perform or will it be Kerr?
In Gor the fans are the gem that fuels the players, bring them we hype them. God bless Gor
