Gor Mahia travel to Cameroon Friday

Gor Mahia will leave for Limbe, Cameroon on Friday for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Confederation Cup playoff second led against New Stars de Douala of Cameroon.

They leave at 8.05am, before connecting to the coastal town of Limbe. The match is set for Omnisports stadium in Limbe on Sunday at 5pm.

They will be defending a slim 2-1 lead and are further disadvantaged by having conceded an away goal.

“In West Africa anything can happen. We had a meeting with my players and I think mentally and physically we are strong enough,” said coach Oktay to the Nation

They will be missing Harun Shakava and Joash Onyango who were suspended by CAF as well as Humphrey Mieno who has joined St George of Ethiopia. Also doubtful is Kenneth Muguna who walked out of the team on Wednesday when he found out that he was not in the starting line-up.

And with Oliech Guikan and Kipkirui also ineligible, Gor Mahia will rely on Tuyisenge, Mustafa and Sekisambu for goals.

Oktay blames Poor pre-season and instability

Hassan Oktay says lack of proper pre-season preparations is costing the club in terms of performance. According to Oktay, the club was rudderless once the 2018 season ended.

‘’The kind of training they had last season did not help the players. It didn’t help them develop or add anything for the new season,’’ Oktay said to Citizen Sports.

In addition, there is lack of stability in the playing unit. Gor Mahia players are always linked to other African teams. Francis Kahata, Jacque Tuyisenge, Wellington Ochieng, Humphrey Mieno among others have all been linked with moves abroad.

Additional reporting from the Nation

Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay is unhappy with Ivorian striker Ephrem Guikan’s attitude in their 4-1 triumph over Mount Kenya United at Kasarani stadium on Wednesday.

Oktay pulled off the misfiring Guikan for the legendary Dennis Oliech after 42 minutes, a change that left the Ivorian furiously charging back to the dressing room as fans jeered at him. This is the second time this season the 24-year-old forward is pulling this stunt following his substitution.

“It’s the first time I am seeing this from Guikan but I can manage, this is not a problem for me, I will need to talk to him,” the Turkish-Cypriot trainer said.

“He needs to work hard and he knows that,” Oktay said. “One of my philosophy I try to give this football team is that they need to work hard to achieve something.”

Guikan, who had quit the Kenyan champions in November before making a U-turn following the resignation of coach Dylan Kerr, took to his Facebook page to apologize.

“I come with this message, excuse me for my behavior tonight during the match. I admit to having bad reactions. I apologize to all the fans of Gor Mahia to all the team and to the coaching staff, I am really sorry (sic),” he posted.

Guikan had fallen out with Kerr hence the decision to not renew his contract at Gor Mahia late last year.

Discipline as a player is paramount regardless of whether you are a star player or not.

Guikan and Muguna haven’t proven much so far this season…let them show us they can perform on the field before they start pulling such stunts !!

This Oktay guy has become an expert at excuses so early in the season. The other day it was fatigue(so dumb an excuse after just ten games). Today it is a poor pre-season. Well, Mr. Sir, all teams had a poor pre-season and in fact some of the teams currently ahead of you like Mathare United had worse pre-seasons than us. So just sort out the infighting within the playing unit, the growing indiscipline in your squad and kindly field players on merit and you will win the title. Otherwise, your stay won’t be long no matter the excuses. Kogalo fans are some of the most demanding. Consider yourself served, Sir Oktay!!!!

And why can’t we task trusted hands of zico to take charge of the affairs in Cameroon ? Oktay is an experiment that is bound to fail….he is not champions pedigree and should we loose in doula, he better NOT board the same plane back to Kenya! Warning….let him go back to horning his skills with 5th division amateur teams.

@jakoyo, you are always boring us with Zico stories. Why can’t you recommend him to AFC Leopards?

So Jakoyo it suffices to assume you will be hoping New Stars beat us so you can start your violent revolution threat above to stop Oktay gaining entry back into the country. Jakoyo understand that you are neither the Director of Immigration or Head of Kenya Airports Authority to issue such threats. Finally we plan to land back from Cameroon to songs and dance from our ever K”Ogalo faithful and diehard supporters having qualified to CCC group stage. #wangoremawahero

It is a demonstration of wisdom when discontent and reservations are expressed with fact, tact and guile without resorting to insult and intimidation. Jakoyo my seasoned ally, I wish you could take time and read Musymo’s comment! What do we stand to gain from comments that are always inflammatory, alarmist and intimidatory statements? Perhaps some of us could do with some rebranding.

Miguna’s rather unfortunate reaction is something that the technical bench and EC is very much aware of and will surely address. No one in a position of responsibility would fail to hem in such behaviour because they are aware of its potentially detrimental effects. As Ja Thur gi Ji says, this is a group of mature and intelligent friends therefore may God give us the grace of avoiding insults and aggressive demeaning language towards our players, Ja’Asego and even the likes of me, Barefoot Bandit.

According to goal.com,muguna says that he can be sitting on the bench on the basis of his potential compared to other players but not because someone who is not in the coaching staff influence the selection. For those who are followers of Gor mahia fc can agree with me that when muguna joined Gor mahia fc for the first time, even kahata was in Gor mahia fc and muguna relegated him to the bench and he was the master passer in the league. So we should not condemn muguna but advice the coach to field the players at his disposal on merit. If he can’t do that, then he’s not different from the local coaches that we’ve been avoiding for the last 8yrs because of being influenced by external forces. Players normally work hard in training to break into the first eleven and I believe that muguna is trying to do that but there are other people who tend to influence the coach on team selection. Remember also that the afcon is also around the corner and every player would want to impress the national team coaches. Let the coach be independent and select players on merit.

Many of this players need proper induction to understand that they are employees of their clubs and they have a contractual duty to live in line with their club ethos. As fans some emotional attachment to some players occasionally blindfold some us into involving iurselves in matters that are purely between the employer and employee. Indiscipline becoming the result of such intervention. GM EC must not relent in dealing with disciplinary matters in the organization. This must not only be reserved for players but also seen to be done at all levels of the organization including EC. Most of you on this platform are either employees or employers and imagine waking up one morning to news that you are fined 1milluon KES or banned from doing business for some period because of the omissions and /or commissions of your employees. You can only find such occurrences normal and treat them casually if you are an observer. BUT IF YOU ARE AN INVESTOR YOU WILL REALIZE THAT THE RICH ALSO CRY.

Our beloved GM lost it’s way immediately after winning the league against Afc unbeaten with 6 games to go last season. A very senior player with influence over the rest and working with Judith Nyangi and SG Ben Omondi started a very negative pay up or we down tools mantra coupled with skipping training that made us lose some remaining matches towards seasons end. We battled the said officials during the short off-season whereby they tried blocking signings and every other plan we had. Long and short of it is attitude has been bad in GM lately not one of Champions. We still have a very good squad actually one whose pedigree is unmatched but the uncertainty sorrounding players future must be put to rest. The incessant squabbling and enmity amongst competing players also is not good for team unity. We are facing big challenges but trying to overcome. First is New Stars hurdle that i pray we win and qualify for CCC group stage as that will be good for club and country heading into Afcon in June. As i always say GM will triumph and surpass all challenges we currently face.

@Jasego, you have always been right in your posting. There are several imbeciles that are out to spoil your good name brother. Please ignore them as the snoring of frogs can not stop the cow from drinking water. Remain resolute in telling the truth and I am with you brother no matter the circumstances. We need to meet and discuss the proposal I had posted sometimes back.

I have not been regular with my postings due to lots of negative energy being posted by bloggers that neither know nor understand football.

Thanks brother and ofcourse we should meet asap after this return leg tie in Cameroun. I appreciate the support as lately a trend to abuse and oppose genuine GM fans and officials has hit a crescendo in this wall. They have now gone over the wall and don’t even bother camouflaging their ill intentions towards GM anymore but make it clear they would wish we lose and the club disintergrates. That to their dismay though will never happen. I will reach out when back from Limbe

the problem with Gor is that the new coaches just want to ride on the glory of the past coaches and they do not want to change the winning team – which has now become ordinary. We need a courageous coach who can identify talent. We are currently paper tigers. Big name.
We must also be aware that the players are now exploiting Gor. They come, make a name and move on. something we can avoid. but what we can avoid is players who come to Gor to be visible as they pursuing options outside of Gor ie to secure foreign contracts. and you can count them. Gor is Players Display shelve. This is where you can begin to smell something between their agents / officials and the players who are coming back to Gor even after their departure cost the club. JASEGO come clean. They do not add value but want Gor Brand to bargain better contracts with other clubs.

    • Players, you, I, infact the whole world knows that the players’ salaries are guaranteed by SP sponsorship and is paid to EC on time if not in advance. Why/where does Mugabe/EC divert salaries every month, only paying part after false promises/go slows?

@midigocollins, Oliech is a senior and very experienced player. He knows very well what he means and good for the team. He might even one day become Gor Mahia coach. Muguna needs to work hard to convince the technical bench.

I don’t think so, Oliech just came the other day. I also kindly request fellow Gor fans to avoid speeding rumors without a fact, this can be very dangerous. If Muguna have any issue, he must follow the right channel.
