Gor Mahia opened their 2018 Sportpesa Supercup campaign on a solid note, dismissing Zanzibari side Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi 3-0

Gor Mahia FC began their Super Cup title defence with a 3-0 victory over Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) SC at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium on Sunday.
Goals from George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, Godfrey Walusimbi and Meddie Kagere lifted the home side to a comfortable over the Zanzibar outfit.
The champions will play fellow Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Kakamega Homeboyz who stunned Tanzanian giants Yanga SC 3-1 earlier at the same venue.
Odhiambo was in fine form, terrorizing the visiting defence and won a penalty in the 20th minute but striker Ephrem Guikan failed to put it away as his tame effort was pushed out by the goalkeeper.
The winger then took matters into his own hands, combining well with Francis Kahata in the 29th minute to fire home the opener.
Walusimbi doubled his side’s lead six minutes later with low left-footed strike from outside the box after Cercidy Okeyo had set him up.
JKU could do little to slow down Dylan Kerr charges as they were starved of possession thus barely even tested K’Ogalo custodian Shaban Odoji.
The Kenyan champions slowed down proceedings in the second period, retaining possession as they looked to see off the win.
Both sides brought in substitutes with Dylan Kerr profiting as Meddie Kagere added to the tally heading in the 82nd minute from a cross to kill off any hopes JKU had of salvaging anything from the game.

Congrats team. However Shakava should avoid unnecessary fouls around the 18 yards that can be dangerous towards our goal. Guikan also needs to compose himself when taking penalties.
Good performance however this guy Guikan lacks teamwork. He was so selfish and wanted to score alone,maybe that’s what he was told by Kerr. I wonder why George and Kahata couldn’t be signed by Hull coz they are top notch players.

Truth be told, that JKU team can’t even match the likes of Shabana and Thur Gem. Smaller physical build, inability to run 90 minutes, lack of creativity, they couldn’t manage a physical game, pre-informed opinion that Gor is unbeatable…so those boys played for formality. I couldn’t see any assertiveness in their work rate. Gor played until later in second half they started madoido and maringo ndogondogo. JKU had only 1 shot on target.
We should have eliminated Yanga on our way to the semis but anyway let KKhomeboyz take the pride.
Admin, Gor will play the winner between Ingwe and Singida game. This is an effort to have Gor versus Simba in the finals which is a potential crowd puller.

Three quality goals. Perhaps the team should have donned black arm bands to show last respect to Peter’s rested family. However I want to believe it is the reason for the very muted celebrations by all the three goal scorers.
Good work boys. A few lessons picked from the game. 1. The stamina levels in the team is down. Just compare Gor Mania playing Sony Sugar in Gotv in 2015 for 120 minutes to the current team in all competitions after 60 minutes. Thanks to EC at least they are aware and are addressing the matter. 2. This tournament aims to show talent and to strengthen competitive football in the region. The exposure Gor needs at the moment is serious opposition where you learn one or two tricks. I am not sure Gor was too good for JKU or JKU was too weak for Gor. Tanzanian teams seem to hold this tournament with contempt as demonstrated by Yanga. 3. Mindset of players is as important as the game itself. If you give our noisy neighbours-ingwe a chance to play a weak team, they will not be shy in pumping goals -as many as 11 as they once did. JKU was a team to send back home with six to seven goals the way Zesco did it to eliminate the in CAF completions. Yes, many goals intimidate your neighbours and the next opponents
4. Mieno playing Hull city in England scored a goal outside 20 yards. Yesterday Walusimbi scored in a similar distance, the only one I have seem in Gor in the recent years The lesson is when playing tough teams defensively,the luxury of titki taka in the box may not be available. The question is who is our Nyangi Odembo ( artillery) in this squad? Just watch Nigerian, Zambian and ABSA leagues to appreciate the for diversity in the team. 5 Finally, no comment on Guikan.

Bearing in mind that Jku consisted the bulk of the Zanzibari cecafa finalists that gave Harambee stars a run for their money , I admit that I was thouroughly impressed and entertained , the football was flowing , the ball was on the ground and the players movements on and off the ball was spot on , now those are the positives I picked from the game .
Now the negatives were minimal but existed nevertheless, and one way of noting that is to take into account the gap between Kagere’s and Guikan’s performances , it was huge , ukweli isemwe , someone once pointed on this wall the similarities between Guikan and Adebayor , that of needing ten open chances to score one and I am in complete agreement with that comparison , the guy is simply erratic , I may be wrong on this and I hope I am since I ve been wrong b4 esp on Joash Onyango and like witnessed yesterday on Cercidy Okeyo, people who have requested patience with Guikan have pointed out some injury/ies that his problem is mental and lack of situational awareness , attributes that are a must in an area of the pitch that decisions have to be made in micro seconds.

To those who say we should give Guikan more time , what if I may ask is the basis of that opinion, examples have been floated of Olunga”s early
early days at kogalo , an example I totally disagree with , Olunga was a young boy , with latent potential, raw and rough on the edges and a rookie on the big stage , in him , the call to give him more time was reasonable , on the contrary , for a club to cross borders and go all the way to Cote d voire and spend expensively to acquire a player, what is expected is a finished product , somebody who is no stranger to the big stage and thus would hit the ground running, but the mere fact that midway in the season we are still having this conversation is testomony to the fact that
he is not up to speed and a confirmation that he is anything but ordinary , and ordinary we have in abundance within our borders , an expatriate must by all accounts give as what we cant get locally , otherwise it becomes a situation whereby our foriegn quota is unnecessarily wasted .
I would understand were somebody to say we give Boniface Omondi , Ondiek , Momanyi , Lokuwum , Philmon or Lawrence Juma more time but not Walusimbi , Nzigimana, Kagere or Guikan .
It beats logic to spend so much for a foriegn player who ends up warming the bench , for whatever reason and from what I have witnessed so far , I now understand y Guikan is constantly on the bench .
In saying this , am giving priority to the ambitions of the club rather than showing affection and politeness to individuals .
That striking position must be sorted , the sooner , the better , what we r facing ahead doesnt allow as the luxury of telemundos

1. A striker is signed to score goals and that is the yardstick we use to measure their performance.
2. Guikan has scored more goals than Tuyisenge in the KPL and is tied with Kagere. He has played less than half the minutes Tuyisenge has played.
This then raises the question:
Who between him and Tuyisenge should warm the bench more?
Simba coach wouldn’t like his team playing Gor. He confesses that Gor has very high quality players and admires the players Kerr has
Guikan is fine,i say this not because of personal attachment but having followed him and stayed with him in Poland during his professional stint there.That guy is a goal rattler per excellence.Having been from a ong injury lay off slowed him down but alas at his struggling form he is equal on goals with Kagere snd has outscored runner Tuyisenge.Let us wait and see who will emerge top scorer for GM this season and i bet it will be none other than Messr Ephraim.He loses opportunities for he knows how to attack the box and is constantly a threat to any defence marking him.Compare that to some who drift from the 18 yard to go run hard and increase work rate while leaving the striking role without a striker then you will slowly appreciate Guikan’s qualities and instincts.Am on his neck to settle and scoregoals galore like i know he can and will very soon
How many goals each have Kagere, Tuyisenge and Guikan scored for Kogalo this season? I think they are almost at par. Why are we too harsh on Guikan?
Is Yanga understudying us, did they bring a weaker team? Weare playing them on 18th next month and they are so relaxed. What are they doing, that we dont know? Why involve Gor in this ‘Kutangatanga” tournaments? We might run ou of steam. Yanga one of our opponents are tactically resting and focused on the job to be done next month. Jasego tafakari hayo.
Yanga has no money and are suffering with star player boycotts over unpaid allowances.Their form has dipped and waned recently so worry not we will deal with them both Perpendicularly & Ruthlessly come 18th July bro Jamriambo…

Harambee stars a shortwhile ago has received a thorough hiding by India going down 3-0 , Now are these the kind of friendlies that this mistake called Nick Mwenda expect a serious and busy club like kogalo to release its players for , just like Tottenham see it fit to withdraw Wanyama , so did we and I was irritated to hear Zapapa of Afc castigating and berating kogalo for being unpatriotic , unpatrioticness is releasing players the caliber of which are thrashed by pepper eating turbaned merchants known more for cricket and hockey .
Very soon we shall be having at least 9 of the 1st eleven from kogalo , from theiron Harambee stars will be taken note of , but before then , we have a club to build , trophies to win and Everton to play NOT India .

Someone please educate me, if we recruit in June, shall be able to use such players in the caf fixtures this year? Do the rules allow that?
Yes they do, as long as your quota of 28 players registered for CAF are not exhausted or some have transferred to other clubs.
Or as long as the ones you are bringing on board are not cup-tied due to having ever played for another team during a CAF champions league league tie!
So bring on the players ‘coz Gor must be, at worse, in the quarter finals of CCC.
Picking up from @Francis that at worst we must be in the quarters , it is my opinion that based on what I forsee , we are already
in the quarters taking for granted that we will give Yanga a nice hiding both home and away plus another hiding for Rayon Sports at home .
Having said that , I have a strong feeling that we are very capable of going all the way to the finals and even taking it but to do this, we have to proove to ourselves that belief in our capabilities is enough to see as through and what a better way to gain this by breaking this North African myth a clobbering USM Alger in their home tough , we went toe to toe with them in Nairobi and our home and away matches against Espearance prooved that the gap between as and the North is very slim if at all .
A victory against USM will give as a huge phsychological boost and the momentum therein will be enough to expel any fear factor we may have of any entity .
Dirty tricks though will be in store for as and for that too , we have to be prepared .
This may just be the season we announce our comeback amongst the elite of African football and with all the attendant benefits to go with it .
The transfer window is already open , our recruitment must solely based on the best in Africa and a good reinforcement in the critical areas will definitely see as overcome .
My gut feeling is that the spirits of 79 and 87 are knocking on our doors , all we have to do is open .
What criteria was used for AFC leopards/Singida to play today then the winner meets Gor on Thursday?

@Danico, with CECAFA I was just thinking about recruitment and Gor has said they will recruit a maximum of three. Maybe justified on account of wage bill but what do you guys think we loan out the likes of Okiro, Asudi, Lokuwam and release the very feeeew passengers(maybe just 1. Sorry for using the word passenger as it offends a few of us bloggers). Added to that foreign slot that Nzigiyimana may not use this season that brings to 5. Four local and one foreign. The foreign spot I pray goes to Mensah or Makame or another workaholic box to box midfielder instead of the winger from Uganda. We already have enough manpower on the wings as it is. The four local slots to go to quality local players and I have heard of Ovella being trailed(though not sure if he is better than Boniface Omondi or Samuel Onyango), some bloggers have mentioned Shami Kibwana and Mukangula from Thika and possible targets like Dunco and Marvin from Ingwe plus a ruthless central defender. Our squad is the best I have seen in a long time but with this glut of fixtures and their importance quality reinforcement is a priority. Then they must be rotation to guarantee most of them playtime. Just my opinion, I am not applying to be Gor Mahia coach!!!
@Musymo, As much as we don’t thnk our squad is good just ask the Simba coach. He is so impressed and actually admires Kerr with the quality he has.
