Gor Mahia U20 floor Sofapaka in 3rd place playoff

Thiongo scored one and set up another

The December edition of KPL U20 came to an end on Sunday. Gor Mahia beat Sofapaka 3-1 to finish in 3rd place while Mathare United retained the crown by beating AFC U20.

The opening goal was scored in the 35th minute by Hillary Ojwang who scored from the spot after Sofapaka player handled the ball in the penalty box. The goal awakened Sofapaka. Two minutes later they too scored from the penalty spot following a handball. And three minutes later, a well taken effort was cleared off the line by Steve Otieno.

Nahashon Thiongo ran unchallenged into the Sofapaka goal area to score the second goal in the 80th minute. With four minutes left, Thiongo was on the rampage again. This time his shot hit the upright and Reagan Odede picked up the resulting loose ball to score.

As third place finishers, Gor Mahia colled Ksh 200,000 in prize money.

  • The best achievement in 2016 was a bronze medal from the U-20 team. Doesn’t befit a team of Kogallo’s calibre.
Everybody is silent about 2017 preparations. Hey fanatics, anything special?
