Gor Mahia U20 through to quarter-finals

Gor Mahia’s hopes of winning the 2016 KPL U20 tournament are still alive. On Wednesday they beat their Sofapaka counterparts 1-0. The all important goal was scored by Amos Nondi in the 37th minute. Gor Mahia thus topped the group despite their poor start where they lost 0-2 to AFC Leopards. Gor Mahia will meet Chemelil Sugar U20 in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile Gor Mahia’s defender Eric Ouma is among the players who has been named by CAF as ineligible for the Africa U20 tournament. A CAF circular mandated that only players born after January 1997 could play. Kenya fielded a number of players born in 1996 and have thus been disqualified.

The ineligible players are :

Erick Ouma Otieno, born on 27/9/1996;

Nicholas Kipkirui, born on 31/5/1996;

Boniface Muchiri, born on 23/8/1996;

Eugene Moses Mukangula, born on 22/6/1996;

Theodore Kibet Kilele, born on 25/9/1996

Message from Mannaseh Otieno regarding the U20 team

This is for your information, the Youth Team was allocated Ksh 375,000 as disbursed by the KPL to cater for the KPL U-20 tournament expenses. Our budget for this tournament amounted to Ksh 283,600, leaving us with a balance of Ksh 91,400 that will finance our league obligations once the KPL U-20 tournament comes to an end. Out of the 283,600, Ksh 60,000 was earmarked for the purchase and printing of one set of kit because the club could only afford to give the juniors one set, yet the tournament rules required each team to have two. This left the juniors with Ksh 223,600 to spend during the two week competition. Ronald Ngala received the Ksh 60,000 directly from the club treasurer to purchase and print the kit on behalf of the Youth team, since it was an EC’s decision that the juniors purchase the kit from the tournament kitty. For those who might not know, the Youth Team’s affairs are normally handled by Ronald Ngala. I hope this clears the air on why the youth team had to spend on playing kits.

Manaseh Otieno
